Sometimes, some of the best music is created by some of the youngest musicians in the music industry. Such is the case with the Chase Walker Band whose band members are all too young to vote. The three musicians that make up the ensemble are 15 year old Chase Walker (vocals and lead guitar); 14 year old Matthew Fyke (drums) and 15 year old Randon Davitt (vocals and bass). While many young musicians are looking to follow the current pop stars that are making names for themselves by simply copying the current musical trends, it takes a lot of effort and determination to decide to use the music of yesterday as the basis of what you want your music to sound like. The Chase Walker Band is one such band in today’s musical world that is using the sounds and influences of bands like Cream to help shape their music. Although the band is still rather young, that hasn’t stopped Chase Walker, Matthew Fyke and Randon Davitt from creating a complete album of music. The band’s new release is entitled Unleashed . Unleashed from The Chase Walker Band begins with the track “Coming Clean”. The power blues coming from the band takes the listener back to the days of solid rock. The song shows off Walker’s abilities as both a singer and as a guitarist as he takes turns singing the lyrics to the track and playing a few solos on the guitar that show that he has some nice chops for a player so young. With the track “Buffalo Bayou,” the band takes their music more towards the rock end of the spectrum while still allowing some of the blues to shine through. The track begins with Matthew Fyke establishing a strong beat and then the other two musicians join in on his beat to create the track. Like “Coming Clean” before it, this track once again shows off the talents of Walker as a guitar, but this time, the band sounds a lot more like a unit and they produce a song that the band Cream would be proud of. The trio feeling of the band truly comes through in this track. The harder feel of the music takes the meaning of “power blues” to a new level. After taking the listener on a stronger power blues trip, the trio of Walker, Fyke and Davitt take their music in a rock direction for the song “Good Day for the Blues”. The song is infectious enough to have people singing along with the lyrics. The track sound like a rock track that could have come from the eighties, with just enough blues flavor to keep the track from sounding out of place. The band once again brings the energy of their music with the track “Fall from the Ground”. The sounds like a mix of power blues and power rock. The band alternates from the lighter feel from the blues side and the heavy side from the rock feeling. The track allows the listener to hear the diversity that exists within the music of The Chase Walker Band. Just in case you were looking for the best indication as to whether or not the band could actually play straight-out classic blues music, the track “Blues Deluxe” finds the trio breaking out their best blues for this track. This track proves that, no matter how young the members of the band are, they can hold their own against anyone much older than they are. “Blues Deluxe” is just the thing you need if you are in the mood for a good dose of the blues. Once the listener gets a dose of the classic blues, The Chase Walker Band changes the mood of the music once again. The track “Need You Tonight” takes the concept of the love song and adds a healthy amount of the blues to the music. The easy pace of the music goes well with the lyrics of longing. The solo from Walker once again brings the feeling to the track, proving that missing someone is a great reason to have the blues. The thirteen tracks that make up the debut album from The Chase Walker Band, entitled Unleashed, show the versatility and musical ability of the three members of Chase Walker, Matthew Fyke and Randon Davitt. Each of the tracks stays within the blues, but the band manages to create songs that have plenty of variety in them. The band’s youth gives them the chance to get even better as they age, and here’s to a long life as The Chase Walker Band!
