Exploring Films About Ethical Leadership: Can Lessons Be Learned?
EXPLORING FILMS ABOUT ETHICAL LEADERSHIP: CAN LESSONS BE LEARNED? By Richard J. Stillman II University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center Public Administration and Management Volume Eleven, Number 3, pp. 103-305 2006 104 DEDICATED TO THOSE ETHICAL LEADERS WHO LOST THEIR LIVES IN THE 9/11 TERROIST ATTACKS — MAY THEIR HEORISM BE REMEMBERED 105 TABLE OF CONTENTS Preface 106 Advancing Our Understanding of Ethical Leadership through Films 108 Notes on Selecting Films about Ethical Leadership 142 Index by Subject 301 106 PREFACE In his preface to James M cG regor B urns‘ Pulitzer–prizewinning book, Leadership (1978), the author w rote that ―… an im m ense reservoir of data and analysis and theories have developed,‖ but ―w e have no school of leadership.‖ R ather, ―… scholars have worked in separate disciplines and sub-disciplines in pursuit of different and often related questions and problem s.‖ (p.3) B urns argued that the tim e w as ripe to draw together this vast accumulation of research and analysis from humanities and social sciences in order to arrive at a conceptual synthesis, even an intellectual breakthrough for understanding of this critically important subject. Of course, that was the aim of his magisterial scholarly work, and while unquestionably impressive, his tome turned out to be by no means the last word on the topic. Indeed over the intervening quarter century, quite to the contrary, we witnessed a continuously increasing outpouring of specialized political science, historical, philosophical, psychological, and other disciplinary studies with clearly ―no school of leadership‖with a single unifying theory emerging. -

The Fast est Growing DVD, CD and Blu- ray Ret ail Cat alog Connecting Content with Consumers Volume 8 Issue 10 Turner Classic Movies dazzled film fans of all ages last week in Los Angeles with the ninth hosting of the TCM Classic Film Festival. Thousands of classic cinema passionate attendees were feted with over 80 films joined by celebrity hosts including Mel Brooks, Eve Marie Saint, Jeff Bridges, Buck Henry and casts from "Romeo and Juliet" and "Animal House'. Wowing the crowds, Martin Scorsese was awarded the first Robert Osborne Award by Leonardo DiCaprio, recognizing the directors commitment to the preservation of motion pictures. The TCM Classic Film Festival continues to be one of the most anticipated events in the year for watching the classic films as they were originally seen in the great movie theaters. I enjoy attending with my fellow film "geeks" for non-stop film, trivia and learning more about the creativity behind these movies. Response to This Article About the Hasbro/Discovery Hub Shift In
Response to this article about the Hasbro/Discovery Hub shift in power...which turned into another my long-winded, thoughtful rants: http://online.wsj.com/articles/discovery-to-take-control-of-the-hub-network- 1410979842 Well, that's...somewhat shocking. From what I can tell, the Hasbro/Discovery partnership in The Hub has been an amazing success. I watch the channel almost every day. Most of its programming is--and has been, for the past 3.5 years--excellent. From the original series (FiM, Pound Puppies, Strawberry Shortcake, LPS, Dan Vs., Aquabats Super Show, Family Game Night, Care Bears, Transformers, Haunting Hour), to all the other wonderful shows/sitcoms (oh my goodness!! Tiny Toon Adventures, Animaniacs, Goosebumps, Laverne & Shirley, Happy Days, Mork & Mindy, Step By Step, Who's the Boss, Family Ties, The Facts of Life, Sister, Sister, Sabrina, Atomic Betty, etc.), to the extremely well-chosen family movies (I loved it when they aired the Homeward Bound films, All Dogs Go to Heaven 2...today I saw Spaceballs...and they've just made so many other great movie picks every season.) They've been an outstanding example of listening to your viewers and giving them what they want. Even their misfires and middle-of-the-road shows are more than bearable (SheZow, animated Sabrina, Teenage Fairytale Dropouts, Kid President, Parents Just Don't Understand, and such.) If Hasbro were to grow dissatisfied with controlling six hours of its toy-based cartoons daily on Hub (which seems like a fair deal they've cut, tbh), and moved them over to Cartoon Network or Disney...well, at least the shows would still continue on, and be a MASSIVE boon to either of those channels. -

Twentieth Century Fox: 1935-1965
The Museum of Modern Art For Immediate Release June 1990 Twentieth Century Fox: 1935-1965 July 1 - September 11, 1990 This summer, The Museum of Modern Art pays tribute to Twentieth Century Fox with a retrospective of over ninety films made between 1935 and 1965. Opening on July 1, 1990, TWENTIETH CENTURY FOX: 1935-1965 traces three key decades in the history of the studio, celebrating the talents of the artists on both sides of the cameras who shaped this period. The exhibition continues through September 11. Formed in 1915, the Fox Film Corporation merged in 1935 with the much younger Twentieth Century to launch a major new studio. Under the supervision of Darryl F. Zanuck, Twentieth Century Fox developed a new house style, emphasizing epic biographies such as John Ford's The Prisoner of Shark Island (1936) and Allan Dwan's Suez (1938) and snappy urban pictures such as Sidney Lanfield's Hake Up and Live (1937) and Roy Del Ruth's Thanks a Million (1935). The studio also featured such fresh screen personalities as Tyrone Power, Alice Faye, and Shirley Temple. From this time on, the studio masterfully anticipated and shaped the tastes of the movie-going public. During World War II, Twentieth Century Fox made its mark with a series of exuberant Technicolor musicals featuring such actresses as Betty Grable and Carmen Miranda. After the war, the studio shifted focus and began to highlight other genres including films noirs such as Edmund Goulding's Nightmare Alley (1947) and Otto Preminger's Where the Sidewalk Ends (1950), wry satirical films such as Joseph L.
