After the great congress in Bucharest with the slogan «Give and take – share your experience» we are looking forward to share our experience in the Valencia congress centre, a famous buildung by Norman Forster. The congress president Isidro Martínez Casas together with Salvi Prat Fab- regat and María Soledad Montón Condón as well as members of the Society’s section and edu- cation committee have worked out an exciting programme that will update you on the newest knowlegde in trauma and emergency surgery care according to the congress slogan «Bringing the light». For this congress some new session formats have been integrated beside the instructional lectures and presentations of scientific papers such as case presentations with panel discussions, controversies with pro and con presentations as well as debate sessions. Futhermore, there are also poster walks with a distinguished faculty. It is also my pleasure to welcome the former ESTES president Ingo Marzi to give the Otmar Trentz Lecture as well as the ESTES honorary member Selman Uranues to give the Sten Lennquist Lecture. It is a great success that our society with the focus on the integrated approach in emergency and trauma care has been able to strengthen the cooperation with different industrial partners. Our congress should also function as a platform for the interactivity with other international societies and associations represented in Valencia by different guest symposia. A warm welcome belongs to our collegues from India representing this country as guest nation of ESTES in Valencia. I hope that you will feel welcome in Valencia and learn not only new solutions for your daily activity in acute care, emergency and trauma surgery, but hopefully you will also meet some new friends from around the world and find some time to enjoy the third largest city of Spain. I look forward to seeing you in Valencia for an unforgettable congress.
