SUPPORT/CRITICISM EXPECTED

Some criticism can be expected from the Opposition over the replacement of Dr John Trace as Chairman by Mr Manfred Cross.

Such criticism can be answered on the basis that Mr Cross has an extensive and impressive record of involvement with public libraries at a national level as a member of the Council of the National Library of Australia for 12 years, of which five years (1984-1989) were spent as Deputy Chairman, and for an extended period in 1989, Mr Cross was Acting Chairman of the Council.
