Welcome to Show Me Shorts 2014. This festival Powhiri Welcome 1 belongs to New Zealand, where I am proud to say, we are world leaders in making short films. Show Themed Sessions of Short Films: Me Shorts celebrates this by showcasing a selection Art Will Save the World 2 of the very best local and international shorts for Bromance 4 you. Time Travellers 10 The festival launches on 6 November at Auckland’s My Generation 12 majestic picture palace, The Civic. My team and I Highlights 14 think it’s an appropriate place for New Zealand’s only Academy Awards®-accredited film festival. Events: Join the short film community at a variety of events Rialto Channel Opening Night & 16 and networking opportunities throughout the Awards Ceremony Auckland month. I encourage aspiring filmmakers to attend Rialto Channel 16 our Yoobee Short Film Talks to hear about the Opening Night Wellington journey of successful shorts. I invite parents and Yoobee Short Film Talks 17 teachers to introduce their children and young Short Film Lab 18 people to the wonder of shorts, by attending the My Awards 18 Generation themed session in our programme. Survey 19 With 41 short films and six music videos in the programme this year, there is truly something for everyone. Closer to home Kiwi actress Loren Taylor Paraparaumu 21 (Eagle vs Shark) features in two of our short films, Stewart Island 21 Tauranga 21 Leo Woodhead’s award winning Cold Snap, and Timaru 21 the post-apocalyptic world of The Light Harvester Wellington 21 alongside Craig Hall (A Place to Call Home, The Whitianga 21 Hobbit). Greg Johnson and John Leigh (both ex-Shortland Street) join forces in the bromantic Acknowledgements comedy Snowmen, and Charlie Bleakley (Scarfies) (Outside back cover) equally keeps us in stitches in the road trip comedy Coconut. This year we received almost 1,000 entries from over 50 countries. The final selection is outstanding in so many ways. We’re only sad we didn’t have room for more shorts in our programme.
