Foram registradas um total de 450 espécies de aves, das quais 63 consideradas de interesse para conservação, como Leucopternis lacernulatus, Harpyhaliaetus coronatus, Triclaria malachitacea, Myrmotherula minor, Dacnis nigripes, Sporophila frontalis e S. falcirostris. A reserva também está desenvolvendo um projeto de reintrodução dos localmente extintos Crax blumembachii e Aburria jacutinga, e de reforço das populações locais de Tinamus solitarius. Some 20 speciesof antbirdsoccur in lowland Caribbeanrainforest in southeast Nicaragua where they form five distinct guilds on the basis of habitat preferences,foraging ecology, and foraging behavior. Three guilds are habitat-based,in Edge, Forest, and Gaps within forest; two are behaviorally distinct, with species of army ant followers and those foraging within mixed-species flocks. The guilds each contain 3-6 antbird species. Within guilds, species are segregatedby body size differences between member species, and in several guilds are evenly spaced on a logarithmic scale of body mass. Among guilds, the factors by which adjacent body sizes differ vary between 1.25 and 1.75. Body size differ- ences may be related to differences in preferred prey sizes, but are influenced also by the density of the vegetation in which each speciescustomarily forages. Resumen. Welcome to the Ornithological Congress of the Americas! Puerto Iguazú, Misiones, Argentina, from 8–11 August, 2017 Puerto Iguazú is located in the heart of the interior Atlantic Forest and is the portal to the Iguazú Falls, one of the world’s Seven Natural Wonders and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The area surrounding Puerto Iguazú, the province of Misiones and neighboring regions of Paraguay and Brazil offers many scenic attractions and natural areas such as Iguazú National Park, and provides unique opportunities for birdwatching. Over 500 species have been recorded, including many Atlantic Forest endemics like the Blue Manakin (Chiroxiphia caudata), the emblem of our congress. This is the first meeting collaboratively organized by the Association of Field Ornithologists, Sociedade Brasileira de Ornitologia and Aves Argentinas, and promises to be an outstanding professional experience for both students and researchers. En particular, la biología de anidación de varias especies de la familia Pipridae, conocida por sus carac- terísticos despliegues de machos en asambleas de cortejo, es poco conocida. Aquí proporcionamos descripciones y comparamos la arquitectura de nidos y lugares de anidación utilizados por tres especies de saltarines: Saltarín Cola de Alambre Pipra filicauda,Saltarín Coroniblanco P. pipra y Saltarín Coroniazul Lepidothrix coronata,presentes en la Amazonia baja del Ecuador.Encontramos 76 nidos de P. filicauda,13 nidos de P. pipra y 41 nidos de L. coronata.Los resultados indican que P. filicauda y L. coronata usan hábitat similares para anidar (flancos o crestas de quebradas pequeñas), mientras que P. pipra tiende a anidar en sitios relativamente abiertos rodeados por sotobosque más denso. Las tres especies construyen nidos pequeños, poco profundos, los cuales, a pesar de ser similares, son distinguibles debido a sus componentes estructurales y características de ubicación. Este estudio contribuye a nuestro conocimiento sobre los hábitos de anidación de la avifauna tropical. 'Bogotá' Type Specimens of the Hummingbird Genus Adelomyia

Donegan & Jorge Enrique Avendaño Received 25 September 2014 Summary.—Molecular work has revealed that Speckled Hummingbirds Adelomyia melanogenys in the East Andes of dpto. Santander, Colombia, represent a distinct lineage not previously recognised taxonomically. Most specimens from this region differ from others taken in the East Andes by their more extensively rufous and speckled posterior underparts. Sound-recordings and biometrics showed broad overlap for all variables in both populations. Statistically significant but non- diagnosable differences exist in the number of notes in trills of songs, speed of calls and bill length. The type of Adelomyia melanogenys (Fraser 1840) is a ‘Bogotá’ specimen similar to birds from dpto. Cundinamarca, Colombia. Trochilus sabinae Bourcier & Mulsant, 1846, is also based on a ‘Colombia’ specimen. A possible type was identified that resembles the Santander population in its underparts.Adelomyia simplex Boucard, 1893, is based on a leucistic ‘Bogotá’ specimen more consistent with the Cundinamarca population than others. If the Santander population is recognised taxonomically, it is suggested to clarify the type locality for sabinae as the west slope of the East Andes in Santander or Boyacá, but molecular work is needed to confirm this. A. m. inornata in the southern Andes has a faster call and distinctive plumage, and perhaps merits species rank. The genus Adelomyia is monospecific, comprising the polytypic Speckled Hummingbird A. melanogenys, a widespread Andean hummingbird. -

