TONIGHT’S STORYLINES EXCEPTIONAL START With the victory over the Colorado Avalanche, the Golden Knights became the first club in the 100-year history of the NHL to win eight of its first nine games in its inaugural season. The win gave Vegas its fifth straight victory, which matched the longest winning streak by a team at any point in its inaugural NHL season, joining the 1926-27 Rangers and 1979-80 Oilers. Earlier this season, the Golden Knights became the first expansion team in NHL history to start with a 3-0-0 record, besting the Oakland Seals and Los Angeles Kings who both started the 1967-68 season with a 2-0-1 record.

SUCCESS IN THE SECOND STANZA The strongest period for the Vegas Golden Knights this season has arguably been the second period. The Golden Knights have scored 17 times and have allowed only five goals during second stanza, giving them an NHL-best +12 goal differential during the middle period this year.

FIRST GOAL OF THE GAME In 11 games this season, the Golden Knights have allowed opposing teams to score the first goal seven times but that has only translated into a few victories for those teams. Vegas owns a league-leading 5-2 record when its opposition posts the first goal of the game. The Golden Knights have a 3-1 record when they score first.

THE REAL DEAL James Neal scored the first two goals in Golden Knights history against the Dallas Stars and the overtime winner against the Arizona Coyotes, becoming the first player in NHL history to score the first two game-winning goals in a franchise's inaugural season. He added two more goals in the Golden Knights 5-2 win over Arizona and became the second player from any NHL team to score a GWG in each of his club’s first three games in any regular-season. Neal joined Real Cloutier of the as the only players in the expansion era to score five or more goals in an expansions team’s first three games. He added another against Detroit and after scoring his most recent goal against Colorado, he became the fourth-fastest player to score seven goals for an expansion team (since 1967-68) in its inaugural NHL season.
