BUCKLE UP YOUR CHINSTRAPS Padre rookie starters made 67 starts in 2018, the third-most of any rookie rotation behind TB (71) and MIA (73)...their 294 SO ranked second, their 324.0 IP ranked third, and they finished the campaign with a 17-26 record and a 5.00 ERA (180 ER, 324.0 IP)...Joey Lucchesi (145 SO) and Eric Lauer (100 SO) became the first pair of Padre rookies to surpass the 100- mark in the same season since Bob Shirley and in 1977...Lauer also led the majors in pickoffs (10), and the Padres combined for 20 pickoffs, tying with CHC for the most of any club... Lucchesi became the 19th rookie in Padres history to reach the 20-start plateau in a season, and Lauer became the 20th rookie to do so, marking the first time SD has had two rookies make 20-or-more starts since 1977.

WELL THAT WAS ALL-TIME In 2018, the Padres bullpen had the most (635.0), (720), the highest SO/9 IP (10.20) and the highest SO/BB ratio (3.48) of any relief crew in San Diego history...their 3.51 ERA in '18 ranked sixth in the majors and third in the NL (behind just CHC's 3.35 and MIL's 3.47 marks)...their 2.93 BB/9 IP and their 1.19 WHIP both led the NL and ranked third in the ML...Padre rookie relievers appeared in 252 games (third in ML), working 282.2 IP with 327 SO (second in ML behind TB's 469) and a NL-best 64.1 first-pitch strike percentage...the relief corps combined for 8.8 WAR, the best in team history and trailing only the Yankees (9.7) as the best in the ML this year.

¡VAMOS VILLANUEVA! Following his performance in the month of April, Christian Villanuevawas awarded the NL Rookie of the Month, becoming the first Padre to earn the accolade since Ryan Schimpf in July of 2016...in 22 games in April, he led all rookies in BA (.338), OBP (.430), SLG (.730), hits (25), HR (eight) and RBI (19)...his 20 HR were the most of any Mexican-born rookie in single campaign, and his 46 RBI tied with TEX Benji Gil's mark in 1995 for the most.

PADRES ON DECK Ranked as the No. 1 Farm System by MLB Pipeline, the "Top Organization" in baseball by and the "Top Farm System" by The Athletic, a number of Padres prospects saw banner seasons in 2018...Fernando Tatis Jr., Luis Urías and Buddy Reed represented the Padres in the Futures Game in D.C., while Francisco Mejía was also named to the World roster and represented CLE (acquired by SD five days later on 7/19)...a multitude of the top players in the organization participated in the Don Welke On Deck Classic on 9/27 at Petco Park (in which SD fell 5-3 vs. prospects from TEX)...Tatis Jr., though he sustained a season-ending left-thumb fracture on 7/19, was dubbed as The Athletic's Minor League Infielder of the Year, the Padres Best Hitting Prospect of the Year by MLB Pipeline and was named to the Yahoo! Sports' all-minor league team...Urías, who made his ML debut this season, led El Paso (AAA) in average (.296) and OBP (.398), earning Mid-Season and Post-Season All-Star honors...Josh Naylor, a Mid and Post-Season All-Star, led San Antonio (AA) in average (.297) and OBP (.383), and Logan Allen, who debuted for El Paso in August, was dubbed TL Pitcher of the Year for his 10-6 record and 2.75 ERA in 20 games (19 starts) for the Missions..., who split the season betwixt Lake Elsinore (A) and San Antonio, was named Padres Pitching Prospect of the Year by MLB Pipeline and minor league Pitcher of the Year by Yahoo! Sports...the 22-year-old righty went 7-3 in his 17 starts, posting a 2.10 ERA (21 ER, 90.0 IP) with 120 SO against eight BB and a 0.82 WHIP.

ROBERTO CLEMENTE This year, was the Padres nominee of the annual Roberto Clemente Award, and he was presented with the accolade on 9/14, prior to SD's home game vs. TEX...the award recognizes the player who best represents the game through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions.

STATCASTED The Padres finished the season with an average exit velocity of 87.6 mph, the sixth-fastest exit velocity of any NL club...their average distance logged at 399 ft., tying for fifth longest distance of any team in the NL...'s HR on 4/20 at ARI measured at 489 ft., which was the longest homer by a Padre in the Statcast Era...only COL Trevor Story's 505 ft. homer of 9/5 vs. SF was hit farther this season.

GOLD GLOVE FINALISTS On 10/25, Freddy Galvis (NL ) and Clayton Richard (NL Pitcher) were named as finalists for the Rawlings Gold Glove Award...among NL , Galvis led in (.986) and putouts (222), tied for first in innings played (1,401.0) and ranked second in total chances (630), putouts per nine innings (1.43) and starts at SS (157)...Richard led all NL in assists (38), assists per nine innings (2.16), and he ranked third in total chances per nine innings (2.50)...Richard's competition is ATL's Julio Teheran and ARI's , and Galvis' is SF's Brandon Crawford and ARI's Nick Ahmed...neither Galvis nor Richard have ever won the honor, though this season marks Galvis' third straight nomination...winners will be announced on 11/4.

