tatistics show that black cats are the least likely to be adopted from shelters. This is them will surely steal your heart and reward you with the special love and devotion that S mainly the case in the US, one of the few countries that consider black cats to be only a black cat can give. All of the cats are healthy, vaccinated and ready for a home of bad luck. Most other countries believe the exact opposite - that black cats bring good luck, their own. You can visit the Shelter on the Lagun Road, Monday through Saturday, 9am- good fortune and… good luck in love! 1pm,3-5pm. Tel. 717-4989, WWWBonaireAnimalShelter.com. On Facebook too.  Right now the Bonaire Animal Shelter has eight beautiful black cats, ranging in age Jane Madden Disko from two months to four years, looking for a forever home. Some have been at the Shelter Photo credits: Barbara Huveneers, Hanny Hoogerkamp, Laura DeSalvo for almost three years, just waiting for the “non-discriminatory” human to realize how special they are. While they may all just look like a “black” cat, on closer inspection you will see that each of them have their own individual features. Some turn “chocolate” in the sunlight; others have long, luxurious fur; some have tiny white “whiskers” running through their coat; others have subtle “stripes” of varying shades of black. No matter their differences, all of them are beautiful and loving. Because of the genetic coding that produces the black coat, black cats tend to be health- ier and more resistant to diseases than other cats and are known to live to quite an old age. Anecdotal evidence further suggests that black cats are also more intelligent and respon- sive than other cats. Proof of that is evident if you spend time with the Shelter black beau- ties. And if “looks” are important to you, remember that black goes with everything and it’s a bit exotic having a miniature panther around your house! Black cats have been a favorite of many famous people, including Queen Victoria, John Lennon, Fred Astaire, Winston Saturday, 26 of April Churchill, Ernest Hemingway, James Dean and Edgar Allen Poe. Please come and visit the eight ebony beauties currently living at the Shelter. One of
