Database Administrator

College and Area Information Tillamook Bay Community College (TBCC) is seeking an experienced, team oriented and responsible person to serve as the institution wide Administrator. This person will be responsible for providing technical support for the SQL Server database environment and specifically the Jenzabar ERP software suite.

Tillamook Bay Community College is located 85 miles west of Portland on the beautiful North Oregon Coast in Tillamook, Oregon: the county seat of Tillamook County. The county has a population of 26,000 and TBCC served 2,287 students during the 2014-15 academic year.

Term of Employment Annual: position July 1 – June 30 Leave in accordance with current TBCC Policy and corresponding regulations.

Responsibilities The Database Administrator (DBA) will serve as institution-wide support for the Microsoft SQL Server database environment including overseeing the development and organization of the and data warehouse, assessment and implementation of new technologies, and utilizing tools to assist in the management of the database. The DBA with the IT Director is responsible for the installation, maintenance, management, reporting, and security of the College database management systems and Jenzabar EX Student (SIS) and Jenzabar Internet Campus Solution (JICS) web applications.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Query databases using the SQL Server administrative tools. Write Transact-SQL statements to query data, manipulate data, and assist with report writing.

Safeguard confidential and/or sensitive data, files and documents; guiding and implementing security implementations around Jenzabar and related computing systems.

Develop and run institutional reports in a variety of ODBC-compliant ad-hoc reporting tools, including Sybase Infomaker; Microsoft Excel, Access and SQL Server Reporting Services. Assist in turning reports into information.

Train major users and potential users on report writing and data warehouse/reports.

Develop and/or work with staff to create/develop/possibly maintain standard data reports customizable by the end .

Import and export data using SQL Server Integration Services.

Develop and maintain proficiency with vendor-provided administrative tools for Jenzabar EX and JICS and related products. Act as liaison with Jenzabar support and TBCC users.

Work with IT Department to ensure all data is backed up. Assist with troubleshooting of database and system problems.

Support and lead business process improvement through the higher level use of Jenzabar.

Evaluate new software product functionality for introduction into TBCC's Information System environment. Conduct training sessions on new system functionality. Develop training materials, training plans and schedules. Create and update system documentation as needed for departments.

Required Qualifications

Ability to work with others in a professional courteous manner and as a productive team member.

Associate's degree

Four years of direct, on-the-job experience with Microsoft SQL Server or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties.

Demonstrated ability with relational database maintenance and design, ODBC- compliant reporting tools, and end-user training and support.

Must have a broad knowledge of Microsoft operating systems, basic networking principles, web browser, email client, integrated office suites (e.g. Word, Excel, Access), and have familiarity with backing up and restoring data from a server.

Communicate effectively verbally and in writing to technical and non-technical users.

Ability to handle detail oriented work while meeting schedules and deadlines.

Experience with student management information system

Ability to work with users to turn reports into information.

Ability to assist users with their requests for assistance with more complex functions and reports.

Know SQL, TSQL or Visual Basic and ability to learn new programming languages quickly.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of Jenzabar's Management Information System including Jenzabar's JICS portlets, JICS Mobile, PowerFaids, EDI, and EXi.

Knowledge of SQL, TSQL, InfoMaker, SSRS. Knowledge of Perl, ASP.Net, HTML, CSS web programming language. Bachelor’s degree in programming, or related field.

Working Conditions

May require occasional evening or week-end work.

Compensation and Position Availability This is a 1.0 FTE position. Salary is $58,343 – 60,093 depending on experience. Benefits are in accordance with Board Policy. This is a Full-time grant-funded position, based on progress and funding, through September 2018. Position responsibilities, deliverables, and scope may evolve as grant matures.
