Crankhandle News 2 PRESIDENTS REPORT WOW, what a tremendous SWAP meet we have just had. This year was without doubt the biggest and best yet. I know I have said this over the last few years but everything this year went so well and the weather was just about perfect, a cool morning followed by a sunny Gold Coast warm winter day. A lot of swappers set up on the Saturday afternoon and almost filled up the front section, it was great to see so many sellers who have been coming over the years return again this year, we must be doing something right. Without our happy 35 plus band of willing members who turn up each year to help on Friday, Saturday & Sunday, an event such as this would not happen. A sincere and grateful Thankyou to all our crew who manned the gates, organised car parking, organised the swappers and their sites, stayed overnight as security, cleaned up the rubbish and helped in lots of other ways. Pam`s cooked breakfast this year was ``just the best’’ with many members including myself going back for seconds. In 12 months’ time we can do it all again and judging by the great response we had from the public this year, it should be just as successful. Our Presentation Lunch on the 10th July at the Tugun Bowls Club was well attended by 40 + members. The day started with a delightful run organised by John & Peter through some areas behind Tallebudgera that I had never been before. This was followed by a lovely Christmas in July dinner and the annual Presentation of Trophies. I noticed that Col. our esteemed Treasurer had an armful of trophies to put on his shelf at home, well done. On Saturday the 16th July our club did the Sausage Sizzle at Bunnings Nerang. This had been organised some months ago by Col, it turned out to be a good fun day enjoyed by the members who helped and also it put a few dollars back into the kitty. Thanks to Col, who organised it all and spent a lot of time going shopping to get more supplies as we sold more than anticipated. It is with great sadness that we learnt of the passing of our lovely member Wendy Wood. John and Wendy have been members of our club for close on 30 years. They were a great team, John had been our rally organiser for at least 15 years and Wendy was always with him on all the club events. She was a rather private lady with a great sense of humour, a mother of 4 sons and 1 daughter, her presence at our events will be missed by us all. Her funeral on 21st of July was attended by many members from our club, our deepest sympathy goes to John and his wonderful family. Don`t forget our AGM club meeting is on Monday 8th August see you there. Crankhandle News 3 EDITORIAL Well here we are the last newsletter before the AGM, have you considered running of any positions this time. Our committee has been there a few years now and some new blood would be very good for our club. New blood means new ideas and possibly new adventures; we do need a new secretary this time. It’s not a hard big job, mainly recording inwards and outwards mail, recording the minutes at meetings and a few emails and letters out. As you read in Dave’s report we had a couple of good events in July, two of which have made a good increase to the clubs bank balance which helps keep fees down. The very sad news was the passing of Wendy Wood, this couple were very good friends of ours and we will miss her greatly and would like to pass on our personal wishes to John Wood. As I have said before I will run again for editor if you still want me to, but only for two terms at the most. Then its time out and for us it’s time to travel more around Australia and maybe OS, we will have to see. VALE WENDY WOOD It is with great sadness that we have to inform fellow club members of the recent passing of our lovely esteemed club member Wendy Wood. Wendy passed away on the 17th July and her funeral on the 21st July was attended by many of our club members, as well as family and friends. John and Wendy Wood had been married for 63 years, Wendy had 5 children, and they all lived mainly in the UK and also Spain for a short time. In later years John and Wendy moved to Australia living here on the Gold Coast, they have both been very enthusiastic members of our club for almost 30 years. Wendy was always there as the navigator with John on Rallies and events. Seniors are admitted free for the day while adult admission is $5. As a feature for this day we will be journeying along memory lane with the many displays that depict the pioneering days of the Gold Coast Hinterland. We will have our “Singing Swagman” Col Boundy along to entertain us as well as a free Devonshire tea on our veranda to enjoy. The slab hut is a must to see how hard it was and how pioneers “invented” the ne- cessities of life. Displays are constantly being changed and updated. The Museum is located in the Mudgeeraba Heritage Centre, 238 Mudgeeraba Road Mudgeeraba. For further information contact, Anne Panitz on 5596 3165, email [email protected]. Greatest music event ever August 1969 The Woodstock Music & Art Fair—informally, the Woodstock Festival or simply Woodstock—was a music festival attracting an audience of over 400,000 people, scheduled over three days on a dairy farm in New York state from August 15 to 17, 1969, but which ran over four days to August 18, 1969. Billed as "An Aquarian Exposition: 3 Days of Peace & Music", it was held at Max Yasgur's 600-acre (240 ha; 0.94 sq mi) dairy farm in the Catskills near the hamlet of White Lake in the town of Bethel.
