More important to AC than wins, since he began managing in 2014 in the Arizona League, he has had 19 players who’ve reached the big leagues. (Contreras managed Short-Season Tri-City in 2015.) ALL-STARS: The TinCaps were represented in June 18’s Midwest League All-Star game by Xavier Edwards, who started at second base, plus starting pitcher Ryan Weathers and reliever Henry Henry. Edwards off with a single and stole second base. He finished 1-for-3, while Henry tossed 0.1 scoreless innings. PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Infielder Tucupita Marcano was the league’s Offensive Player of the Week for the week of April 29-May 5. The 19-year-old from Venezuela was 14-for-26 (.538 average) that week as he posted an on-base percentage of .586 and a .654 slugging percentage with two walks, a hit by pitch, a double, a triple, 3 RBIs, and a stolen base. SPORTSCENTER TOP PLAY: In his first career start at first base on June 26, Luis Almanzar made a diving catch on a ball popped up in front of the plate. The catch came in at No. 2 on SportsCenter’s Top Plays. FOREVER YOUNG: The average age for a TinCaps position player thus far has been 20.2, the youngest in the Midwest League (MWL average: 21.2). The average age for a ’Caps pitcher is 20.9, also the youngest (MWL average: 21.9). This marks the 6th consecutive year Fort Wayne has had the league’s most youthful lineup, going back to 2014. The TinCaps had the youngest pitching staff in the league in 2016 and ranked tied for 2nd youngest in ’18, while ranking 2nd youngest in ’12, ’13, and ’17. TinCaps Roster By Age 19-year-olds: 8 20-year-olds: 6 21-year-olds: 3 22-year-olds: 4 23-year-olds: 3 24-year-olds: 1 FIRST HALF REVIEW: The TinCaps went 33-35 in the first half, finishing in 5th place in the 8-team Eastern Division. Their best record was at 6-2, while they were as many as 7 games below .500 at 15-22 after May 15. Offensively, the ‘Caps slashed .245/.331/.343 as they averaged 4.19 runs per game. In the 16-team MWL, Fort Wayne ranked tied for 9th in runs/game, 6th in AVG, 5th in OBP, 11th in SLG, and 9th in OPS. Their 61 stolen bases ranked 8th… On the mound, the TinCaps’ 4.02 ERA ranked 10th. They had the fewest BB/9 (2.9), tied for the 6th most K/9 (9.2), and had the best BB/K (3.12).

    2017 TinCaps Internship Positions The TinCaps are currently accepting resumes, cover letters and references from students that you find to be appropriate to submit to be included for consideration for an internship position with the 2017 Fort Wayne TinCaps. Interviews will be conducted starting in September and the expectation is to have the internship positions filled by December 15th. Please no phone calls in regards to the status of your resume. We will contact all interested candidates for either a phone interview or in-person interview, or update with a letter for your status. The following is a brief description of the different areas that the Fort Wayne TinCaps hire interns for each season. Ticket Office & Group Sales Internship – Interns will learn the TinCaps Ticketing System through the Ticket Manager and Assistant Ticket Manager. Interns will assist with potential group sales calls, individual ticket sales calls and walk-up orders. Interns will be responsible for assisting with Single Game Day On-Sale Purchase in mid-February, assisting with the Centerfield Ticket Office and assisting with the game-day ticket office employees. Interns will be responsible for developing and implementing ticket plans and group sales opportunities for the TinCaps through inside and outside sales with follow-up phone calls or emails from individual game-day ticket buyers. Interns will also be required to oversee and implement the TinCaps Birthday Party Packages. Interns will also assist with the Ball State sales class project the TinCaps work with each spring semester with follow ups on ticket orders, tracking sales and visiting the call center in Muncie, Indiana.