THE ONLY CONSTANT IS CHANGE On 10/1, the Padres and Amarillo announced their agreement to a two-year player-development contract that will run through the 2020 season... over the last 12 seasons, the Padres had been affiliated with the Missions in San Antonio (AA) where they won three Texas League titles (2007, 2011, 2013)...the Padres also announced their player development contracts had been renewed through the 2020 season with El Paso (AAA), Lake Elsinore (A), Tri-City (A) and (A).

IN MEMORIAM The Padres and the San Diego community mourn the losses and celebrate the lives of (1935-2018), Rob Picciolo (1953-2018), Kevin Towers (1961-2018) and Don Welke (1942-2018)...on 5/12, Towers was inducted posthumously into the Padres Hall of Fame, and the Padres re-named their annual prospect game as the "Don Welke On Deck Classic" in memory of the renowned scout and front office executive...the players wore blue patches with an orange “KT” and “RP” affixed to their 1998 uniforms...upon Enberg's retirement in 2016, the Padres re-named Broadcast Booth 1 the "Dick Enberg Broadcast Booth," including a plaque with his visage at the entrance. 2018 PADRES PITCHER NOTES

SEASON SUMMARY The finished the season in first place in the Pacific Coast League Pacific Southern Division, earning the fourth straight division title in team history...they became the Padres’ first Triple-A affiliate to win four consecutive division titles...the Chihuahuas finished with a franchise-best 82-57 record, tied with the Fresno Grizzlies for the second-best record in the PCL and just one win shy of finishing tied for the best record.

The club posted a franchise record 17-game winning streak at home as well as two eight-game winning streaks, which also tied for a team record...El Paso became the first PCL club to reach the playoffs in four straight seasons since the Omaha Storm Chasers (2011-14), where they eventually fell to the Fresno Grizzlies in the best-of-five series...2018 was highlighted with many accomplishments, including when INF Carlos Asuaje hit for the second cycle in El Paso history on 6/17.

LEAGUE LEADERS Several Chihuahuas finished near the top in many offensive categories in the PCL, including INF Luis Urías, who finished the season sixth in runs (83), hits (133) and on-base percentage (.398), fifth in walks (67), tied for eighth in triples (seven), and tied for 11th with teammate CBrett Nicholas in doubles (30)...Nicholas also finished tied for eighth in RBI (83) and INF Javy Guerra ranked tied for fifth in triples (nine).

Among PCL pitchers, RHP Brett Kennedy ranked tied for fourth in wins (10) while RHPWalker Lockett finished third in lowest BB/9 IP ratio (2.23), fifth in highest SO/9 IP ratio (7.97), tied for 10th in games started (23) and strikeouts (118) and tied for 11th in innings pitched (133.1)...RHP Jonathan Aro and LHP Kyle McGrath both finished tied for fifth in holds (9).

SEASON SUMMARY The finished the season in second place in the Texas League South after finishing in second place in the first half and finishing in fourth place in the second half…the Missions advanced to postseason play in consecutive seasons, defeating Corpus Christi in the Texas League Division series before falling to Tulsa in the Championship Series…LHP Logan Allen and RHP Jason Jester combined to throw the Missions’ 13th no-hitter in franchise history on 5/31 at Tulsa.

LEAGUE LEADERS OF Josh Naylor headlined many TL offensive categories, including tied for second in hits (149), second in walks (64), tied for third in on-base percentage (.383), fifth in OPS (.830), tied for fifth in total bases (224), tied for fifth in batting average (.297), sixth in RBI (74), seventh in at bats (501), eighth in games (128), eighth in runs scored (72) and tied for ninth in homers with teammate INF (17)...INF Fernando Tatis Jr. finished second in (.507) and OPS (.862) and fifth in runs scored (77)...France also finished first in hit-by-pitches (25) and fifth in RBI (77) while CAustin Allen ranked tied for second in total bases (228), second in SLG (.506) and OPS (.857), tied for third in doubles (31) and fifth in HR (22).

LHP Logan Allen also finished among TL leaders in several categories, including first in WHIP (1.05), first in opponent average (.205), second in SO (125), second in ERA (2.75), tied for third in wins (10) and tied for fourth in innings pitched (121.0)...RHP Jason Jester finished tied for fifth in games (40) while RHP finished tied for fifth in games started (22) and fifth in strikeouts (101)...LHP Brad Wieck finished fifth in saves (10), while RHP Rowan Wick led TL pitchers with 11 holds.
