A lot has happened in 118 years and the industry has had to cope with many crises: two world wars, the Cold War, the advent of hijacking, oil price shocks and then 9/11. This is a dynamic industry and all these setbacks have been weathered and the industry has oft en had to adapt itself to cope with a new reality. Few will dispute the fact that the coronavirus pandemic has now become the toughest crisis that the airline Industry has had to adapt to. The impact has been enormous on every sector of this great industry: airlines, airports, manufacturers, fuel companies and countless support businesses. Job losses have been enormous and the outlook remains extremely uncertain. Aviati on is by nature a very connected industry. Therefore the Zambian industry has felt all the above shocks and perhaps more so as a key ingredient of the industry in Zambia is internati onal tourism during our dry season; this sector has all but vanished and will take ti me to recover. On a positi ve note, this has been a good ti me to be small rather than large. Traditi onal wisdom in the aviati on industry held that this is an industry where size matt ers, everything has been about economies of scale. COVID-19 has knocked this on its head and small airlines have been able to adjust more quickly to the new reality than large airlines with hundreds of planes and thousands of employees. In South Africa, the two largest airlines went into business rescue and if SAA does re-emerge it will be a shadow of its former self. At Profl ight Zambia we have been forced to adapt and have had to downsize and reduce capacity to match the changing market. Even though internati onal tourism has disappeared in the short term we have been able to conti nue to keep vital domesti c links open. The Zambian economy conti nues to operate and the mining industry conti nues to be our backbone, so we conti nue to keep the fl ights to Ndola and Solwezi open. At the same ti me, even though domesti c tourism has been hard hit by the pandemic a number of hotels and lodges have remained open and Profl ight has conti nued to keep fl ights operati ng to Mfuwe and Livingstone. Domesti c tourism is important to Profl ight and Zambia as we believe that it will recover quicker than internati onal tourism and that it is more resilient to external shocks, whether a pandemic or economic challenges. Even as we acknowledge challenges we acknowledge wins as well. This year Profl ight celebrates 30 years of operati on. Meanwhile Nkwazi is celebrati ng this, its 50th editi on. Like the airline this magazine has grown, adapted and evolved over many years. We are thankful to the readers that are the very reason this magazine exists. During this crisis Profl ight Zambia has been able to launch its own service to Johannesburg, South Africa is our most important trading partner and we look forward to conti nuing to strengthen our service on this vital link. We now have to weather the second wave of this pandemic and it is proving to be more destructi ve than the fi rst wave. I would like to thank all our customers, both corporate and personal, for your support during this very diffi cult ti me and assure you of our conti nued commitment to providing vital air links to connect the businesses of Zambia and the people of Zambia both domesti cally and with our neighbours Yours sincerely, Captain Philip Lemba 4 nkwazimagazine.com Meet Abby, your secure, smart, digital assistant. Applying the principles of Missio Dei: Ministering to the Mozambican migrants in the North West province of South Africa F RODRIGUES FILHO orcid.org/ 0000-0001-6945-3815 Dissertation accepted in fulfilment of the requirements for the degree Masters in Missiology at the North-West University Supervisor: Prof. P.J. (Flip) Buys Graduation ceremony: May 2020 Student number: 28032195 PREFACE This dissertation is submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the Master of Arts degree (Missiology) at the Potchefstroom Campus of the North-West University. It contains work done from April 2015 to October 2019. During the field research and investigation for this dissertation I was assisted by Prof. Flip Buys as supervisor. He helped me to organize and transcribe all data collected during this period. The material collected during the research resulted in the finalization of this thesis as well as the publication of an article: Eyes on the Border: The Social and Religious Analysis of the Communities of Mozambicans from the North West Region of South Africa. Both are the result of visits, interviews and cooperative work with the Mozambican community residing in the North West Province. Initially the idea was to produce an anthropological study with a cultural and missiological analysis of poor communities in Africa, Paraguay, and Brazil. However, as I am a missionary sent from Brazil to train new Portuguese-speaking Mozambican leaders, my supervisor and I agreed that researching how to apply the principles of Missio Dei in migrant communities in the North West Province could produce relevant and practical material. This research could help my avocation, as well as future missionaries and churches who want to operate in this same region.

Implementing Preventive Education about HIV/AIDS through Physical Education in Zambia: The Response of Teachers By Donald Lesa Njelesani A thesis submitted in conformity with the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy Graduate Department of Exercise Sciences Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education University of Toronto © Donald Lesa Njelesani (2012) “Implementing Preventive Education about HIV/AIDS through Physical Education in Zambia: The Response of Teachers” Donald Lesa Njelesani Doctor of Philosophy Graduate Department of Exercise Sciences University of Toronto 2012 Abstract Governments, United Nations (UN) agencies and international and local non- governmental organizations (NGOs) have mounted a concerted effort to remobilize sport as a vehicle for broad, sustainable social development. This resonates with the call by the UN Inter-agency Task Force for sport to be a key component in national and international development objectives. Missing in these efforts is an explicit focus on physical education within state schools, which still enroll most children in the global South. This study focuses on research into one of the few instances where physical education within the national curriculum is being revitalized as part of this growing interest in leveraging the appeal of sport and play as a means to address social development challenges such as HIV/AIDS. The study examines the response to the Zambian government’s 2006 Declaration of Mandatory Physical Education (with a preventive education focus on HIV/AIDS) by personnel charged with its implementation. The decree directed personnel to immediately begin implementing the teaching of physical education in all Basic and Secondary schools in Zambia to “ensure physical fitness and the enhancement of values, skills and holistic development of the learner” (Ministry of Education, 2006).
