I was visiting relatives in northern Wisconsin and made copies of some letters and family history sheets in the possession of my father’s sister Laura Marie Hanson [Evans] who had been corresponding with her second cousin Sigurd Klabo Mehus. Sigurd died in 1983 before I even knew of his existence, and when Laura died in 1997 the copies I had made were still filed away in a drawer, unread and very nearly forgotten, where they remained until I finally began serious and focused research in 2000. Those 20 or so pages were a treasure trove of information and formed the core of my slowly expanding base of knowledge. From his letters it is obvious that Sigurd had already done quite a bit of research. In a 1976 letter to Laura he wrote: “I have a lot on your father and your grand father, back to the 17 hundreds and Hans & my grandmother Kristine were siblings, have all the data on the brothers and sisters, but need to get a lot of my notes together. “Have you a system for this sort of thing? I have ½ a dozen different forms, there is something missing on them all.” He also wrote something in another letter in 1977 that has greatly influenced me: “Hi folks and takk forsist, yes I was sort of wondering, not for myself, but I feel so strongly on the subject, that all families should leave some record behind, so the next generation will know something of where we came from and whom we were.” Sadly, I have not been able to locate Sigurds records. All I have are the now fading copies I made in 1991. And like Sigurd, I too have struggled to come up with “a systems for this sort of thing” that will allow me to share what I have discovered. The Personal Computer, the Internet and the World Wide web have have made it much easier to find, document and share genealogical information. For example, I have posted many pictures and documents on my web page, and my entire database of information about the family has been uploaded to the rootsweb web site as part of the WorldConnect project and can be viewed by anybody in the world at the following URL: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=SHOW&db=aehanson However, I recently came to the conclusion that an old fachioned paper record was required as well. I have encounted many people with a stong interest in the family who have no access to a computer. Also, as I have been assembling and editing this document I have found that the medium is at least complimentary to, if not superior, to what is possible using a computer. And so, some 160 pages later, I am writing this introduction in the sincere hope that the information, and the format, will prove useful (or at least interesting) to some future reader. Most people probably think of genealogy as a hobby that is focused on the past. However, my research has brought me into contact with many wonderful, fascinating and helpful people. The fact that they also happen to be relatives makes them all the more special to me. The trust and generosity I have encountered has been, at times, 3 The Family of Hans Emahus Isakson overwhelming. I am deeply grateful to everybody who have shared their memories, documents and pictures with me (many of which are included in this document), but I would like to especially thank Ruth Duderos, Sharon Burke and Norman Lorentsen for all the encouragement and information they have provided over the years. None of this would have been possible without the encouragement, assistance and unhesitating support of my wife Kathleen. She has been a tireless and enthusiastic companion on many genealogical research trips made under the guise of a “vacation”, and it is thanks to her occasional nudges in the back that I am now able to share some of the information contained in this document. Hans Emahus Isakson Hans Emahus Isakson was born on the Herset farm in Nesna, Nordland, Norway on 04 Jul 1853, the forth child of Isak Johan Larsen and Maren Christiane Andersdatter. Sigurd Klabo Mehus, a grand-nephew of Hans, wrote this in a letter dated 8-2-1976: When your G.F. Hans was baptized they wrote his name Hans Emahu but when some of his children were baptized his name was listed Hans Emaus, an unusual name. Don't know where they dug it up, it might have been a man of some influence with that, so they hung it on one of the children, hoping some thing might rub off. That was the practice at that time. I have also one hung on me, didn't help-ha-ha. As a young man he reportedly spend long days working on clearing rocks and building a rock wall that stands today as a boundary marker for the nearby Handa farm. On 22 Nov 1880 he married Inger Helene Andersdatter: he was 27 and she was 23 years old. They lived on the Herset farm and, over the next 18 years, had eight children, seven of who survived to adulthood. • Ludvig Martin Hanson 11 Jan 1881 • Kristine Antonette Hanson 15 Aug 1882 • Marie Albertine Hanson 17 May 1884 • Anton Edwin Hanson 25 Apr 1886 • Olina Johanna Hanson 30 Aug 1888 • Rehardine Fredrikke Hanson 24 Jan 1892 (died 28 Nov 1892) • Rehardine F Hanson 10 May 1894 • Petra Necholena Hanson 20 Mar 1898 Information in the 1900 Norwegian census indicates that he was a tenant farmer, with land to farm for himself, plus he probably worked every day for the person owning the main farm. He also fished and worked on building

