2018-19 Chicago Wolves Game Notes CHICAGO AT SAN ANTONIO MARCH 23, 2019 7 p.m. AHLTV 2018-19 ADDITION BY SUBTRACTION? It defies logic, but it’s the truth: The Chicago Wolves keep losing important players, but they keep TALE OF THE TAPE winning important games. The latest example came Friday night as the Wolves knocked off the Texas REGULAR-SEASON SERIES Stars 4-1 despite playing without three of their top five scorers this season -- and losing their No. 6 4-2-0-0 San Antonio | 2-3-0-1 Chicago scorer during the third period. On the morning of Feb. 17, the Wolves woke up in third place in the Central Division. They owned 60 points, which was seven behind the front-running Grand Rapids Griffins and two behind the Iowa Wild. Since that time, the Wolves have lost defenseman Erik Brannstrom (trade), No. 1 AHL scorer Daniel Carr (injury), No. 4 AHL scorer Brooks Macek (injury), physical forward Stefan Matteau (injury) and 27-31-6-1 AHL plus-minus leader Gage Quinney (potential injury during Friday’s game). 38-19-5-3 LEADING SCORERS IN SERIES Nevertheless, the Wolves have produced an 11-2-0-2 record (.800) since Feb. 17 to vault past the Grif- fins and the Wild into first place in the Central Division. Chicago takes the ice tonight with a 4-point SAN ANTONIO CHICAGO lead over Grand Rapids and Iowa. Moreover, the Wolves’ magic number for a Calder Cup playoff berth Skater G A Pts Skater G A Pts has dropped to 9.

2018-19 !!!!!CHICAGO!WOLVES ! GAME!NOTES CHICAGO at COLORADO OCTOBER 5, 2018 8 p.m. AHLTV THE!=>TH!ANNIVERSARY!SEASON 2018-19 After months of preparation and anticipation, the 2018-19 American Hockey League season finally has TALE!OF!THE!TAPE arrived for the Chicago Wolves. Tonight marks the start of the franchise’s 25th season overall and 18th year as part of the American Hockey League. It seems fitting to open the year against the Colorado REGULAR-SEASON SERIES 0-0-0-0 Colorado | 0-0-0-0 Chicago Eagles because it’s a milestone occasion for them as well. The Eagles are making their AHL debut as they were welcomed as the league’s 31st team earlier this year. LAST MEETING April 22, 2018 Just as the Wolves are known for being four-time league champions, the Eagles enter this year riding the momentum of back-to-back championships in the ECHL. They have become partners with the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche this season, so their roster does not bear much resemblance to the group that claimed the 2018 Kelly Cup. Only six Eagles return, but a good chunk of Colorado’s Opening Night 0-0-0-0 0-0-0-0 roster played for San Antonio last year as the Rampage served as the Colorado Avalanche’s NHL partner. That group includes former Wolves forward Andrew Agozzino (18 goals, 36 assists in 2016-17). Marner Working to Avoid Sophomore Slump After an impressive rookie season, Toronto Maple Leafs center Mitchell Marner has been flying under the radar, which has many worried about what the 2017-2018 season will hold. Marner was selected fourth overall in the 2015 NHL Draft after playing two impressive seasons with the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League. His junior accolades form a lengthy list that includes finishing second among OHL rookies in scoring, being named the 2016 Canadian Hockey League Player of the Year and helping London win the Memorial Cup. After being drafted, Marner went on to play for Canada in the 2016 World Junior Championship where he tied for the team lead in scoring. With such an impressive résumé, many expected the center to make a big impact on the Leafs. He didn’t disappoint. As one-third of the rookie trio, Marner racked up 61 points (19 G, 42 A) in 77 games played. This number was good enough to tie for third place in scoring on the team and his 42 assists set a new rookie record. What the young leaf lacks in size, he compensates for with his speed, passing ability and playmaking skills. As the 2017-2018 season rolled around, Leafs fans and coaches had high hopes for the trio of Auston Matthews, William Nylander and Mitch Marner. All three were quick to make an impact by scoring a goal in the team’s first regular season game against the Winnipeg Jets. As the season rolled on, Matthews and Nylander continued to make their presence known while Marner slid into the background.

2018-19 Chicago Wolves Game Notes TUCSON AT CHICAGO DECEMBER 16, 2018 3 p.m. THE U TOO OWNING THE MIDDLE THIRD 2018-19 Every team wants to get their season off to a good start. And, of course, every team wants to finish TALE OF THE TAPE strong and head into the postseason on a roll. But what about the middle third of the schedule? Those REGULAR-SEASON SERIES games count just as much in the standings. 0-1-0-0 Tucson | 1-0-0-0 Chicago The Chicago Wolves opened the middle third of this year’s 76-game schedule with a 4-2 victory over the Tucson Roadrunners on Saturday night at Allstate Arena. That suggests this year’s team might be made of the same stuff as the last two Wolves squads that rode strong efforts in the middle third of the schedule to the Central Division title. Last season, Rocky Thompson’s Wolves posted a 17-5-2-1 record (.740) during Games 26-50 to vault 15-7-2-1 14-9-2-1 from last place to third in the Central Division. In 2016-17, Craig Berube’s Wolves earned a 15-7-1-2 record (.660) during the middle third of the season to climb from third to second.
