POSITION SUMMARY

As a SQL Database Administrator you will provide senior level of technical expertise and leadership in production and development of databases to support enterprise systems using SQL Server and Windows Server platforms. You will participate in developing procedures for database deployment and maintenance. You will develop performance monitoring strategies and oversee performance tuning, security, and daily maintenance of enterprise data infrastructure.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS This position reports to the Manager, Analytics and Database Administration.

ACCOUNTABILITIES • Ensure data management for Microsoft SQL Server within FNHA, including several complex activities around data organization, , database administration & maintenance, data analysis, data monitoring, and developing . • Enhance operational standards and policies for DB environments using industry experience, best practices, and business needs, including patch management • Build and deploy new SQL Servers to meet performance and capacity needs • Collaborate with the key internal stakeholders to design, plan, implement and resolve performance problems with database systems and ensure data security of all database environments • Design, document, and implement active/passive and active/active clusters • Perform database and recovery; perform database failovers and failbacks • Provide inputs and contribute to the development of standards, procedures and guidelines of database • Maintain database design documentation and metadata • Maintain and incrementally enhance disaster recovery capabilities for databases • Implement, configure and troubleshoot database • Design, document, and implement transactional replication strategies • Proactively monitor and adjust database parameters and support structures • Write SQL scripts to fulfill data management requirements • Develop resiliency plan against infrastructure failures • Perform capacity planning duties for DB environments • Participate in Incident, Problem and Change Management • Participate in Product and Project Life Cycle activities • Participate in Enterprise Architecture development, deployment and maintenance

QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION • Successful completion of a Diploma or Degree from a recognized College or University program in Computing Science, Computer Engineering, or related Information Technology field • Appropriate certifications and other professional development / continuing education relevant to the role

EXPERIENCE • Relevant, significant and recent experience with increasing responsibility in database administration (usually acquired over a period of five (5) years) • Proven Experience working with Microsoft SQL including server configuration, installation, T- SQL script writing, stored procedures, backup and recovery strategies, clustered configurations, disaster recovery planning, database re-build / de-fragment techniques, application tuning, and server side tuning • Experience working on large, enterprise transformational projects as well as in an operational / sustainment capacity • Developer experience (usually acquired over a period of three (3) years) is a significant asset

KNOWLEDGE • Expert knowledge of the MS SQL Server Suite, particularly SSMS • Understanding of High Availability and Disaster Recovery requirements and solutions • Expertise in troubleshooting and resolving urgent/critical incidents on production systems • Expertise in Transact SQL scripting language and SSIS

ABILITIES • Ability to document DB structures, processes, designs, topologies etc. according to best practices and industry standards • Ability to understand define business and technical requirements as they relate to , privacy and business drivers • Ability to manage databases / clusters across multiple applications • Ability to conduct analysis and research with a strong business acumen • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing, including making presentations • Ability to work in a team alongside business analysts, business users/superusers and/or infrastructure specialists • Ability to work independently • Ability to manage and prioritize work and workloads effectively in an environment of multiple competing projects/initiatives • Ability to provide a customer service orientation while dealing with multiple stakeholders

WORKING CONDITIONS • The work location will be primarily downtown Vancouver, with occasional work/meetings in West Vancouver • The work also may require planned and minimal travel in the province of BC to First Nations communities
