TONIGHT'S GAME The Capitals play against the Vegas Golden Knights at Capital One Arena on Saturday in the first of two meetings between the teams this season. The Capitals are 1-3-0-0 all-time against the Golden Knights in the regular season and won the 2018 Stanley Cup against Vegas 4-1.

NOTE OF THE NIGHT Swede Nick - With an assist against Florida on Thursday, Nicklas Backstrom (233g, 653a, 886 points) passed Peter Forsberg (249g, 636a, 885 points) for the seventh-most points in NHL history by a Swedish-born player. Backstrom (912 games) and Forsberg (708 games) are the only two Swedish players to rank in the top-10 that have played fewer than 950 career games. Backstrom also passed on Oct. 22nd against Calgary for the fifth-most assists by a Swedish-born player in NHL history, and now trails Daniel Alfredsson (713) by 61 assists for the fourth-most in NHL history. Since entering the NHL during the 2007-08 season, Backstrom's 653 assists rank first in the NHL, and he ranks 20th all-time among players selected fourth overall or higher in the NHL Draft in career assists. Backstrom has recorded at least 50 assists in each of the last six seasons, one of two active players to accomplish the feat (Joe Thornton) and one of 26 all-time.

TOP FIVE CAPS FACTS Great Start - The Capitals defeated the Florida Panthers 5-4 in last night to extend their point streak to 10 games (9-0-1) and their winning streak to five games. It marks their first five game win streak of the season and their NHL-leading 24th since 2009-10. During that 10-game stretch, the Capitals have scored four or more goals nine times and at least five goals six times. The Capitals rank first in the NHL with 68 goals.

Multi-Ovi - Alex Ovechkin recorded his 136th career multi-goal game against Florida on Thursday to pass Mike Gartner (135) for sole possession of the seventh-most in NHL history. Since entering the NHL, that ranks first in the NHL, 52 more than , who ranks second during that span.

• Points For O - Ovechkin's 22 points (13g, 9a) are tied for sixth in the NHL, and his 13 goals are tied for second. Ovechkin has recorded a point in all but four games this season and a point in 12 of his last 14 games (12g, 9a). The Capitals are 9-2-2 this season when Ovechkin records a point.

• Climbing Lists - Ovechkin's 671 career regular-season goals rank 12th on the NHL’s all-time list and the most in League history among players listed as a left wing.

• Shots Fired - Ovechkin's 84 shots this season lead the NHL. Ovechkin has led the NHL in shots in 11 of his previous 14 seasons. He's now 46 shots shy of passing Marcel Dionne (5,363) for the third-most shots in NHL history.

Shot Blockers - The Capitals have blocked 267 shots this season, which ranks second in the NHL. Over the course of an 82-game season, the Capitals are on pace to block 1,288 shots, which would be the second most in franchise history since 1997-98, when the NHL began tracking blocked shots. The Capitals have blocked 27.2 percent of the attempts against them (267 blocks on 981 shot attempts).

• New Guys Putting it on the Line - Three of the Capitals' top four shot blockers (Jonas Siegenthaler: 34; Radko Gudas: 28; Nick Jensen: 23) all received full time roles with the Capitals within the calendar year. The Capitals have five players (Siegenthaler, Gudas, Jensen, John Carlson: 33; Dmitry Orlov: 23) that are on pace to block over 111 shots this season, and Michal Kempny (16), who missed eight games due to injury, would be on pace to block 145 shots over an 82-game season. The Capitals have never had more than four player in a single season block at least 111 shots.

25 in 17 - John Carlson (1g, 2a) registered his fourth three-point game of the season – including an assist on the overtime winner by Tom Wilson (2g) – to eclipse the 25-point mark (8g, 18a in 17 games) and help the NHL-leading Capitals (12-2-3, 27 points) overcome deficits of 3-1 and 4-3 to defeat the Panthers on Thursday. Carlson, who leads all defensemen in goals, assists and points this season, became the seventh different blueliner in NHL history to reach the 25-point mark in 17 or fewer games and first since Calgary’s Al MacInnis (8g, 17a in 13 games) 29 years ago, joining MacInnis, Denis Potvin (1975-76), Bobby Orr (four times: 1969-70; 1971-72; 1973-74; 1974-75), Paul Coffey (1988-89) (twice: 1981-82; 1987-88) and Larry Robinston (1976-77).

