TfL Corporate Archives Research Guides Research Guide No 18: Transport for London and Predecessors Non-Operational Premises Post 1933 The establishment of the London Passenger Transport Board in 1933 heralded the unification of the majority of London’s rail, bus and tram operations under one operational body. From this point onwards the organisation underwent numerous identity and remit changes (London Transport Executive, London Transport Board, London Regional Transport, and London Transport) to its current incarnation as Transport for London. Along the way it created and subsumed subsidiary companies and previously independent undertakings. All the while it has continued to deliver daily transportation services to millions of workers, tourists, and city inhabitants. In order to do this, countless personnel have been employed in varying capacities and all of these have to be housed in various locations in London. This guide acts as an introductory resource for the research of many of these locations. It only lists those buildings and facilities for which the Corporate Archives has resources in its collections, and does not address tube stations, bus stations, etc unless they also fulfil an administrative role. In this sense it is a guide to non-operational premises. A longer index is available from the Corporate Archives on request, but the additional properties listed do not have accompanying resource material to be found in the Corporate Archives. If you would like further information or would like to consult any of the documentation listed please contact the TfL Corporate Archives on [email protected] BUILDING NAME OFFICIAL ADDRESS DEPARTMENTS DATES CORPORATE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION BUILDING HOUSED ACTIVE ARCHIVES CODE RESOURCES LT No. Information Governance 2013-03-18 Page 2 of 45 BUILDING NAME OFFICIAL ADDRESS DEPARTMENTS DATES CORPORATE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION BUILDING HOUSED ACTIVE ARCHIVES CODE RESOURCES LT No. ACTON, ET 123 Gunnersbury Apprentice 1975- LT001634/104 By 1990's had become Engineering Training APPRENTICE Lane, W3 Training present LT000660/201 Centre; Safety & Engineering Training Centre TRAINING CENTRE LT000649/021 by 1998.
