PIEMONTE CRISTINALUCCA En Ministero per i Beni e le Attività Culturali Direzione Regionale per i Beni Culturali e Paesaggistici del Piemonte _________ EUROPEAN HERITAGE DAYS 2010 – “ITALY: TREASURE OF EUROPE” WORKSHOP 1 OCTOBER 2010 “LANDSCAPE POLICY AND DEVELOPMENT POLICY: A CULTURAL CHALLENGE AT ALL LEVELS OF TERRITORIAL STRATEGY” CRISTINA LUCCA Superintendency for Cultural Heritage and Landscape, Provinces of Turin, Asti, Cuneo, Biella and Vercelli The situation in Piedmont: actions undertaken by the Piedmont Regional Directorate for Cultural Heritage and Landscape, the Superintendency for Architectural Heritage and Landscape for the Provinces of Torino, Asti, Cuneo, Biella and Vercelli, and the Superintendency for Architectural Heritage and Landscape for the Provinces of Novara, Alessandria, and Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, in cooperation with the Region of Piedmont. It is important to first present the process for the Regional Landscape Plan (PPR), now under development with the Region of Piedmont. PIANO PAESAGGISTICO REGIONALE The Law for Cultural Heritage and Landscape (DL 42/2004 and amendments) and its derivative national regulations, particularly Articles 143-145, provide detailed guidance on the contents and procedures to be adopted in developing and approving the PPR. Following an understanding as stipulated under Article 143, Clause 2, the Piedmont Regional Directorate for Landscape Heritage, with the support of the Directorate General for Landscape, Fine Arts, Architecture and Contemporary Art and the three superintendencies involved - Superintendency for Architectural Heritage and Landscape for the Provinces of Torino, Asti, Cuneo, Biella and Vercelli; Superintendency for Architectural Heritage and Landscape for the Provinces of Novara, Alessandria, and Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, Superintendency for Archaeological Heritage of Piedmont and the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities – have all participated in drafting the Regional Landscape Plan. The aim of the most concerted actions has been to articulate the Techingnical Norms for Implementation of the Plan, and define the criteria for documenting, delimiting and mapping the structures and areas declared of significant public interest under Articles 136 and 137, DL 42/2004, with amendments. Effective of the date of the adoption of the Regional Landscape Plan under regional law (DGR 53-11975, 04/08/2009), the objectives for landscape preservation are held as partially achieved, through the protection concerning landscape heritage as offered by the plan’s provisions. The Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and the Region of Piedmont are now continuing the process of joint planning, to define those parts still to be completed prior to definitive approval. The Region of Piedmont has also enacted a law (LR 14, 06/06/2008) that complements implementation of the European Landscape Convention, by introducing financing for actions in support of landscape and providing incentive for quality in projects through a prize for landscape excellence. Landscape, Verbania, Lago Maggiore Agricultural landscape, Cuneo plains Since 2005, the ministry, with the Region of Piedmont and the relevant provinces (Alessandria, Asti, Cuneo) has supported and led a project to obtain UNESCO listing for the “Characteristic wine-growing landscapes of Piedmont: Langhe, Roero and Monferrato”. This has involved preparation of a nomination file, now nearing completion, and development of understandings with the municipal administrations of the “core zone”. Following an awareness-raising programme on landscape conservation themes with the local population, there has been interesting work with the municipal administrations to develop specific variations in their official regulatory plans in order to include the directions established under the UNESCO candidature, and to introduce guidelines in municipal building regulations that will improve the architectural quality of restoration and construction projects. These very specific guidelines were discussed at the Technical Committee and, following regional law DGR 87-13582 (16/03/2010), with the intervention of the provinces concerned, have now been the object of local meetings. Drafting of this agreement followed on the adhesion of the Town of Biella and Province of Biella to the European Network of Local and Regional Authorities for the Implementation of the European Landscape Convention (ENELC), and was the fruit of profound reflection on landscape quality as element of cultural and territorial identity. In recent months, the presentation of projects for solar power parks in the Province of Asti has given rise to the spontaneous formation of committees by the municipal authorities affected, with a request for implementation of procedures for declaring “significant public Piazza San Giovanni, 2 – 10122 Torino Tel. +39.011.5220.415 fax +39.011.5220.433 [email protected] 3 www.piemonte.beniculturali.it Ministero per i Beni e le Attività Culturali Direzione Regionale per i Beni Culturali e Paesaggistici del Piemonte _________ interest”, with a copy forwarded to ENELC European headquarters. There are a total of three proposals concerning landscapes of San Marzanatto (Town of Asti), Isola Villa (Town of Isola d’Asti) and Schierano (Town of Passerano Marmorito). The requests were presented at public meetings intended to ensure wide participation in the initiative. One of the legendary winemakers of the world, Bruno Giacosa crafted the most prestigious single-vineyard Barolo and Barbaresco wines during a career that spanned nearly eight decades. He joined the family business at the age of 15, representing the third generation of his Langhe winemaking family. Giacosa’s unfailing pursuit of perfection, his unrivaled palate and his intimate knowledge of vineyards in the Langhe quickly drew recognition and helped establish Piedmont as a leading wine region. In 1980, Giacosa began to acquire prime parcels in Serralunga d’Alba, La Morra and Barbaresco to produce wines that are rightly regarded as the finest expressions of Nebbiolo. His legacy rests with daughter Bruna, who continues to uphold her father’s winemaking philosophy to respect traditional techniques while using the best of modern technology. The goal is for each distinguished site to produce articulate, unique wines. 2019 ROERO ARNEIS DOCG Grape variety: Arneis Vineyards: Select vineyards in the villages of Vezza d’Alba, Monteu Roero, Santo Stefano Roero, Canale, Montà d’Alba Age of vines: 19-26 years Yield: 70 hL/ha Vinification: Stainless steel vats Length of fermentation: 25-30 days Malolactic fermentation: not developed Refinement: 4 months in stainless steel vats + 1 month in bottle Bottling: February 2020 Alcohol: 13.5% vol. In 25 this paper, we conducted a systematic revision of the Troglohyphantes species of the Italian Alps, 26 with a special focus on the Lucifuga complex, including the description of two new species (T. 27 lucifer n. sp. and T. apenninicus n. sp). In addition, we provided new diagnostic drawings of the 28 holotype of T. henroti (Henroti complex) and established three new synonymies within the genus. 29 The molecular analysis of the animal DNA barcode confirms the validity of this method of 30 identification of the Alpine Troglohyphantes and provides additional support for the morphology- 31 based species complexes. Finally, we revised the known distribution range of additional 32 Troglohyphantes species, as well as other poorly known alpine cave-dwelling spiders.

