Google Docs Adds New Voice Features

● Google wants bolding a phrase in a document or aligning a paragraph to be as simple as saying the command out loud. On Feb. 24, users will be able to execute tasks like these and others through voice dictation. ● Google Docs supports a lengthy list of voice commands aimed at selecting text, formatting a document, adding and editing , and more. For instance, saying the word “cut” followed by the phrase you’ d like to delete would tell Google to erase those specific words. ● Google has supported voice dictation in Google Docs for months, but this is the first time advanced editing tools like these have been made available. ○ Read the full article here and the support article here

● SMART just published this public facing page on SMARTBoard compatibility with Chromebooks. It outlines which products work best with which devices, and also mentions which functionality is not supported. ● For the best experience with the Chrome OS, use SMART amp software. Google and the National Park Service are putting 3,800 artifacts and artworks in an online museum

● Google has been building out an online museum for the past five years, and today it's adding a large new collection: it's partnered with the National Park Service to add over 3,800 works of art, artifacts, and records. ● Those include objects used in the 1962 Alcatraz escape, a pen used to sign the Civil Rights Act, and a typewriter from Frederick Douglass' home. Fiber Google is bringing free gigabit Fiber to public housing across the US

● "Last summer, Google said it would help connect some 275,000 low-income homes to the internet as part of the White House’s ConnectHome initiative. ● Today Google announced it had outfitted 100 homes at the West Bluff public housing complex in City with a free Google Fiber connection. It worked with the Housing Authority of Kansas City on the project, which is the first of many it will complete as part of the ConnectHome partnership. Education | “How Limited Internet Access Can Subtract From Kids' Education” (NPR, February 8): “As early as in 2013, the U.S. Census Bureau reported that phones were reducing historic Internet use disparities among different racial and ethnic groups.
