Clever dialogue, mind-blowing landscapes, expansive new concepts, and brilliantly designed characters. Super solid volume. This was mind blowing insanely good. The story is not trash. The whole concept of the green is so strange and interesting. I would recommend this volume of Swamp Thing. Swamp Thing is not into the killing humans bit. What follows is a grand adventure as Swamp Thing travels the Parliament of Trees world and meets certain members. Perhaps because of this long shadow, Swamp Thing has been used with surprising restraint in modern DC Comics, and features a genuinely approachable collection of available comics. All the art is well-done and reflects a drive to tell the story visually, but the panels do not overwhelm the narrative. I also really liked how even though some of the characters were past avatars of The Green, you still didn't quite trust them, and they weren't always the greatest of people. More than that I will not say-read this Thanks for telling us about the problem. I am also glad it ends with an ending, giving a closure for this story even though we know Swampy's journey is never really over more Swamp Thing to come! Batman Normally not a Soule fan, but he does a pretty good job on Swamp Thing. The stand off is pretty short, so I'm left wanting a little more I like the politics within the green and the eventual push away from altruism from the hero. The series has much wider parallels with the real world now, and feels much more grounded, despite essentially being about a bunch of swamp monsters fighting each other with plant magic. It works well, hinting at how much more powerful Swamp Thing could be if he utilized more of his abilities, then putting it on display in his battle with the Seeder, and then the aftereffects Swamp Thing comes back into a major story arc, as he fights the Seeder to defend his role as Avatar of the Green. This led them to an absorption with the Jewish creation myths in Genesis, which they obsessively reinterpreted to formulate allegorical explanations of how humans ended up trapped in the world of matter. The basic Gnostic story, which varied in details from teacher to teacher, was this: In the beginning there was an unknowable, immaterial, and invisible God, sometimes called the Father of All and sometimes by other names. “He” was neither male nor female, and was composed of an implicitly finite amount of a living nonphysical substance. Surrounding this God was a great empty region called the Pleroma (the fullness). Beyond the Pleroma lay empty space. The God acted to fill the Pleroma through a series of emanations, a squeezing off of small portions of his/its nonphysical energetic divine material. In most accounts there are thirty emanations in fifteen complementary pairs, each getting slightly less of the divine material and therefore being slightly weaker. The emanations are called Aeons (eternities) and are mostly named personifications in Greek of abstract ideas.

Salisbury to The Faculty of the Graduate College of The University of Vermont In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements For the Degree of Master of Arts Specializing in History May, 2013 Accepted by the Faculty of the Graduate College, The University of Vermont, in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts, specializing in History. Thesis Examination Committee: ______________________________________ Advisor Abigail McGowan, Ph.D ______________________________________ Melanie Gustafson, Ph.D ______________________________________ Chairperson Elizabeth Fenton, Ph.D ______________________________________ Dean, Graduate College Domenico Grasso, Ph.D March 22, 2013 Abstract At just under thirty years the serious academic study of American comic books is relatively young. Over the course of three decades most historians familiar with the medium have recognized that American comics, since becoming a mass-cultural product in 1939, have matured beyond their humble beginnings as a monthly publication for children. However, historians are not yet in agreement as to when the medium became mature. This thesis proposes that the medium’s maturity was cemented between 1985 and 2000, a much later point in time than existing texts postulate. The project involves the analysis of how an American mass medium, in this case the comic book, matured in the last two decades of the twentieth century. The goal is to show the interconnected relationships and factors that facilitated the maturation of the American sequential art, specifically a focus on a group of British writers working at DC Comics and Vertigo, an alternative imprint under the financial control of DC.

FREE ANIMAL MAN: VOL. 01 PDF Grant Morrison | 240 pages | 01 May 2001 | DC Comics | 9781563890055 | English | New York, NY, United States Animal Man, Vol. 1 by Grant Morrison Pros: The main storyline is interesting and involves a concept that has a ton of potential. The writing and visuals create a lot of horror that, in turn, creates a number of intense moments. Both concepts are incredibly entertaining and are only just being Animal Man: Vol. 01, meaning there is still plenty of room to grow here. The actual story Animal Man: Vol. 01 is also great and, when paired with the artwork, excels at building suspense and interest. Anyone looking for a unique superhero story, with a twist of horror, should pick this volume up. In this volume, Jeff Lemire tells a terrifying story about the forces of death hunting down an innocent family. The book is filled with hideous monsters, creepy concepts, and tons of moments that are simply packed with suspense. Meanwhile, the events happening here are constantly contributing to a larger narrative that is sure to pay off down the road. This volume is not for the faint of heart but, if you like horror and deep concepts, this is a wonderful read. The book starts out by introducing everyone to Buddy Baker, a family man who occasionally uses his superpowers to help out his local police force. This, on its own, is a fresh concept. Most comics do not focus on characters with any sort of established personal life, so it is nice to see how the world of DC Comics affects a realistic family.