Life History of the Broad-Billed Motmot, with Notes on the Rufous Motmot
LIFE HISTORY OF THE BROAD-BILLED MOTMOT, WITH NOTES ON THE RUFOUS MOTMOT ALEXAWDERF. SKUTCH N earlier papers (1945, 1947, 1964) 1 gave accounts of the habits of three I species of motmots that inhabit more or less open country, or cool woodland on high mountains. The present paper deals with two species of the wet lowland forest. The nests of these two motmots that we chiefly studied were in sight of each other on the “La Selva” nature preserve, which lies along the left bank of the Rio Puerto Viejo just above its confluence with the Rio Sarapiqui, a tributary of the Rio San Juan in the Caribbean lowlands of northern Costa Rica. They were watched during two visits to this locality, from April to June in 1967 and from March to early June in the following year. The heavy forest of this very rainy region, with its tall, epiphyte-burdened trees, its undergrowth dominated by low palms, and its exceptionally rich avifauna, has been well described by Slud (1960). BROAD-BILLEDMOTMOT (Electron platyrhynchum) One of the smaller members of its family, the Broad-billed Motmot is about 12 inches long. The foreparts of its short body, including the head, neck, and chest, are mainly cinnamon-rufous, with a large black patch on either side, covering the cheeks and auricular region, another black patch in the center of the foreneck, and greenish blue on the chin and upper throat. The posterior parts of the body, including the back and rump, breast and abdomen, are green, more olivaceous above, more bluish below. -

We present the bird collection catalogue of the world fauna from the patrimony of the Zoological Museum of Cluj (founded in 1859). The studied collection includes 221 specimens belonging to 172 species, 59 families, 18 orders. Especially, we mention a small hummingbird collection made of 45 specimens, 38 species; some endemic species, three from Brazil (Malacoptila striata, Hemithraupis ruficapilla, Paroaria dominicana) and Apteryx oweni (New Zealand). Also, the collection includes other distinguished species as: Goura victoriae, Argusianus argus grayi, Tragopan melanocephalus, Lophophorus impejanus. Colecia studiat; cuprinde 221 de exemplare încadrate în 172 de specii, 59 de familii, 18 ordine. Brazil's Eastern Amazonia
The loud and impressive White Bellbird, one of the many highlights on the Brazil’s Eastern Amazonia 2017 tour (Eduardo Patrial) BRAZIL’S EASTERN AMAZONIA 8/16 – 26 AUGUST 2017 LEADER: EDUARDO PATRIAL This second edition of Brazil’s Eastern Amazonia was absolutely a phenomenal trip with over five hundred species recorded (514). Some adjustments happily facilitated the logistics (internal flights) a bit and we also could explore some areas around Belem this time, providing some extra good birds to our list. Our time at Amazonia National Park was good and we managed to get most of the important targets, despite the quite low bird activity noticed along the trails when we were there. Carajas National Forest on the other hand was very busy and produced an overwhelming cast of fine birds (and a Giant Armadillo!). Caxias in the end came again as good as it gets, and this time with the novelty of visiting a new site, Campo Maior, a place that reminds the lowlands from Pantanal. On this amazing tour we had the chance to enjoy the special avifauna from two important interfluvium in the Brazilian Amazon, the Madeira – Tapajos and Xingu – Tocantins; and also the specialties from a poorly covered corner in the Northeast region at Maranhão and Piauí states.
