BBG Bulletin Issue 25 ISSUE 25 9 June 2017 On Sunday 4 June twenty girls and two members of staff successfully completed the Race for Life at Temple Newsam. The weather was perfect and we had lots of support from family and friends. All their hard work training weekly for the last 5 months has paid off. Each student that attended the event was running not only as part of the BBG Team, but also for their own personal reasons for taking part in the Race for Life. A great morning was had by all and preparations are being made ready for next year. We would like to say a massive thank you to all those that attended to support us on the day and to those that have kindly sponsored our team. We have raised a staggering £2768.50 and the donations are still coming in. Congratulations girls on your hard work and commitment to a great cause. #ThisGirlCan As we reported last week the Year 11 celebrated the end of their compulsory education via the Graduation. Students, parents and carers enjoyed an afternoon with a fantastic performances from Millie Firth, Hollie Smith and Lucy Ormondroyd. Speeches from Mrs Luffman, Mrs Brazier and the Class of 2017 Valedictorian, Jenson Wadsworth. We had an inspirational address from guest speaker and Triple Winter Olympian Nicola Minichiello. Students were awarded Graduation certificates and Subject Recognition Awards were presented to students who had demonstrated significant progress, a growth mindset or a significant attitude to learning. Subject Recognition Awards Maths – Leah Asquith-Watson MFL – Chloe Burton Geography – Daisy Dopson English – Bethan Enstock Computer Science – Ella Frost DT– Hollie Haughin PE – Elliott Howard Religious Studies – Tulsi Kalyan Art – Lucy Ormondroyd Science – Alex Smith-Posser Music – Daniel Thompson Home Economics – Molly Thompson History – Caitlyn Turner The Ellie Bramham Award – Hollie Smith BBG in the news ISSUE 18 7th April 2017 You will recollect form our Easter edition that we have been nationally recognised for our 2016 outcomes. We were delighted to attend the Educational Outcomes Award Evening on Wednesday with other award winning schools in the North. The event enabled us to network with other high preforming schools and discuss some of the key issues we face in education. The award that was presented placed BBG Academy in the top 20% of schools nationally for progress. We were excited to share the evening with our Mothership Academy, Rodillian, who achieved an award for finishing in the top 10% for progress and top 20% for attainment nationally. It was lovely to invite Mr Walsh, who has been recently accepted on the prestigious SSAT Leadership Legacy Project, and Mr Bush, back from his current position at John Smeaton Academy, to accept the award Sue Williamson, Chief Executive of the SSAT led the address and presentation. subject news . COMPUTER SCIENCE The Year 9 Computer Science Classes have recently undertaken a course in Javascript, a language commonly used to create interactive effects within web browsers. The course involved learning the syntax, and then solving problems to gain points. The year as a whole did fantastically well – and many are now in a good position to create an attractive, professional website using HTML, CSS and Javascript. The students shown in the tables below excelled in this area, and used complex commands and loops to create fantastic code. Their skills in this area will help them in the GCSE Computer Science course the majority of them are about to start. Student Name Points Student Name Points Nathan Wood 96,473 Ben Dixon 62,199 Harvey Gudgeon 81,851 Roman Jackiw 61,153 Zack Jagger 79,405 Jack Hudson 61,079 Sophie Aveyard 70,149 Jessica Longfield 60,163 Alex Sheldon 65,186 Ethan Armitage 59,450 Shakeel Surti 64,950 Joe Armitage 58,472 Olivia Dwyer 64,545 Connor Benton 56,179 James Millar 63,809 Special congratulations to Nathan, Zack, and Harvey for being top of their class! One notable name missing from the three class list leader boards is Will Nield from 9DWH. There was little point in Will attempting the tasks – as his current skills are already beyond any course on the Khan Academy website. Will has been working on a web-based game, using all of the above languages – plus a couple of others. It will not be too long until he is launching his game based website on the World Wide Web. Watch this space! . On Monday we saw the return of the BBG Talent Show! There was an outstanding array of acts from dancers to singers, musicians and magicians. The night kicked off with an introduction of our special guest judges by Miss Sanderson. Head judge was Brent Read, who is Head of Music at Penistone Grammar School in South Yorkshire. We also had the pleasure of our very own Mrs Marshall and Mr Bradbrook to support with the hard decision of placing the acts. Each act was judged out of 10 with places given to the winner, runner up, third position and the most entertaining act. Isobel Eklid in Year 9 blew everyone away with her version of ‘With You’ from the musical Ghost to claim first place. She gave a breathtaking performance with confidence and passion moving everyone in the audience. In second place was Ryan Haughin in Year 8 with his debut magic act. Ryan, a member of the Bradford Magic Circle left the crowd astonished and stunned by his effortless display, gaining a well-deserved standing ovation. Third place went to the sister duo Beth (Year 9) and Emma Maleham (Year 7) with their extraordinary and beautiful contemporary dance piece. Their fabulous and well thought out choreography captivated the audience’s eye and demonstrating their close relationship through complex contact work. Finally, most entertaining went to Chloe