Exaggerator Storms to Haskell Win (Cont MONDAY, AUGUST 1, 2016 LORD NELSON FLIES TO BING CROSBY WIN EXAGGERATOR STORMS Spendthrift Farm=s Lord Nelson (Pulpit) doubled up on Grade I TO HASKELL WIN tallies with a scorching victory in the GI Bing Crosby S. Sunday at Del Mar. The 4-year-old completed the Crosby=s six furlongs in 1:07.65, just .05 seconds off the track=s 43-year-old record for the distance. Off as the even-money choice, Lord Nelson sat third, two to three lengths off a blazing :21.16 quarter-mile set by joint leaders Justin Squared (Zensational) and Subtle Indian (Indian Charlie). Moving to tackle the leaders under Flavien Prat on the latter half of the turn, Lord Nelson opened clear in the straightaway and bounded home by four lengths, nearly matching the track record of King of Cricket (Coursing), set back in 1973. Lord Nelson's time established a stakes record for the Crosby, eclipsing the 54-year-old record of 1:07.80 set by Crazy Kid, which at the time was a world's record. AHe=s become a serious sprinter,@ said winning trainer Bob Baffert. AHe=s getting better and better. He was pretty close to those fast splits and he still had a kick left. He=s a really amazing horse with a devastating turn of foot. I was ecstatic when I heard he was coming to this race. I knew he would like the surface here and he showed that today.@ Exaggerator, second behind Nyquist (Uncle Mo) in the GI Kentucky Derby, splashed home first in the GI Preakness S., but was a disappointing 11th as the favorite in the June 11 GI Belmont S. last time out. The dark bay colt was last out of the gate Sunday and Desormeaux angled him to the rail well back as a four-pronged battle developed for the lead going into the first turn. Derby hero Nyquist, making his first start since suffering his first loss when third in the Preakness, gained a narrow advantage through a quarter in :22.78 with American Freedom (Pulpit) pressing him every step and even taking a narrow advantage after a half in :46.62. Nyquist dug back in to regain the lead over American Freedom entering the final bend, but Exaggerator had made stout progress and loomed a menacing threat four wide as the field approached the home stretch. JANUARY MIXED SALE Wednesday, January 16, 2019 - 12:00 Noon Fairplex - Pomona, CA © Mesaros Calif. Incentive Program_Cat 18_Page 1 CALIFORNIA’S INCENTIVE PROGRAM IT PAYS TO BREED AND OWN A CALIFORNIA-BRED In 2017, the breeders and owners of California-bred Thoroughbreds and the owners of California-based stallions received over $12M in premiums through the California Incentive Program. In addition, special racing opportunities afforded California-breds in 2017, provided more than $20M in purses for races restricted to California-breds. As a result of legislation recently amended in 2009, total monies available for incentive awards are distributed as follows: 10% to the California-bred race fund; 15% to the Maiden Bonus program: 20% bonus on the winner’s share to the owner of a California-bred Thoroughbred horse conceived by a registered eligible Thoroughbred stallion that finishes first in an open qualifying race, and a 10% bonus on the winner’s share to the owner of a California-bred Thoroughbred horse that finishes first in an open qualifying race that was not conceived by a registered eligible Thoroughbred stallion. The tracks are adding an additional 10% for Cal-bred winners of allowance races making the bonus 30%. A qualifying race is all non-claiming races excluding stakes with a purse of at least $15,000, as are open non maiden claiming races with a claiming price of $40,000 or greater in Southern California and $20,000 or greater in Northern California. After these deductions, 75% of the remainder to be paid as breeder awards, and 25% of the fund to be paid as stallion awards.

WEST COAST Flatter – Caressing by Honour and Glory 2014 Bay l 16.2 Hands “An Eclipse Award winning champion, West Coast is by an outstanding sire son of A.P. Indy, out of a ChampionTwo-Year-Old Filly. West Coast earned a title as Champion Three-Year-Old Colt with five consecutive victories, four in stakes events, and ran 1-2-3 in six consecutive grade one events, including when capturing the Travers Stakes (G1) and Pennsylvania Derby (G1). He is by Flatter, a leading stallion son of A.P. Indy, and sire of more than 50 stakes winners, and out of Caressing, Champion and Breeders’ Cup (G1) winner at two.“ The offspring of West Coast will be free of Northern Dancer at four generations on their sire’s side, and Flatter has crossed well with a wide variety of broodmare sires from that line. The cross with mares from the Danzig branch of Northern Dancer has been particulary productive with seven stakes winners, including graded stakes winners Classic Point and Mad Flatter out of mares by Langfuhr and Honor Grades (who gives inbreeding to the dam of A.P. Indy), and there are also stakes winners out of mares by War Front – who appears particularly interesting here, giving inbreeding to Relaunch and a full-sister – Danzig Connection, Ghazi and Military (who would be intriguing here).
