They must be able to achieve one-hit-kill headshots at any range even when enemies are at full health and must give off a scope-glint when using optics. Anti-material rifles are not included due to their anti-vehicle purpose as well as carbines and semi- .automatic rifles for their inability to fulfill the requirements listed above The Recon class has access to some of the most powerful weapons in the game, at least from longer ranges. Of all the bolt-action rifles in the game, the weapon has the largest magazine capacity and highest fire rate, at the cost of a categorically lowest muzzle velocity of 600 m/s. These characteristics make the weapon more suited for medium-range engagements than its counterparts, with the rapid cycling and generous capacity being more forgiving in the event of missed shots. Per-shot damage is low but consistent, with only a difference of 5 .damage between its maximum and minimum per-shot effect :Lee-Enfield No4 Mk1 Details Unlock: Recon Rank 1 Fire Mode: Bolt-Action Rate-of-Fire: 72 RPM Max Damage: 65 Bullet-Velocity: 600 m/s Partial Reload: 3-7.5 seconds Empty Reload: 3-7.5 seconds Mag: 10/50 KAR98K #2 2 The Kar98K is the final unlock for the Recon kit, granted at rank 20 of the respective class. The Kar98k performs best at the range, with both the second-highest muzzle velocity (tied with the Krag-Jørgensen) and damage in class. However, it has the lowest default rate of fire in its weapon category and a mediocre magazine capacity of five rounds, which can be reloaded using a stripper clip unless the Medium or Long .Range Scope is equipped :Kar98k Details Class: Scout Unlock: Recon Rank 20 Fire Mode: Bolt-Action Rate-of-Fire: 49 RPM Max Damage: 75 Bullet-Velocity: 900 m/s Partial Reload: 1.73-3.77 seconds Empty Reload: 1.73-3.77 seconds Mag: 5/45 GEWEHR M95/30 #3 3 The Gewehr M95/30 is unlocked for the Recon kit at class rank 6. Compared to its appearance in Battlefield 1 the weapon has a much-reduced rate of fire, having been eclipsed in a class by the Lee-Enfield No.4 Mk I, however, the weapon is still the second-best in this regard. Maximum damage is the highest in its class, and damage drop-off does not occur until 30m, which is 10m longer than most other bolt-actions, which allows the weapon to stand a better chance of picking off wounded players at medium distance. The Gewehr M95/30 also has a consistent reload time due to its en-bloc clip, resulting in a faster reloading process when .the rifle is completely empty, and one that is not affected by the use of long-range optics :Gewehr M95/30 Details Unlock: Recon Rank 6 Rate of Fire: 58 RPM Max Damage: 80 Rate-of-Fire: 58 RPM Bullet Velocity: 750 m/s Partial Reload: 3.2 seconds Empty Reload: 3.2 seconds Mag: 5/45 ROSS RIFLE MK III #4 4 The Ross Rifle Mk III shares the same damage model as the Lee-Enfield No.4 Mk I, which drops from 65 to 60 damage at a maximum distance 60m distance, but with a higher muzzle velocity of 750 m/s. Its magazine capacity of five is standard, with the Ross capable of being loaded either with single bullets or full clips. The rifle's main strength is its relatively fast rate of fire at 64 RPM, which left unmodified is only exceeded by the Lee-Enfield. Considering its low damage drop-off and mediocre projectile velocity, the Ross is generally suited to closer range engagements favored by the Lee-Enfield, where its ability to deliver quick follow-up .shots can be more effectively utilized and the required leading applied to moving targets is minimal Ross Rifle Mk III Details Unlock Cost: 1,700 Company Coins ● Fire Mode: Bolt-Action ● Rate-of-Fire: 64 RPM ● Max Damage: 65 ● Bullet-Velocity: 750 m/s ● Partial Reload: 2.6-4.4 seconds ● Empty Reload: 3.67 seconds ● Mag: 5/45 ● TYPE 99 ARISAKA #5 5 The Arisaka performs almost identically to the Gewehr M.95/30 possessing the same high damage up close that drops off steeply at 30m and RPM of 58 that can be upgraded to 67 with the machined bolt upgrade. Velocity is at 750m/s which is the same as the Ross MkIII and Gewehr M.95/30. One notable aspect of the Arisaka is that none of the scopes get in the way of the loading gate of the gun meaning that unlike the Lee .Enfield or the Kar98, the Arisaka can reload using 5 rounds stripper clips on 3x and 6x scopes Type 99 Arisaka Details Unlocked at: Recon Rank 1 ● Fire Mode: Bolt-Action ● Rate-of-Fire: 58 RPM ● Max Damage: 80 ● Bullet-Velocity: 750 m/s ● Partial Reload: 3.46-4.96 seconds ● Empty Reload: 3.67 seconds ● Mag: 5/45 ● KRAG-JØRGENSEN #6 6 The Krag-Jørgensen is unlocked at Recon class rank 13. The Krag has the lowest maximum damage per shot of all the bolt-action rifles, however, this damage is consistent across all ranges with no drop-off, meaning that despite lackluster base values the weapon is still capable of a one-shot headshot even at extreme range. Combat at such ranges is aided by the high muzzle velocity of 900 m/s, which ties it with the Kar98k. Possibly the most unique feature of the Krag-Jørgensen is its reload process, as it is the only bolt- action with a +1 capacity, one more than all its contemporaries barring the Lee-Enfield No.4 Mk I. However, it cannot use stripper clips and must be reloaded one round at a time. In June the Small Arms Factory at Lithgow celebrated its Centenary, it officially opened on 8 June 1912 and went on to manufacture over 640,000 SMLE rifles as well as Vickers and Bren guns, followed by SLRs and Steyrs, many of which have served our own Armed Forces.     