C 2020-21 Revised Course (Form B/335)

Revised Course - Form B/335

Effective Term:* 202220 Fall 2021

Department:* Communication, Humanities & Arts Department

Subject Code:* HIST Course Number:* 103

Shortened Course Title: History to 1865

Official Course Title:* United States History to 1865

Areas Updated:* Credit Hours Sequence of Instruction Course Title Course Equivalencies Course Description Major/Program Restrictions Type of Instruction Learning Outcomes Prerequisite/Co-requisite Methods of Assessment Course Fees Core Knowledge Area Electives Facility Needs Textbooks/Required Materials

Justification for Proposal:* This change is long overdue. For years, enrollments in HIST 104, United States History II have lagged behind HIST 103, United States History I. Despite notations in Banner that 103 is not a pre-req for 104, students think they need 103 US I before taking 104 US II. In order to avoid any future confusion and perhaps equalize enrollment in the two courses, we are renaming the survey sequence.

Textbooks are being added as well to the 335. To reduce student expense, two of the texts are open source digital texts.