• Passing Greats - With the three-point effort, Carlson (98g, 331a, 429 points) passed Kevin Hatcher (149g, 277a, 426 points) and tied Scott Stevens (98g, 331a, 429 points) for second place on the franchise’s all-time regular-season points list among defensemen, trailing only Calle Johansson (113g, 361a, 474 points).

• Two from 100 - Carlson is two goals shy of 100 career goals, where he would become the fifth defenseman in franchise history to reach the mark.

Cool Whip - Tom Wilson scored the game-winning overtime goal against Florida on Thursday, his first career regular season overtime goal. Wilson is now on a three-game point streak (3g, 4a), recording a multi-point game in three-straight games for the first time in his career. He leads the Capitals with seven points (3g, 4a) in the month of November. Since the 2018-19 season, Wilson is averaging 0.68 points per game, more than double his per game totals in the previous years of his career (0.27). This year, Wilson holds the distinction of being the only player in the NHL with a power play goal, a shorthanded goal, game-winning goal and an overtime goal. Additionally, Wilson's 16 penalty minutes through the first 17 games are on pace for his lowest single-season penalty minute total in his career.

QUICK HITS Penalty S-Kill - The Capitals currently rank eighth on the penalty kill (54 for 63, 85.7 percent). Through 17 games last season, the Capitals ranked 28th in the NHL on the penalty kill (48 for 66, 72.7 percent) and allowed a power play goal in 13 games. This season, the Capitals have not lost in regulation when allowing a power play goal (5-0-2) and have not allowed more than two power play goals in a game.

• New Imports Contributing - Jonas Siegethaler (49:54), Radko Gudas (47:23), Carl Hagelin (46:08) and Nick Jensen (40:36) lead the Capitals in

penalty kill time, and all have established full time roles within the calendar year.

• Shot Suppression - The Capitals have allowed 42.72 shots per 60 minutes of penalty kill time this season, the third-lowest shots against rate in the

NHL.

Line is Hot - The Capitals' line of Jakub Vrana, Evgeny Kuznetsov and Tom Wilson have played together for 50:40 of five-on-five time this season. The trio has recorded a 53.33 shot attempt percentage (48 shot attempts for, 42 against), a 54.90 shots for percentage (28 shots for, 23 against) and have outscored opponents 8-3.

Super Efficient Lar - Lars Eller leads the Capitals with a 57.66 on-ice shot attempt percentage at five-on-five (192 shot attempts for, 141 against), which ranks 10th among centers this season. Should Eller maintain that rate, it will be the highest shot attempt percentage recorded by a Capitals' forward since the NHL began publishing the data in the 2009-10 season (currently Alex Ovechkin: 57.64 shot attempt percentage, 2009-10).

League Leaders - The Capitals’ 68 goals through 16 games rank first in the NHL, and over the course of an 82-game season, Washington is on pace for 328 goals, which would be the second-most goals they’ve recorded in a single season in franchise history and the most since the 1992-93 season (325 goals).

Get the Lead - The Capitals have led their games for 472:54, the second-most time in the NHL (Boston: 509:13).

Did You Know? - Jonas Siegenthaler ranks first among defensemen this season in minor penalties drawn (9).

Strong Seconds - The Capitals have scored a goal in every second period this season, outscoring opponents 27-13, the most second period goals in the NHL.

No Quit - Dmitry Orlov has played in 363-consecutive games, all with the Capitals, the sixth-longest active streak in the NHL.

Models of Consistency - The Capitals have scored a goal in 37 of their last 42 periods of hockey, including 14 periods with at least two goals.

Versus Opponent Versus Vegas - Alex Ovechkin has three goals in four games against Vegas, while Evgeny Kuznetsov leads the franchise in points against the Golden Knights (1g, 5a).
