The St. Johns Cultural Events Division Announces The Spring 2015 Sing Out Loud (SOL) Series Lineup

St. Augustine, FL (Tuesday, January 20, 2015) – The St. Johns Cultural Events Division proudly announces the Spring 2015 Sing Out Loud Series lineup, featuring six concert events to be held at the Colonial Quarter in downtown St. Augustine. Tickets for each concert event will go on sale this Friday, January 23 at 10 a.m.

The Sing Out Loud Series, also known as the SOL Series, is a celebration of national and local songwriters. The first SOL Series was held in November 2014 and featured performances by Randy Newman, Justin Townes Earle and more. The Spring 2015 Series welcomes an eclectic lineup of performances ranging in musical style from to , to Americana. All six SOL Series performances will be held at the Colonial Quarter, 33 St. George Street, downtown St. Augustine.

Southern Culture on the Skids with The Woolly Bushmen and Rivernecks, March 8. Starting off the Spring 2015 SOL Series will be Southern Culture on the Skids with The Woolly Bushmen and Rivernecks on Sunday, March 8. Since 1983, when Southern Culture on the Skids formed in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, this raucous, good-natured and good-time have toured endlessly, performing their unique hybrid of Americana, surf, R&B, rockabilly and swamp pop while driving fans into “ecstatic, sweat-drenched paroxysms of joy”. On the night of this show, the Colonial Quarter will be offering specially-themed food items for sale.

La Luz with The Shivas, March 13. The all-female, surf-revivalist group La Luz will perform with The Shivas on Friday, March 13. Featuring Shana Cleveland, Marian Li Pino, Abbey Blackwell and Alice Sandahl, Seattle-based La Luz brings a relaxed beach-babe vibe to their take on the sweet, thick harmonies of 60’s girl-group, garage and doo-wop bands while delivering thumping, energetic bass lines, danceable surf beats, trembling organ, reverb-and soaked guitar.

Buckwheat Zydeco, March 19. American musical legend and the preeminent ambassador of ’s zydeco music, Buckwheat Zydeco (a.k.a. Stanley “Buckwheat” Dural, Jr.), will perform on Thursday, March 19. If you’ve gotten into zydeco music, or felt its influence, or watched the world celebrate this great aspect of Louisiana culture over the past 30+ years it’s likely been because of Buckwheat Zydeco. The Colonial Quarter will be offering specially-themed food items for sale during this performance.

Willie Sugarcapps with Seth Walker, March 27. On Friday, March 27, the acclaimed collaborative musical project Willie Sugarcapps and guest Seth Walker will perform. Willie Sugarcapps consists of five distinct musicians – Grayson Capps, Will Kimbrough, Corky Hughes and the duo Sugarcane Jane (Savana Lee and Anthony Crawford). Taking turns singing lead and switching up between , banjo, mandolin, lap steel, bass and even ukulele, Willie Sugarcapps represents a new kind of organic and artisanal music. It’s laid-back, it rocks, it comes from classic country, from the , from and from the best kind of rock ‘n’ roll. Austin-based bluesman, Seth Walker will be special guest opener.

The Baseball Project with , April 3. with special guest Chuck Prophet will perform on Friday, April 3. Formed in 2007 by Scott McCaughey (Young Fresh Fellows, , R.E.M.) and (, Steve Wynn and the Miracle 3, Gutterball), The Baseball Project began, and remains, a way for a couple of fans to pay musical tribute to our national pastime. As a full-fledged rock band that now includes drummer , The Baseball Project recently released 3rd, an album featuring 17 ace songs about, you guessed it, baseball. Roots-rock icon Chuck Prophet will be special guest opening act.

Della Mae, April 4. Rounding out the Spring 2015 SOL Series will be Della Mae, one of the first modern, all-female bluegrass bands on Saturday, April 4. Featuring seasoned players Kimber Ludiker (founder and fiddle), Celia Woodsmith (vocals), Courtney Hartman (guitar), Shelby Means (bass) and Jenni Lyn Gardner (mandolin), Della Mae commands a powerful collective chemistry with vocal, instrumental, and songwriting talent to spare.
