Plaintiff Colin Bower brought this action on his own behalf and in his capacity as the guardian of his two minor children after his former wife, defendant Mirvat El- Nady, fled to Cairo, Egypt, in August of 2009, taking the children with her without his consent and in violation of a Massachusetts court order granting custody to Bower. This decision does not affect the validity of the custody order, or the criminal prosecution of Mirvat El-Nady. Rather, it involves a related but separate claim against defendant EgyptAir, the airline on which El-Nady flew with her children from New York to Cairo. This report summarizes what airlines in the Middle East are doing and planning. Major carriers Airline Action and plans Emirates Most passenger operations suspended from March 25. Flights to five European destinations resuming on April 6 Etihad Airways All flights suspended from March 26, initially for 14 days Qatar Airways Most flights continue, serving passengers transiting through Doha Turkish Airlines All international and some domestic routes suspended until May 1 Emirates resuming some flights after suspending most passenger operations Emirates suspended most passenger operations from March 25, with no date in place for their resumption.1 It had been trying to maintain these flights as long as possible, to help travelers return home. But increasing travel restrictions – including the March 19 suspension of all entry visas to the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.) – forced it to curtail its operations substantially. Emirates will continue to operate a small number of passenger flights to a limited number of countries, as long as their borders stay open and demand remains. The airline will resume suspended services once countries reopen their borders and travel confidence returns. Emirates is already looking forward to a gradual resumption of passenger services as travel and operational restrictions are lifted. It has received approval to resume services to Brussels, Frankfurt, London, Paris and Zurich from April 6.2 It will offer four flights per week to Heathrow and three to each of the other destinations.

    FlyQuiet Programme A quieter Heathrow FlyQuiet league table – Q3 2016 Overview The Fly Quiet Programme is one of the steps Heathrow is taking to reduce aircraft noise, set out in ‘A quieter Heathrow’. It is intended to further encourage airlines to use quieter aircraft and to fly them in the quietest possible way. The league table The Fly Quiet league table is published every quarter comparing each of the top 50 airlines (according to the number of flights to and from Heathrow per year) across six different noise metrics. Where the table shows amber dots, the airlines have met Heathrow’s minimum performance targets and green dots show they have exceeded them. If the airline has a red dot in a particular area, we work closely with them to improve performance. This solution from Lufthansa Systems flexibly adapts the management of codeshare flights to schedule changes and offers a high degree of automation. This enables EL AL to optimize its codeshare management while reducing costs and enhancing its competitiveness. The two companies signed a five-year agreement for the solution which is in use since mid- September. “We previously coordinated our codeshare connections largely manually. Thanks to the extensive automation of the system, SchedConnect will considerably simplify our codeshare management, prevent errors and optimize processes,” said Sandu Jacob, Data Base Department Manager, Scheduling & Distribution System Division at EL AL. “We expect significant cost savings from this as well as additional revenues.” SchedConnect offers a high degree of automation by calculating the optimum codeshare connections on a daily basis. To do this, the system processes schedule data from over 150 airlines worldwide. Each and every month, five million codeshare connections on average are calculated using SchedConnect. If a minimum connecting time fails to be met due a schedule change or a partner flight is canceled, the system automatically assigns the marketing flight number to another suitable connecting flight from the partner. Changes are sent through the reservation systems to travel agents and customers as well as to the operations and passenger-related systems of the airlines involved.