Great War British & Empire Sniping Equipment (part 2*) by Roger Payne The Watts Telescope (Figure 1) hese are conventional terrestrial low power telescopes (approximately x2 magnification and Tbroadly similar to the Aldis and PPCo). They were produced by (or for?) the London based company of ER Watts and bear the company name marked on to the ocular housing, together with the serial number of the individual instrument. Total procurement for the military is likely to be a little in excess of 150 1. Concerning the method of attachment to the SMLE, the few surviving examples that the writer is aware of either have no rings remaining on them, or else each has different types of mount; so it is certain that more than one different mounting system was utilised to attach these telescopes to their rifles. To illustrate the point further, the author has three Watts telescopes in his collection; one no longer retains any mounts; one bears the remains of Daniel Fraser mounts; and the third sports Alex Martin rings Figure 1. The Watts telescope. This particular example bears Purdey mounts more usually associated with the Aldis ‘scope. (this last mentioned telescope also came into the writer’s possession with its mount base produced to conform to still extant. If, however, success is achieved in the Boys rifle, the Board will arrange for some 15 mm. conveyor rounds to be manufactured and issued to A.F.V. School for trial. It will have been seen that the practicality of an equivalent conveyor system for the 15mm BESA gun was also under consideration, and its future would rest on the success, or otherwise, of the system for the Boys ATR. The comprehensive Trials' Reports memorandi can be viewed separately from this link. These letters date between April and August 1940. A North American equivalent to the Parker-Hale conveyor was manufactured in Canada by the Cooey Machine & Arms Company. In his reference book "The Lee-Enfield Story", Ian Skennerton refers to that company producing "77,000 aiming tube conveyors which enabled .22-in. R.F. ammunition to be used in the Boys anti-tank rifle for training". Actually, the Cooey conveyor was not strictly speaking an aiming tube system, which might also have afforded magazine-fed firing practice, and such a sleeve would have been a full-length rifle barrel in its own right, with an outside diameter of a nominal half-inch, that remained in place in the parent barrel during loading.. However, the difference between the Boys' adaptation and the "303" cum 22" conveyor was that the Boys' model had a rifled bore instead of a smoothbore one, and the .303 conveyor for the SMLE fed the .22 bullet into a .22 barrel, although the .303 P-H conveyor for the Vickers machine gun did fire the .22 bullet straight down the .303 barrel - at very short range though.

    Pattern 1853 Enfield Ammunition A history of the development of the ammunition used in the first successful general-issue military rifle 1st Lieutenant Brett Gibbons, Ordnance Corps, USAR December, 2016 Foreword A great deal has been written about the Pattern 1853 Enfield rifle-musket by prominent experts of far deeper understanding and knowledge than myself. These outstanding works painstakingly document the various modifications and changes to the rifle itself over its brief but colorful service life, including its extensive use in the American Civil War. I hope to add in some small measure to what has previously been written about the Enfield rifle, by providing an overview of the development and history of the ammunition used by that rifle. I submit that the Pattern 1853 Enfield rifle-musket is the first infantry weapon of our current modern era, having more in common with the M16’s and M4’s of today’s U.S. military than the smooth-bore muskets that came before it. The P1853 was mass-produced and issued to the entire army; for the first time, every single soldier was armed with a weapon that could accurately engage individual targets out to extraordinary ranges. Most importantly (and this separates the P1853 from other rifle-muskets of the era), it could be loaded and fired with ease, even hundreds of times, without being stopped by the accumulation of black powder fouling. The ammunition made this possible. The P1853 rifle itself, while undoubtedly a fine arm, was virtually identical in construction, quality, and accuracy to the rifle-muskets adopted by France, Belgium, Austria, the United States, and the other major powers.
