It consists not merely of skills and facts, but also embraces the reasoning and reflection required for life-long learning. Curiosity is an important tool in this respect. In fact, the word Nysgjerrigper actually translates into 'Curious Peter', and the programme is designed to put research and science on the agenda inside and outside the classroom. This abridged English version of the original Norwegian teachers' guide offers a brief introduction to the Nysgjerrigper Method and other learning resources for teachers and pupils in primary school. The objective is not simply to tell the world about what is going on in Norwegian classrooms, but also to inspire educators and communicators outside Norway to put scientific working methods on their agendas. The Nysgjerrigper Method is a tool designed for primary school teachers and pupils. Since the programme was launched in 1996, thousands of teachers all across Norway have attended courses and adopted the Nysgjerrigper Method. The teachers' guide is based on experience from meetings with teachers, as well as experience with entries in 'Nysgjerrigper of the Year', an annual research competition for young people in Norway. Norwegian national curricula emphasise the importance of encouraging activity and creative enthusiasm at school. Teachers who have applied the Nysgjerrigper Method report that it helps make schoolwork meaningful and interesting for pupils, creating in turn a good platform for motivation and cooperation. Each year, about 60 000 eager, hopeful first-graders embark on their academic careers in Norway. At school, they learn to recognise how one thing is related to another. They learn to read and write, and they learn how to gather and use scientific data and information. As they progress, they are required to deal with an ever wider range of sources of information. Their schoolwork should give them pleasure, and pupils need to be able to 'stretch' to reach new targets to keep up their motivation. Teachers should not simply teach, they should also pave the way for learning. Nysgjerrigper is intended to help contribute to this work through the Nysgjerrigper Method and other learning resources designed to benefit and inspire teachers and pupils inside and outside Norway. NORSK GEOLOGISK TIDSSKRIFT 43 A PRELIMINARY GEOLOGICAL SURVEY OF THE LOPPEN DISTRICT, WEST FINNMARK By T. K. BALL1, C. B. GuNN, P.R. HooPER and D. LEWIS (Department of Geology, University College of Swansea) Ab s t ra c t. The area includes the western margin of the Seiland petrograph ic pro vince and the meta-sedimentary succession to the west. The principal rock types and structures are described and the origin of the metaigneous rocks is discussed. The meta-sedimentary succession is quartzite, overlain by pelitic schist, overlain by meta-limestones. Three generations of structures are recognised, with trends of N 20°, N 340° and N 90° respectively. The succession is meta morphosed to the almandine -- amphibolite facies by regional metamorphism with local contact metamorphism near the gabbro sheets. The western extremity of the Seiland petrographic province consists of thick alternating sheets of hypersthene gabbro and quartz-feldspar-garnet gneiss belonging to the granulite facies, an olivine gabbro, basic dykes, perido tite dykes, an ultrabasic complex of peridotite blocks in an anorthosite matrix, and a perthosite. It is suggested that a banded and granulated hypersthene gabbro which contains hands of meta-limestone and syenite represents a portion of the intrusive hypersthene gabbro, granulated by penetrative deformation. I. Introduction The geology of the area and its position on the north-west coast of Norway is illustrated in Plate Il. No previous work on the area has been published, but it has been visited by the Norges Geologisk Undersøkelse, whose broad conclu sions are represented on the 1:1,000,000 geological rnap of Norway (HoLTEDAHL, 1960).

TILSTANDSREGISTRERING SANDLAND FISKERIKAI Sandland fiskerihavn 28.10.2014 Loppa kommune – Finnmark Allmenningskaia i Sandland fiskerihavn er i dårlig stand. Tilstandsregistrering Sandland fiskerikai Tilstandsregistrering Sandland fiskerikai KYSTVERKET 2014 1.

  • The 'A' Lineation and the Trend of the Caledonides of Northern Norway
THE 'A' LINEATION AND THE TREND OF THE CALEDONIDES OF NORTHERN NORWAY P. R. HOOPER Department of Geology, University College of Swansea, University of Wales HooPER, P. R.: The 'a' lineation and the trend of the Caledonides of Northern Norway. Norsk Geologisk Tidsskrift, Vol. 48, pp. 261-268. Oslo 1968. Attention is drawn to the consisteuti y !arge augular discordance between the trend of the major (F1) nappe folds of West Finnmark and North Troms and the outcrop of the Caledonian thrust front. It is suggested that the tight early folds in layered rocks of variable competency pro duced a regional lineation w hich became a preferred direction of transport for subsequent deformations. In the seeond h alf of the paper an example from Olderfjord, North T roms, is described inwhich the 'a' direction of F2 folds lies paraHel to the axis of the F1 folds. In the more competent contact aureole of the Olderfjord norite the F2 deformation takes the form of shear planes, paraHel to the planes of the F2 folds outside and on which is developed a strong 'a2' lineation. Thus the F1 microfold lineation and the F2 'a' lineation are coincident. REGIONAL TRENDS The conspicous lineation that is developed in the apparent direction of tectonic transport along the marginal thrust zones of the Caledonian orogenie belt, both in Scotland and in Norway, is well known. The early controversy in the literature (Phillips 1937, Anderson 1948, Kvale 1953, Turner 1957, Lindström 1958), to which it gave rise, was concemed primarily with whether this lineation lay paraHel to the 'a' or the 'b' tectonic axis.
