We found it an emotionally challenging ‘aspect to our work, wishing to interact so much more with the children, looking for emotional responses in them, and longing desperately to pour out as much love and joy as possible on them. I cannot articulate how life changing it is to see places like this, we take so much for granted, our education, our homes, our access to opportunities. So many people have such restricted living by comparison, yet they harbour a joy in their hearts despite their deficiencies in life.

This year has been a life changing challenge, a time of growth and learning and having my eyes opened more than I could ever have imagined. Nothing changes you more than seeing first hand how different life can be for people so far removed from our own daily lives that we fail to think about their circumstances.

The two rangers looking after us then beheaded the snake with a shovel - very dramatic for our first day.
