SUGGESTIONS FOR POSSIBLE SHORT TRIPS To get an introduction about the area near the conference: Why You Really Should Visit Italy's Outstanding Barolo Wine Region https://www.forbes.com/sites/catherinesabino/2018/10/28/why-you-really-should-visit-italys- outstanding-barolo-wine-region/#7bd3de632f89 Note that the Langa district is best visited by car. Because of its territory, the district is not accessible by train (except for Alba, which is connected to the railway system). However, driving in the Langa district should not be a problem since it is in the countryside and not in a big city. For reference, Bra and Alba have ~30,000 people each. Some of the villages referenced below are much smaller: Pollenzo (a subdivision of Bra) and Barolo have only ~700 people. Furthermore, besides the picturesque hills and the historic castles and buildings, this area is also about food and wine. So you can pair some of the suggestions below with the restaurant suggestions also available on the conference website. There are also several wine tours that are normally organized in the area and, besides the suggestions below, you can just search online for what suits your interest. 1) Tour of the Barolo Langa district: Barolo, La Morra, and Verduno Note: Requires a car. Also, distances are short and so one can break these itineraries into smaller ones as desired. Barolo (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barolo,_Piedmont) is the town in the middle of the vineyards of nebbiolo grapes that produce the famous wine of the same name. It is a medieval village developed at the foot of the castle.

  • Hydrothermal Circulation in the Acqui Terme District, Tertiary Piedmont Basin (Nvv Italy)
Bulletin d'HydrogPologie No 17 (1999) Centre d'Hydrogiologie, Universiti de Neuchlitel EDITIONS PETER LWG Hydrothermal circulation in the Acqui Terme district, Tertiary Piedmont Basin (NvvItaly) by *Massirno Verdoya, Vincenzo Pasquale & Paolo Chiozzi Dipartimento per lo Studio del Territorio e delle sue Risorse, Universiti di Genova, Viale Benedetto XV, 5 1-16132 Genova, Italy. E-mail: [email protected] ABSTRACT We investigated the deep hydrothermal circulation of the Acqui Terme district, Tertiary Piedmont Basin (TPB), which is characterised by hot springs, with a maximum temperature of about 70 "C. A thermal gradient increasing from about 70 to 90 mK m'l towards the hot spring area was determined in two conduction-dominated boreholes. Calculations on convection-dominated boreholes again yielded anomalously high thermal gradients compared to those expected for TPB. The hydrothermal circulation mainly affects the crystalline basement beneath the impermeable sedimentary cover. The maximum depth of the hydrothermal system is 3400 m, and the top of the permeable zone ruled by convection is at a depth of about 1000 m. Models of ascending flow show that the water rises from the reservoir through a relatively narrow fracture zone. KEYWORDS Geothermal system, medium enthalpy reservoir, convective heat transfer, hot springs 1. Introduction The Acqui Terme district, located in the Tertiary Piedmont Basin (TPB), NW Italy, is known for its thermal springs since historical times (Fig. 1). The most recent geochemical and geothermal investigations are by BORTOLAMI et al. (1983) and PASQUALE et al. (1986), respectively. The latter presented the first thermal data for the southwestern sector of the Po plain, with particular reference to the Acqui hydrothermal system.

  • LANGHE DENOMINAZIONE DI ORIGINE CONTROLLATA ROSSO 2014 Selezioni Varietali
LANGHE DENOMINAZIONE DI ORIGINE CONTROLLATA ROSSO 2014 Selezioni Varietali The best match is the one where each player contributes his own talents to the game. That’s why when I think about Langhe Rosso I imagine a soccer team! Nebbiolo is the team captain, it emerges for its structure and elegance. Barbera has got personality and enthusiasm, while Dolcetto supports the team with its fruit and freshness. Freisa….is like Gattuso…decisive, but never let’s down the guard. Albarossa is the goalkeeper: even though we do not notice him, without him you cannot play. And then Pinot, the playmaker: capable and quick, a real expert in dribbling, who, with his style, brings adrenaline to the match. All together they are a dream team. Isidoro Vaira DESCRIPTION: Our Langhe Rosso is a hug from Piedmont. It’s an invitation to explore its different varieties and to get to know its personality. From young vineyards, it is a fruity delicately complex wine: an ideal companion at the table. VARIETY: Predominately Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto. Smaller quantities of Freisa, Albarossa, Pinot noir. VINTAGE: Fresh vintage and extremely slow ripening, which allowed us to capture the expression of terroir and minerality of all varieties. A mild winter and an early spring, with early vegetative growth. The summer was characterized by good water retention in the soils and cool breezy nights. Very late harvest. HARVEST AND WINEMAKING: Each vineyard is harvested when it reaches the perfect ripeness. The varieties are vinified one by one, to express their personality and uniqueness. AGING: 18-24 months partially in steel and then in pièces of first, second and third passage.