SUGGESTIONS FOR POSSIBLE SHORT TRIPS To get an introduction about the area near the conference: Why You Really Should Visit Italy's Outstanding Barolo Wine Region https://www.forbes.com/sites/catherinesabino/2018/10/28/why-you-really-should-visit-italys- outstanding-barolo-wine-region/#7bd3de632f89 Note that the Langa district is best visited by car. Because of its territory, the district is not accessible by train (except for Alba, which is connected to the railway system). However, driving in the Langa district should not be a problem since it is in the countryside and not in a big city. For reference, Bra and Alba have ~30,000 people each. Some of the villages referenced below are much smaller: Pollenzo (a subdivision of Bra) and Barolo have only ~700 people. Furthermore, besides the picturesque hills and the historic castles and buildings, this area is also about food and wine. So you can pair some of the suggestions below with the restaurant suggestions also available on the conference website. There are also several wine tours that are normally organized in the area and, besides the suggestions below, you can just search online for what suits your interest. 1) Tour of the Barolo Langa district: Barolo, La Morra, and Verduno Note: Requires a car. Also, distances are short and so one can break these itineraries into smaller ones as desired. Barolo (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barolo,_Piedmont) is the town in the middle of the vineyards of nebbiolo grapes that produce the famous wine of the same name. It is a medieval village developed at the foot of the castle.

IRSOIL 2021 Intercomparison of soil radon concentration measurements 1th National Intercomparison, 8-9 July 2021 Valle del Cervo - Riserva Naturale della Bessa (BI) FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT INTRODUCTION Soil radon measurements, born as a practice closely linked to research and scientific curiosity, has managed, over the years, to carve out a more technical role, assuming relevance for its practical implications: measurement can be a useful tool for the classification of radon risk areas. In Italy, Legislative Decree n. 101/2020, transposition of 59/Euratom/2013, has undoubtedly sparked new interest on this subject. Soil radon measurements involves both radiation protection field and geophysical aspects of great interest. For some time now european researchers and freelancers met periodically to test methodologies, techniques and instruments together, thus showing great interest in these evaluations. Assoradon and AIRP therefore believed that the time was ripe to propose, also in Italy, an exercise of field measurements that would allow laboratories, both public and private, to compare their techniques and methodologies. The intercomparison is organized in collaboration with ARPA Piemonte and ARPA Valle d'Aosta The setting for this event is the province of Biella, the smallest province of Piemonte, with its famous “Valle del Cervo” that is probably the place with the highest natural radioactivity in Italy. Results of the intercomparison will be processed in the months following the event: a technical report will be drawn up and published on

LANGHE DENOMINAZIONE DI ORIGINE CONTROLLATA ROSSO 2014 Selezioni Varietali The best match is the one where each player contributes his own talents to the game. That’s why when I think about Langhe Rosso I imagine a soccer team! Nebbiolo is the team captain, it emerges for its structure and elegance. Barbera has got personality and enthusiasm, while Dolcetto supports the team with its fruit and freshness. Freisa….is like Gattuso…decisive, but never let’s down the guard. Albarossa is the goalkeeper: even though we do not notice him, without him you cannot play. And then Pinot, the playmaker: capable and quick, a real expert in dribbling, who, with his style, brings adrenaline to the match. All together they are a dream team. Isidoro Vaira DESCRIPTION: Our Langhe Rosso is a hug from Piedmont. It’s an invitation to explore its different varieties and to get to know its personality. From young vineyards, it is a fruity delicately complex wine: an ideal companion at the table. VARIETY: Predominately Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto. Smaller quantities of Freisa, Albarossa, Pinot noir. VINTAGE: Fresh vintage and extremely slow ripening, which allowed us to capture the expression of terroir and minerality of all varieties. A mild winter and an early spring, with early vegetative growth. The summer was characterized by good water retention in the soils and cool breezy nights. Very late harvest. HARVEST AND WINEMAKING: Each vineyard is harvested when it reaches the perfect ripeness. The varieties are vinified one by one, to express their personality and uniqueness. AGING: 18-24 months partially in steel and then in pièces of first, second and third passage.
