July 17 Sponsored by Frank Mercede & Sons Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes In a business where success is defined as getting a second single and longevity measured in nanoseconds, simply surviving for thirty plus years is a rare accomplishment. Organized by singer John Lyon, guitarist/songwriter Steve Van Zandt (who decamped for the E Street Band in 1975, but continued to produce, manage, and Southside Johnny

write songs for the Jukes) and Richie Rosenberg, the band is well known for high-energy shows and no-holds-barred songs, including “I Don’t Wanna Go Home,” “Having a Party,” “The Fever,” “Talk to Me,” “Trapped Again,” and “This Time It’s for Real.” southsidejohnny.com

Their four-million-selling album, 98° and Rising (1998, ), spawned the top-5 favorites “Because of You,” “,” and “The Hardest Thing,” while 2000’s Revelation (Universal Records), which sold 98 Degrees two million copies, peaked at number 2 on the and yielded a trio of hits, “Give Me Just One Night (Una Noche),” “My Everything” and “The Way You Want Me To.” The male-harmony group, which includes , and brothers Nick and , emerged at a time when teen-oriented acts such as the Spice Girls, The and NSYNC were just hitting the top of the charts around the world. They differentiated themselves from many of the other teen bands at the time as they wrote much of their own material, which reflected their own R&B influences. 98degrees.com
