Reading, Writing, Language Arts, Math, Science, Health, and Social Studies are taught at all grade levels. In addition, music, art, and scheduled library times are provided on a weekly basis. Students are required to show proper respect and care for all books, educational materials and property used in the educational process. Reminder: proper care of all library materials is needed, and students will be held responsible for replacement. Overdue notices are maintained by the library personnel and parents will receive bills for the cost of replacing missing library materials. Prompt attention to these matters is appreciated. Equal participation and engagement is expected when in an online learning environment as well. ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL TIMES – PLEASE NOTE NEW PROCEDURE Those students who do not ride the bus MAY not come to school before 7:35 a.m. Buses will be dismissed on at a time with ALL students entering the building through the “old commons” doors (middle of the front of the building) where they will be temperature scanned via thermo imaging. Parents are not to accompany their children to reduce the number of people present at this busy time. Walkers and student drop-offs will enter following the buses and are also expected to use the old commons entrance and should not be accompanied by additional people. Any student entering with a temperature greater than 100.3° F will report to room 1113 for further health screening per the COVID recommendations from the Sheboygan County Health Department. Classroom instruction begins at 7:50 a.m. Elementary classroom instruction ends at 3:00 p.m. Walkers will be dismissed first at 3:00 p.m.with the expectation that they will walk directly to their destination and do not re-enter the building. At 3:05, any student riding home with a pre-arranged High School-aged driver will be dismissed. These students should have a pre-determined meeting location OUTSIDE the building to meet with their 5 Random Lake Elementary School 2020-2021 School Year High School-aged driver to avoid congestion in hallways. Outside the old commons area is suggested. Bus riders will await loading of their bus in the cafeteria. Loading will take place in the back of the school building. Loading will be by family group and load the back of the bus to the front of the bus. Parent pick-up student will load in the front of the building following the dismissal of the walkers and High School-aged driver/passenger student. Parents or other family members should NOT come into the building at the beginning or end of the school day to escort or wait for children, This is to decrease the number of people present at these busy times of the day. VISITOR PASSES As always, we welcome visitors to the school we are so proud to share. We are requiring all visitors, including parents and guests, to register in the office when arriving at school. Simply ring our doorbell in the vestibule, smile (video monitored) and identify yourself to be buzzed in. After signing in, visitor will be temperature checked and then asked to use a visitor’s pass to wear while in any part of the school. We ask that you please return to the office and sign out before leaving. The only entrances available during school hours are located at the elementary and high school doors. ANIMALS IN THE CLASSROOM Visiting and residential pets in the classroom may be a part of elementary school instruction. Please keep the following guidelines in mind when bringing animals into the classroom: The principal’s permission is required before bringing any animal into the school. Reminder: All visitors, including those with pets, must register in the office upon arrival and are subject to temperature check. ATTENDANCE AND TRUANCY All absences should be reported PRIOR to 8:00 a.m. by calling 994–4344. Students who arrive between one (1) and thirty (30) minutes after the tardy bell will be considered tardy. Students who arrive between thirty-one minutes and three and a half (3 ½) hours late will be considered a half-day (½) day absent. Students who are absent more than three and a half hours (3 ½) hours are considered a full day absent. Students who leave between one (1) and thirty (30) minutes early are considered left early. 6 Random Lake Elementary School 2020-2021 School Year If no phone contact is complete on the day of the absence, the student must present a note from his/her parent or legal guardian to the office on the day of the return. The note must state the day the student was absent and the reason for the absence. The absence will be regarded as unexcused until the note is received, or we have talked with a parent / guardian. This needs to be done in a timely manner so that our attendance records are maintained accurately. Notes and calls from parents regarding any student absence (full or part day) should be directed to the office, not classroom teachers. Excused Absences The following conditions may excuse a student from school attendance (excused absences are still recorded as absences so that accurate attendance records are maintained): • Personal illness or injury (a doctor’s certificate may be required by the school principal). • Family illness – an emergency situation requiring the student to be absent from school. • Quarantine of the home by local health officials. • Death of a relative (limited to three (3) days unless reasonable cause can be shown for a longer absence). • Observance of a religious holiday consistent with student’s established creed or belief. Students who accumulate five or more days or partial days of unexcused absences in one semester will meet the criteria of truancy under Wisconsin State Law (§ 118.15(5)(a)) and may be subject to truancy proceedings. All students arriving tardy are required to sign in at the office and be temperature checked before proceeding to their classroom. It is preferred that parents sign their late arriving students in at the office.

  • Inclement Weather Letter
Kewaskum Community Schools The Kewaskum Community Schools ignite a passion for learning. Inclement Weather Decisions 2017-2018 School Year Dear Parents: As school superintendent, it can be challenging to decide whether to close schools (for inclement weather) for the day, especially when it must be based on the best information we have around 5:00 a.m. Soon, Wisconsin weather may provide us with difficult school closing decisions. How do we make the Weather Related School Closing Decisions? • We gather as much weather-related information as possible. • Surrounding area school superintendents are contacted to compare information gained through contacts in the individual school districts. • We receive information from state, county, and village officials. We focus on road conditions along with both the short- and long-term weather forecasts. • We obtain information from our bus transportation company regarding their recommendations. • We discuss with the Building & Grounds Director to ensure parking lots can be plowed timely for safety. As the superintendents share the information gained with one another, we also look at our own unique circumstances. A partially rural area (like ours) will have roads that may be in a less safe condition. Armed with the information above, we also base our decision on the following extremely important factors that can also be unique to each district and its geographic area: • Wind velocity impacting the blowing and drifting of snow in more rural areas of our district. • Buses running routes on a slower pace having an impact on the length of time students may be waiting at bus stops, especially younger students.