Wood and Rosie Warnett in Year 8 with their original Segway piece. The entertaining duo had the audience laughing from start to finish with their comedy filled act impressively performed entirely without falling off! In addition to the above acts we also had a wide variety of others performers who delivered their pieces with the upmost professionalism, confidence and expressive skills. Each worked tirelessly with resilience and determination in order to perfect their act leading up the night and rose to the challenge, giving an unforgettable performance in front of a full, supportive audience of friends, family and staff of BBG. Performers included: Mel Gray, Ruby Fletcher, Chloe Bartlett, Mollie Yeomans, Elisa Galligan, The 7 Dance Academy, April Hough, Amy Kelly, Nimah Spencer-Brooke, Daisy Powell, Jasmine Dunne, Amelia Smith-Prosser, Amelia Scully, Rosie Warnett, Chloe Wood, Ryan Haughin, Olivia Jones, Eleanor Needham, Millie Reid, Isabel Reid, Sienna Shaw, Ysabel Pinder, Harriet Cross, Harriet Mackrill, Amiee Parker, Charlotte Smith, Erin Walls, Lucy Hudson, Ebony Ramm, Zoe Cole, Olivia Dwyer and Olivia Sagar. Congratulation to all the students involved; they were a credit to the Academy and we look forward to seeing some more of their outstanding work very soon! subject news MATHS PUZZLE OF THE MFL MATTERS WEEK Year 10 German Stars. At the start of the year Mrs Deighton enrolled all the students studying German onto the GCSE course Memrise (an excellent online learning site) and set them a target of completing 1% each week. There are 1477 words in total that they could be tested on in the exams so it was important to make an early start on the learning. Mrs Deighton has been very impressed with their commitment to this so far and is delighted to say that five of the students have already completed the course a year in advance. Congratulations to Marcus Hanson, Nadya Three small equilateral triangles of the same size are cut Longstaff, Orla McAndrew, Georgia Harris and Mia from the corners of a larger equilateral triangle with sides Wilson. The impact this has had can already been of length 6cm, as shown. seen in lessons. All that is left to do is to continue to review the words to keep them in your long-term The sum of the perimeters of the small equilateral triangles memory! is the same as the perimeter of the hexagon. Our ref: 0980/19 I am sending this request under the Freedom of Information Act on Tuesday February 12th 2019 to ask for the following information about knife possession offences broken down by age, gender and year. (I am most interested in people under 18 carrying knives). Please provide the following information: 1. The number of knife / bladed instrument possession offences for a) 2014 b) 2015 c) 2016 d) 2017 e) 2018 f) please provide a breakdown by gender. 2. For the same time period and giving the figures for each year - how many of those offenders were under 18? Please include: a) the exact age for each person under 18. b) the gender of each person under 18. c) whether the offender was caught carrying a knife or bladed object on school / educational premises? If possible, please provide the name of the school / establishment. d) A breakdown by sentence / punishment – i.e. people cautioned, reprimanded or convicted. My report is focusing on the number of women under 18 caught carrying knifes. So the gender breakdown is really important, as are the exact ages for those caught who are under 18. If including convictions is an over cost response – then omit those from your response and proceed with this amended request. Please see the attached tables which contain the requested information. West Yorkshire Police are committed to prosecuting anyone found to be possessing or using a knife or firearm. The work of our partners and community based projects is important, as is the vigilance of families who believe one of their relatives may carry weapons.

  • WEEKLY WORD No
WEEKLY WORD No. 5 18.05.20 Dear Parents/Carers and Students We love hearing how our students are doing, please keep sending in your updates to Miss Halliday by email to [email protected]. Stay home and stay safe. FROM MRS LORD Hi everyone! I hope you are all staying safe and well, and coping with lockdown as best you can. I’m very lucky to have had lots of contact with people through my role, but I am still missing ‘normal’ school life and I can’t wait to be able to see everyone properly again. Although I’ve been busy working, I have been trying to keep myself mentally and physically on form. I’ve been on lots of dog walks (sometimes the cat comes too, which is very amusing), taken part in some charity events and have discovered I’m quite good at virtual quizzes. I hope you are looking after yourselves and your families. Don’t forget that you are all part of the Honley family and we’re only an email or a phone call away if you need us. Keep sending us photos, videos and messages, they cheer all us teachers up! Take care, bye for now Mrs Lord [email protected] FROM MRS BUTLER Hello 11A (A for Awesome) I hope you're all staying home, staying safe and in good health! I've been using the last few weeks of my maternity leave to spend quality time with my boys. We've done lots of crafting, baking (and eating) and walking in this lovely sunshine we've been having - I hope you've all managed to get outside too.

The choice of a Christian name for the new baby is one of the challenges of many a father and mother. Fashions change and what was acceptable years ago is no longer, and vice versa. Families require the continuance of certain family names in each generation. There is pressure to be "different” or to imitate the ‘Celeb’ of the day.
