Cusgarne School This Week CUSGARNE SCHOOL THIS WEEK Date: 8th June 2018 Diary Dates Dear All Welcome back! This week has been an exciting one for the children— w/c 11 June Class 3 have been on camp to London, Class 2 have had a visit to a mine Phonics Screening and Class 1 have been exploring their new classroom and making good week use of their outdoor space. 12 June Next week will be equally busy—especially for Class 1. Phonics Screening Class photos will take place next week and on Tuesday and Thursday, they welcome the September starters who will be coming in for a taster session. 13 June On Tuesday, Tempest are coming into school for the class photos so Minack Trip please don’t be late and wear your smartest uniform! On Wednesday the whole school will be going to the Minack to see Dr 14 June Doolittle. This is a non uniform day but please check the forecast before- TRLC awards hand. If it is forecast to be sunny, wear plenty of suncream since the after- noon sun does fall onto the Minack. Hats and suncream to the ready! We 15 June are grateful to the Friends for helping us fund this trip and for supplying the Dress down day interval ice-creams. Please remember that there are no music lessons or (donations for after school clubs next Wednesday and we are returning to school at tombola) approximately 5.30pm. Friday the 15th will also be a non-uniform day and we are asking that the 18 June children bring in a small donation of a gift for the tombola. The tombola Sports Day stall will be held at the parish fete on 23rd June. If you also have a chance, 1pm at please could you have a look through your bookshelves? Donations for a Richard Jory book stall are also required, especially of children’s books. Playing Field The road outside school has been resurfaced and the yellow zigzags will (reserve day 19th) soon be re-painted. In the meantime, please remember not to obstruct the lower gate. 23 June Sadly this week, a pupil fell from the monkey bars and has broken a wrist. Gwennap Parish This happened after school and has upset all of us. Please remember that Community Fete once the school day has ended, the children are your responsibility and you use the equipment at your own risk. 3 July Moving up afternoon Tim Barnard, Acting Head of School 6 July Late arrivals : if your child is late for school—please bring them to the main Friends of Cusgarne Reception so we can register them and order a lunch of needed. Class 3—London Camp 2018 We had an amazing time! Not only was the weather great, but our days were full of fun things. We stayed in a youth hostel at Lee Valley which was superb. The boys had one lodge, and the girls had the other one next door. There was lots of space to run around and we had 2 hours of games on the first night. Our first visit was to Greenwich and the observatory and we even got to stand either side of the meridian line! On day 2 we had a ride on the London Eye and then went to the Science Museum. In the even- ing we went to the Lion King which was fantastic. On Wednesday we had a tour and workshop in the Houses of Parliament and then onto Warner Bros Studios for a Making of Harry Potter tour. The days flew by and we have some happy memories of our school camp.     Cornwall Council Preliminary Flood Risk Assessment ANNEX 5 – Chronology of Major Flood Events in Cornwall June 2011 1800 – 1899 A storm caused coastal flooding affecting a number of communities along the south coast on 19-20 January 1817. Polperro harbour was destroyed by this storm and Looe was badly damaged. Truro suffered from numerous flooding events during the 1800s (1811, 1815, 1818, 1838, 1841, 1844, 1846, 1848 (twice), 1869, 1875, 1880, 1882 (twice), 1885, 1894 and 1899). These were usually associated with high river flows coinciding with high tides. Known as the Great Flood of 16 July 1847, due to an intense rainstorm event on Davidstow Moor water collected in the valley and forced a passage of water down the Camel and Inney. Bodmin - Dunmere Valley and the whole area below Dunmere Hill was flooded by the River Camel. Dunmere Bridge was washed away as was the new 40 feet (12 m) high railway bridge. At St. Breward, bridges from Gam Bridge to Dunmere were washed away by a wall of water 12 to 18 feet (3.5-5.5 m) above normal along the River Camel. The devastating floods that swept down from Davidstow Moor washed away all but two of the bridges along the River Camel - Wadebridge and Helland being the only survivors. Serious flooding occurred in Par and St Blazey in November 1852. November 1875 saw heavy rain resulting in serious flooding in Bude, Camelford, Polmorla, Hayle, St Just, Penzance and Truro. Extreme rainfall in October 1880 resulted in serious flooding in both Bodmin and Truro. High tides at the end of September and early October 1882 resulted in flooding in Boscastle, Truro, Wadebridge and Padstow.
