However, the measurement and analysis of UILU efficiency and intensification are not accurate and in-depth enough. The study of UILU efficiency loss and intensification potential and their relationship is still lacking, and the application of parametric methods with clearer causal mechanisms is insufficient. This paper argued that the intensification potential of UILU could be defined as the amount of saved land or output growth resulting from reduced efficiency loss of UILU. Accordingly, we constructed quantitative models for measuring and evaluating the intensification potential of UILU, using the stochastic frontier analysis (SFA) method to calculate efficiency loss in three major urban agglomerations (38 cities) in China. Our results revealed a large scale and an expanding trend in the efficiency loss and intensification potential of UILU in three major urban agglomerations in China. From 2003 to 2016, the annual efficiency loss of UILU was 31.56%, the annual land-saving potential was 979.98 km2, and the annual output growth potential was 8775.23 billion Yuan (referring to the constant price for 2003).

  • Emperor's River: China's Grand Canal – Philipp Scholz Rittermann July 1
Emperor’s River: China’s Grand Canal – Philipp Scholz Rittermann July 1 – November 30, 2014 Harn Museum of Art -- Rubin Gallery Introduction In 2009 and 2010, photographer Philipp Scholz Rittermann traveled along China’s Grand Canal to capture the country’s booming economy, and rapidly changing landscape and social structure. Rittermann’s photographic interests are largely focused on the built environment, and the way people and the planet are transformed by it. He traveled to China first as an invited artist and then on succeeding trips to document this massive waterway. Having mastered, in previous projects, the digital panorama—a format hungry for information—he found his ideal subject in the People’s Republic of China. The number of bridges, boats, scooters, railways, and the subject of the series itself, the Grand Canal, speaks to Rittermann’s fascination with passage. This material manifestation of movement becomes symbolic of our collective human journey in the 21st century. Accelerated passage and progress are the means by which this particular culture, China, and subsequently the world, plunges headlong into the future. Rittermann wants to momentarily arrest these unprecedented changes to reflect on their ramifications. As we voyage out of one century into another, his photographs become lyrical topographical maps from which to chart the course of a brave new world. — Carol McCusker, Curator About the Artist & Series To make his photographs, Philipp Rittermann handholds a digital camera, panning across a scene, making exposures every few seconds, anticipating what is about to happen in each frame. The specific needs of each frame (light, perspective, focal separation) must be understood in a fraction of a second while shooting.

Discussion paper WORKER PRESSURES IN THE ERA OF REFORM In China, state-owned enterprises (SOEs) dominate heavy industry and have long been renowned for extreme inefficiency. By the early 1990s, enterprise money losses and non- performing bank loans were threatening the continued stable development of nearly every province. For example, a finance department study in Liaoning Province indicated that 70% of the province's firms had hidden losses, which were on average 1.4 times greater than profits (Sender, 1993). By 2001, official publicized estimates of China's unpaid SOE debt reached $218 billion or 27% of total national bank lending (Chandler, 2002). Most Western analysts pegged the actual figures at double or more of these values. Ernst & Young estimated a total of $480 billion in unpaid SOE debts for 2001 or 44% of the national economy's $1.08 trillion output for that year (ibid). To try to staunch the loss of money the state has over the past decade and a half promoted enterprise reforms aimed at gradually eliminating lifetime employment guarantees for workers and cutting back on their vast array of social benefits (including food subsidies, very low cost housing, medical care, free vacations, child schooling, adult continuing education, etc.)1.

A-570-909 Administrative Review POR: 8/1/2018 - 7/31/2019 Public Document E&C/V: BB December 14, 2020 MEMORANDUM TO: Joseph A. Laroski Jr. Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy and Negotiations FROM: James Maeder Deputy Assistant Secretary for Antidumping and Countervailing Duty Operations SUBJECT: Decision Memorandum for the Preliminary Results of the Antidumping Duty Administrative Review: Certain Steel Nails from the People’s Republic of China; 2018-2019 I. SUMMARY The Department of Commerce (Commerce) is conducting an administrative review of the antidumping duty (AD) order on certain steel nails (nails) from the People’s Republic of China (China) for the period of review (POR) from August 1, 2018 through July 31, 2019. We initiated this administrative review with respect to 308 companies.1 We subsequently selected two of these companies as mandatory respondents, Shandong Oriental Cherry Hardware Group Co. Ltd. (Shandong Oriental) and Tianjin Zhonglian Metals Ware Co., Ltd. (Zhonglian). We preliminarily determine that Zhonglian made sales of subject merchandise at prices below normal value (NV). In addition, we preliminarily determine that nine companies, including Zhonglian, are eligible for a separate rate, 10 companies had no shipments, and 287 companies, including Shandong Oriental, are part of the China-wide entity. Finally, we are rescinding this review with respect to The Stanley Works (Langfang) Fastening Systems Co., Ltd. and Stanley Black & Decker Inc. (collectively, Stanley). 1 We note that we inadvertently initiated a review of one company twice, once as “Tianjin Jinghai County Hongli Industry & Business Co., Ltd.“ and again as “Tianjin Jinghai County Hongli Industry and Business Co., Ltd.” We are treating these companies as the same entity for purposes of this segment of the proceeding.

We expect to build more railway lines to offer the possibility to offer more high quality service for the passengers, while the investment is often limited. Therefore, it is very important to decide the pairs of cities to add new railway lines under the condition of limited construction investment in order to optimize the railway line network to maximize the reliability of the railway network to deal with the railway passenger transport task under emergency conditions. In this paper, we firstly define the reliability of the railway networks based on probability theory by analyzing three minor cases. Then we construct a reliability optimization model for the railway network to solve the problem, expecting to enhance the railway network with the limited investment. The goal is to make an optimal decision when choosing where to add new railway lines to maximize the reliability of the whole railway network, taking the construction investment as the main constraint, which is turned to the building mileage limit.

China Program Description, p. 1 of 5 CUNY-BC Study in China: Program Description & Itinerary Tentative Program Dates: May 30-June 20, 2016 Application Deadline: March 21, 2016 Program Director: Professor Shuming Lu Department of Speech Communication Arts & Sciences Brooklyn College, the City University of New York Telephone: 718-951-5225 E-mail: [email protected] This program is designed in such a way that all travel is education-related. The cities we have chosen to visit are all sites of great historical and cultural importance. 1. Beijing is the current capital of China and used to be the capital of several late Chinese dynasties. Many sites in Beijing (e.g., Tiananmen Square, Palace Museum, Forbidden City, the Great Wall, Summer Palace, the Olympic Stadium) are directly related to what we are teaching in our courses on Chinese history, culture, society, and Chinese business & economy. 2. Xi’an was where Chinese dynasties started several thousand years ago and many subsequent emperors established their capitals. It is also the eastern starting point of the ancient overland Silk Road. Sites that strongly support the academic content of our courses are the Terra Cotta Museum, Qin Shihuangdi Emperor’s Mausoleum, Wild Good Pagoda Buddhist Temple & Square, Xuanzang Buddhist Statue, Silk Road Sites, Tang Dynasty Art Museum, Muslim Quarter, and the Great Mosque. 3. Nanjing was the capital of six ancient Chinese dynasties and the capital of the first Republic of China—a place of great significance in modern Chinese history. Ming Dynasty first established its capital here and then moved the capital to Beijing.
