COTY Log by Terry Sa A RADIO BROADCAST LOG OF THE DRAMA PROGRAM CHALLENGE OF THE YUKON By: Terry G.G. Salomonson P.O. Box 347 Howell, MI 48844-0347 10/17/88 Copyright c 1988 by Terry G. G. AUTHORS OF THE CHALLENGE OF THE YUKON SCRIPTS All program scripts were authored by the creator of this series Thomas Dougall, unless otherwise noted. Authorship of scripts written by other authors is identified by a number contained within parentheses following the title of the script. For example: 11/30/44 # 357 King Meets A Grizzley (2). Look at the listing below for the number two, and this corresponds to the copyrighted author. In this case it would be Betty Joyce. LISTING OF RADIO SCRIPT AUTHORS: ( 1) Fran Striker ( 2) Betty Joyce ( 3) Bob Green ( 4) Mildred "Mickey" Merrill ( 5) Bob Green & Mildred Merrill ( 6) Mildred Merrill & Dan Beattie ( 7) Dan Beattie ( 8) Felix Holt ( 9) Tom Dougall (10) Jim Lawrence (11) Steve McCarthy (12) Mildred Merrill & Fran Striker ACKNOWLEDGMENTS The listing that follows was compiled from many sources with help from many people associated with the program and WXYZ. Most of the accuracy comes from the original WXYZ production logs of the program and the broadcast logs that were kept by hand at the station. I now own this material and it has helped greatly in producing good logs with very little misinformation in them. This material covers THE LONE RANGER, THE GREEN HORNET, and THE CHALLENGE OF THE YUKON. This log, as well as a log for THE GREEN HORNET which I have not yet released, came about with my research on THE LONE RANGER. Research in Washington, D.C. at the Copyright Office, reading microfilms of copyright entries, The Detroit News, The Detroit Times, and The Detroit Free Press newspapers, as well as other sources of information available on microfilms, helped very much. Many hours of research work, travel, telephone calls, entering data into the computer, etc., have gone into the body of this broadcast log. There is still some information that is needed to complete this log, but for now thanks to those who have helped and encouraged me in this work, especially to the following: Lee Allman Nancy Hunt Tony Caminita Ralph Jewell Tom Dougall Jim Lawrence Fred Flowerday Dick Osgood Denise Green Fran Striker, Jr. CHALLENGE OF THE YUKON By Thomas Dougall THURSDAY 15 MINUTE BROADCASTS FROM WXYZ, DETROIT 02/03/38 # • Kemo Sabe Tonto As a Developing Construction of the Indian Character Type
Kemo Sabe Tonto as a developing construction of the Indian character type. Nicholas William Moll Bachelor of Arts – Professional Writing & Editing (Honours) Submitted in total for the degree of Doctorate of Philosophy Faculty of Education and Arts Federation University Australia PO Box 664 University Drive, Mount Helen Ballarat, Victoria 3353 Australia Submitted in the month of December, 2014 Statement of Authorship ii Summary At the opening of each episode of The Lone Ranger radio series, audiences are invited to “return with us now to those thrilling days of yesteryear”. From 1933 through to 2013 productions of The Lone Ranger media franchise have continued to extend this invitation. The evocation of the past through The Lone Ranger franchise includes Tonto: the masked man’s Indian1 sidekick. Tonto has remained an element of the franchise since the inception of The Lone Ranger and the development of Tonto presents an intriguing map of changing Indian characterization across the twentieth-century. This study argues that Tonto has developed as the masked man’s foil to incorporate colonial violence and Anglo-American culpability into The Lone Ranger narratives. In doing so, this thesis notes that Tonto’s assimilation within narratives of The Lone Ranger can be read like a parable, presenting a model of appropriate social responses for the interrelation of races through the masked man and Tonto’s partnership. The structure and style of Tonto’s assimilation develops gradually in the franchise over the course of the twentieth-century. Initially Tonto’s assimilation suggested a Romanticized future for the Indian following colonization. However, later productions of The Lone Ranger juxtapose assimilation with extermination.

  • SPECIAL SUMMER ISSUE FEATURING SOUND EFFECTS Welcome to Our First Special Issue of ‘The Old Radio Times’
THE OLD RADIO TIMES The Official Publication of the Old Time Radio Researchers www.otrr.org 2182 Subscribers [email protected] SPECIAL SUMMER ISSUE FEATURING SOUND EFFECTS Welcome to our first special issue of ‘The Old Radio Times’. One of our good members, Henry Morse, sent us two articles for publication, that had sound clips embedded in the pdf. The size of the files prevented them from being included in a regular issue, so we chose this method. Enjoy, and look for your next exciting issue of ‘The Old Radio Times’ real soon! Who Was That Masked Man – Some Recollections Henry L. Morse Prologue This article contains embedded sound files called “clips” that serve to illustrate points in the article and enhance the appreciation of the magic of old time radio. These are useful to anyone viewing this document on a computer. If you wish to hear the sound clips, just click on the “play” box. If you are just reading the article, these will not interfere with your reading enjoyment. Introduction In a previous article I began with my first recollection of The Shadow, which was at age 9. Actually my love affair with radio goes back even further than that. I was 6 years old and WWII was still being fought. I was in the first grade and walked about a mile to school every day. My two most vivid memories of that time were a girl named Judy, a vision of loveliness who had the most gorgeous blond pipe curls that one could ever image. The other is lying on the living floor with my head on a pillow right in front of our 1937 Zenith Black Dial console radio.
