It was entered into the TR7 & TR8 class. I had participated Treasure’s Report in this show in the past, but never with the TR7, just with the TR4A. This show has Preservation Judging for any car in all classes that are in Club Info Page 3 the show. The requirements for this judging are original paint, interior Member Bits Pages 4- 8 and engine, but the engine can have been rebuilt. Since that is what I have, I checked the box for the judging. The judges disqualified both of their About TSWF Membership cars, because they had been repainted. Of all the classes in the show, my TR7 took the only Trophy for Preservation Judging in the show. They had discovered a ‘Classic Car Dealer’ called Ideal Classic Cars on US 41 (2224 S Tamiami Trl) in Venice. The showroom holds about 50 “used” and/or restored cars for sale from the 50‘s through the 80’s. There are also a few pickup trucks from the 50’s. This is a climate-controlled showroom, not a garage. Great lighting makes the cars sparkle. No prices are posted on the cars. If you are interested, the sales people at the information desk will provide the asking price for the car in which you are interested. We found only 2 British cars for sale: 1980 Spitfire w/OD, Asking Price $19,983 Morris Minor Many Corvettes, Camaros, Mustangs and Thunderbirds were being displayed, plus some Cadillac convertibles with trunks the size of a child’s swimming pool!! www.tswfl.org Triumphs Live On 5 Cadillac Convertible 60’s Mustang Dashboard & Steering Wheel Specialty cars: VW with back window blinds Auburn www.tswfl.org Triumphs Live On 6 A VW “Thing” From the “Cars” movie The Batmobile Beverly Hillbillies’ Truck It was a great trip down memory lane. The show was smaller this time than normal as only 93 display spaces were available. This was due to the fact that AACA was no longer able to use the field adjacent to the Depot Museum property. I left home at 8 am with the top down wearing an extra jacket and sweater against the fairly cold air. At the show the boy scouts were running around and showing the cars to their parking spaces. It worked very well. After a quick last polish, I walked around to take some pictures before the crowds were to arrive, hence, the lack of visitors in several of my shots. By mid-day the show was fairly busy, but there were definitely less visitors than the previous years. Apart from my TR6, there were only a few British sports cars in the show; a Sunbeam Tiger and three E-Types. Also, there were a few Rolls Royce’s and two Bentleys. Within the British cars two immaculate cars won prizes, a Sunbeam Tiger and a V12 E-Type. www.tswfl.org Triumphs Live On 8 The Depot Show is always fairly American-dominated. My favorite car was an orange-red 1930 Cord L-29 that in the end won both its own class and the Popular Vote. 1947 Sea Board Railway Observation Car www.tswfl.org Triumphs Live On 9 March Activity Coverage The Sixth Annual B.I.G. European Sports and Collector Car Show (British, Italian & German) Author: Dennis McKinley, On Sunday morning, March 4th, Cynthia, Chris Thela and I left at 7:00 a.m.in our three vehicles full of Car Show items for Jaycee Park in Cape Coral, Florida. We were met at the park by the show volunteers that were setting up the show car entry points to the display field. They were also placing the class markers for each class within the British, Italian and German display areas. The show was held in the south end of the park where shade trees protected us from the hot sun. Some of the cars were positioned along walking paths for spectator viewing. At the same time the St. Andrew’s Boy Scout Troop 34, who provide food for the show, were setting up their cooking area and making coffee for the early volunteers. Boy Scouts saving us from thirst & starvation throughout the day The Day of show the total number of cars on the display field were 118 within the show categories, see below. 16 British classes had 66 Cars 5 Italian classes had 18 Cars 7 German classes had 29 Cars 1 Modified class had 2 Cars 1 Race class had 3 Cars www.tswfl.org Triumphs Live On 10 March Activity Coverage – continued British Car Classes on Display www.tswfl.org Triumphs Live On 11 March Activity Coverage - continued Italian Car Classes on Display www.tswfl.org Triumphs Live On 12 March Activity Coverage - continued German Car Classes on Display BMW Central www.tswfl.org Triumphs Live On 13 March Activity Coverage - continued Porsche VW BUS www.tswfl.org Triumphs Live On 14 March Activity Coverage - continued Modified Class Race Class 2 Best Pictures of the show Taken by Jan Lindberg Taken by Tom Abbe www.tswfl.org Triumphs Live On 15 March Activity Coverage - continued B.I.G SHOW WINNERS Show Financials Show Income: $4,683 Show Expenses: $3,293.64, (Trophies, Flags/Stands, Park Rental, Audio Equipment, Sign Materials, Vests and other Show Miscellaneous) Net Profit: TSWFL Club $1,389.36 www.tswfl.org Triumphs Live On 16 March Activity Coverage - continued Show Comments from Various Clubs British Car Club The B.I.G.
