The swathes of golden daffodils, the white of blossom are nature’s reminder that, after all the gloom and wet of earlier months, at last there is a new life and a hope for all of us. Death is not the end but a gateway to a new life with God who made us. Easter is the time we recall the Garden where Mary Magdalene saw the risen Lord but thought he was the gardener. But as soon as he called her by name she knew it was him. Easter is when we hear of the Upper Room where the frightened disciples were behind locked doors. The Lord enters with the Easter greeting of Peace. Easter is the time when two disciples are walking from Jerusalem to Emmaus, pondering the events of the day just passed. Their eyes are closed as a stranger comes near and they begin to tell him of what has happened. It is time for a meal, they invite the stranger to say the grace. And as they see him break the bread they recognise that these are the hands of the Lord with whom they had shared bread at his last supper. He was known in the breaking of the bread. Easter gives us hope that as the Lord has risen and as we have been baptised into his death into life with him so at the end of our days we shall be given access to his presence in heaven. He has indeed gone before to prepare a place for us. Easter gives us hope that we shall meet him as we travel along the road as a follower of him who is the Way, the Truth and the Life. At the Eucharist he has told us to break bread and pour wine in remembrance of him. The Ukrainian church tells the story of Prince Vladimir of Kiev who on becoming a Christian in 988 sent out emissaries to Constantinople to discover the liturgy of his new faith. There they went to the Church of Santa Sophia, the grandest church of the East. 1 After experiencing the chant and the music, the icons – but above all the Presence – the emissaries sent word to the prince: “We did not know whether we were in heaven or on earth. Never have we seen such beauty. We cannot describe it but this much we can say: there God dwells among mankind.” May God bless our Eastertide as we praise God for the Lord’s Resurrection. Pray that we may be conscious of our continuing fellowship not only with our friends here on earth but also with all those who have gone before us, all those who have confessed the same faith as we have, who have worshipped like us, who have endeavoured to live through the power of Christ a risen life. Together we offer the Lord the worship that is his due, together we are aware of his Presence among us. Henry Stapleton New incumbent The Installation and Induction of the Rev Liam Beadle by the Bishop of Wakefield will take place at the Church of St Mary the Virgin in Honley on Wednesday 15th May at 7.30 pm. Invitations have been sent to clergy, retired clergy and organisations in the area so that the congregation is truly representative of the deanery and life in the whole of the Parish. Members of the congregations at St Mary’s and St George’s will shortly be asked to indicate if they wish to attend so that we shall have a good idea of how may people we will need to accommodate. The service will not be Eucharistic. On Wednesday 15th May there will be no 9.30 am Eucharist service at St Mary’s but on Thursday 16th May our new Vicar will say Morning Prayer at 9.00 am and celebrate Holy Communion at 9.30 am on his first full day as Vicar of our Parish. Please pray for Liam as he prepares for his work here. In the prayer corner, as well as praying, you can also write on a slip of paper to fasten to the prayer curtain any special prayer requests that you have. These will be prayed for at the monthly pastoral prayer meeting. In the Lady Chapel, you will find the candle holder and suggestions of prayers you may find helpful if you want to use them. There is no need to pay for the candles. 5 Jane Wardman HONLEY NEWS The collection for ‘Buy a Mothering Sunday gift and help transform lives’ at the Mothering Sunday Service raised £37.00 to help fund MU work enabling families to create stable, sustainable futures. I will let you know in the next magazine which gifts the committee decide to sponsor. Sincere thanks to those who contributed. Our guest speaker at the meeting on April 3rd is Cynthia Warrington who will be talking to us about the ‘Yorkshire Air Ambulance’.

  • Huddersfield (Town Centre and University) to Holmfirth (Town Centre)
Holmfirth Transitional Town Proposed Cycle Route – Huddersfield (town centre and university) to Holmfirth (town centre). The proposal seeks to create, as far as possible, an off road cycle path between the town centres of Huddersfield and Holmfirth, together with link paths from other significant Holme Valley settlements, notably Honley, Brockholes, Netherthong, New Mill and Wooldale. In addition to these settlements there are a number of other significant workplace and school destinations linked to or on the proposed route, notably Thongsbridge, Armitage Bridge, Lockwood, Folly Hall, Kirklees College, and Honley and Holmfirth High Schools Where an off road path is not considered to be achievable, the proposed route utilises the road network, with appropriate amendments and improvements to create a safe cycling environment. The existing and proposed routes are described below in clearly identifiable sections. Existing routes include some off road paths which are usable and used currently for cycling, and which will become part of the complete route, subject to any necessary improvements. Where off road paths connect to the road network, and for on road elements of the route, improvements to create a safe cycling environment are proposed. The route sections 1. Huddersfield town centre, within the ring road 2. Ring Road to Lockwood 3. Lockwood to Berry Brow 4. Berry Brow to Honley 5. Honley to Thongsbridge 6. Thongsbridge to Holmfirth 1. Huddersfield town centre – within the ring road The town centre is generally regarded as a relatively safe cycling environment. Traffic levels have been reduced by the introduction of bus gates, and speeds are relatively low. Some cycling infrastructure has been provided and there are some signed routes and safe ring road crossings, however provision is piecemeal and further improvements are required.

The Easter celebrations at both churches were great occasions with many people joining the throng of attendees. It was good to see Dean Henry celebrating with great gusto and style at St Mary’s and fantastic to see so many children at St George’s. Both Churches looked radiant in their decoration and all credit and thanks to those who cleaned and decorated them for the occasion. St Mary’s alterations, by way of the forward dais, were finished right on schedule and the work completed a great credit to the craftsmanship of John Dean and Bryan Hodgson. Their competence, enthusiasm and patience is borne out by their excellent work, and many thanks are due to them for the finished article.

Our ref: 0980/19 I am sending this request under the Freedom of Information Act on Tuesday February 12th 2019 to ask for the following information about knife possession offences broken down by age, gender and year. (I am most interested in people under 18 carrying knives). Please provide the following information: 1. The number of knife / bladed instrument possession offences for a) 2014 b) 2015 c) 2016 d) 2017 e) 2018 f) please provide a breakdown by gender. 2. For the same time period and giving the figures for each year - how many of those offenders were under 18? Please include: a) the exact age for each person under 18. b) the gender of each person under 18. c) whether the offender was caught carrying a knife or bladed object on school / educational premises? If possible, please provide the name of the school / establishment. d) A breakdown by sentence / punishment – i.e. people cautioned, reprimanded or convicted. My report is focusing on the number of women under 18 caught carrying knifes. So the gender breakdown is really important, as are the exact ages for those caught who are under 18. If including convictions is an over cost response – then omit those from your response and proceed with this amended request. Please see the attached tables which contain the requested information. West Yorkshire Police are committed to prosecuting anyone found to be possessing or using a knife or firearm. The work of our partners and community based projects is important, as is the vigilance of families who believe one of their relatives may carry weapons.
