Holiday Club 2019 Who Am I?

This year’s Holiday Club was held at Calverleigh Hall in August with 40 children attending each day. A big thank you to all who helped in any way to make Holiday Club a happy and fun way to learn the stories of David. Without the support of helpers who are able to give their time during this week, the Holiday Club would not run. We are very grateful to all who help in any way.

During the mornings Steph led our time together, dressing to the theme of the story. We were very blessed to be joined by Stephen Roche with his technical wizardry. The children enjoyed seeing the stories told so well by Steph, coming to life on the screen as lego characters and popular music. A favourite was the story of David and Goliath accompanied by Rag’n’bone man, I am Giant. A lot of fun was had by all, the songs were accompanied on screen by the actions, and the children learnt sign language to one of the songs. We were grateful to Janet Roche and Robert Gordon for accompanying the singing on keyboard and Guitar.

A new and popular addition to the Holiday Club this year this year was lego. A very big thank you to all those people who generously donated lego. It seemed a mammoth task to collect enough but it just kept coming, so we had enough for each child to have a reasonable amount to create with. The children took part in a lego challenge each day and as the week went on, children joined together to create bigger and more detailed models. Some of those who had donated the lego came to our Sunday Service, were very impressed and pleased to see what the children had made.

Our prayer activities included making friendship bracelets, arrows and painting pebbles. We once again welcomed the younger children to join us for the first part of our time together. They enjoyed listening to the story and joining in with the singing.

We finished the week with the magician Ozzy D who came to join us on Friday to entertain the children with magic and balloons before we had the barbecue. A big thank you to Tony and Ann Roberts who did the barbecue for us. It was lovely to see all the families.

Thank you to all those who generously gave donations at the barbecue and at the Sunday Service, where we collected for Cayla Jones, whose family are raising funds for treatment in America. We were able to send £250.00.

We all learnt so much, not just the children. We got to know each other and make new friends during the week. It was at lunchtimes that we were able to get together to chat and enjoy the much loved tuck shop! In the afternoons children were able to take part in crafts, which included making armour and there were opportunities for team games outside, taking part in football and other fun games.

Preparations are already under-way for Holiday Club 2020. Check out the dates in the next magazine. If you would like to help, or would like to know more about what we do, please contact Cindy on 01363 866621

TO ALL IN THE EXE VALLEY Marion & I have been completely overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of you all on our leaving. We have received so many generous thoughts and prayers from all nine churches, and the presents & cheque (not to mention Steph’s torches and “Olympic medals”) we received at the moving Group service in Loxbeare are amazing. We will be able to spoil ourselves as we look to use the present for something special in our new home. We are very sad to be leaving but are sure that The Lord is calling us to serve Him in Shropshire, and we follow His leading. Thank you all for your friendship and fellowship over the years, and be assured of our continued prayer for the Exe Valley. God Bless you all, John & Marion

MAYBE YOU COULD DO IT ?? We need to find someone, or two people, to fill the roles of Editor and Advertising Co- ordinator because Jenny and Geoff will be leaving the Exe Valley, in the near future.

Please contact Jenny & Geoff - or Steve in the Church Office (Contact details on Page 2) for more details

They are both rewarding jobs and would suit someone with a little spare time, who has some basic Computer Skills and, even better, some experience of Desktop Publishing. Training will be given. Contact details are on the inside cover BY THE TIME YOU READ THIS of this magazine. THIS HAS HAPPENED !!