THE ANASON FAMILY IN ROGALAND COUNTY, NORWAY AND JUNEAU COUNTY, WISCONSIN BY LAWRENCE W. ONSAGER THE LEMONWEIR VALLEY PRESS Berrien Springs, Michigan and Mauston, Wisconsin 2013 ANASON FAMILY INTRODUCTION The Anason family has its roots in Rogaland County, in western Norway. Western Norway is the area which had the greatest emigration to the United States. The County of Rogaland, formerly named Stavanger, lies at Norway’s southwestern tip, with the North Sea washing its fjords, beaches and islands. The name Rogaland means “the land of the Ryger,” an old Germanic tribe. The Ryger tribe is believed to have settled there 2,000 years ago. The meaning of the tribal name is uncertain. Rogaland was called Rygiafylke in the Viking age. The earliest known members of the Anason family came from a region of Rogaland that has since become part of Vest-Agder County.

  • Bitstream – Capacity Building for Innovation
Bitstream – Capacity Building for Innovation Final Report Mikael Söderström, Umeå Universitet Ulf Hedestig, Umeå Universitet Terje Fallmyr, Universitetet i Nordland Kjell Ellingsen, Universitetet i Nordland Hallstein Hegerholm, Høgskolen i Nesna Geir-Tore Klæboe, Høgskolen i Nesna WP-14.01 ISSN:1401-4580 Department of Informatics 1 Acknowledgments The project is financed by the European Interreg Botnia Atlantica and following partners 2 Introduction The report presents the realization of and results from the Botnia Atlantica funded project BitStream – Capacity Building for Innovation. The project started March 15 2013 and ended October 31 2014. Originally the project was scheduled to end April 15 2014, but for several reasons the project applied for and was granted extension until October 31 2014. The coordinating funding receiver has been Umeå University and the other Swedish partners has been the municipalities of Sorsele and Storuman. In Norway the partners has been Nesna University College, University of Nordland, the municipal of Bodø and the Norwegian National Collection Agency in Mo i Rana. In short, Bitstream is based on the starting-point that successful development of public administration requires good understanding of how its activities are conducted and how they are perceived by its citizens/customers. This means that process mapping and subsequent process analysis and impact mapping is a fundamental condition for innovative business development aimed at creating ICT innovations in the form of, for example, mobile apps or web-based services. The main objective of the project was to create a transnational platform for capacity building and exchange of experiences in the area of innovative business development.

  • Revision of the EU's Arctic Strategy
Sent by e-mail Breivikbotn, November 9th 2020 Input – Revision of the EU’s Arctic strategy Additional input from a total of 40 municipalities in North Norway, to the public consultation regarding the revision of the EU’s Arctic strategy. The municipalities are represented by 5 inter- municipal counsils; Vest-Finnmark Rådet (7 municipalities in Troms and Finnmark County), Vesterålen regionråd (6 municipalities in Nordland County), Salten Regionråd (10 municipalities in Nordland County), Indre Helgeland Regionråd (5 municipalities in Nordland County) and Helgelandsrådet (12 municipalities in Nordland County); 1. In your view, what have been the EU’s main achievements and failures under each of the three priorities in the 2016 Joint Communication? Vest-Finnmark Rådet, Vesterålen regionråd, Salten Regionråd, Indre Helgeland Regionråd and Helgelandsrådet embraces the EU’s engagement in promoting sustainable development in the Arctic. This priority marks a positive shift in how the Arctic is perceived as a strategically important territory, with green growth potential for the region and Europe. The EU’s top priority should be to assist the region in overcoming the Arctic paradox. That is, changing a demographic trend that is inversely correlated with economic growth. A stable demographic development is a necessary precondition for development and security in the Arctic regions. The most important means of meeting regional challenges in the Nordic/European part of the Arctic is by making use of the large natural resources in the region to stimulate economic growth and create new attractive jobs including utilizing the research institutions in the Arctic. The EU’s Arctic engagement shows great achievement, as exemplified by the processes leading to the report on Arctic investment needs in 2017, and the EU Arctic Forum in 2019.
