Sunday of the Holy Myrrhbearing Women
Sunday of the Holy Myrrhbearing Women The myrrh-bearers had brought funeral spices and ointments to finish committing Christ’s body to the grave. They were the first to see the empty tomb and were instructed by the risen Lord to bring the joyful news to the apostles. Sts. Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus are also commemorated on this day. There are eight women who are generally identified as the myrrh-bearers. Each of the four Gospels gives a different aspect of the roles of these eight women at the cross and at the tomb on Easter morning, perhaps since the eight women arrived in different groups and at different times. The eight were: Mary Magdalene Mary, the Theotokos (the Virgin Mary) Joanna Salome Mary the wife of Cleopas (mother of James) Susanna Mary of Bethany (sister of Lazarus) Martha of Bethany (sister of Lazarus) These eight women had been together throughout Jesus’ public ministry. Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Susanna, and others (Luke 8:3) are described as providing for Jesus out of their possessions. These same women also faithfully followed him from Galilee and came up with him to Jerusalem. Troparion (Tone 2) – The Noble Joseph, When he had taken down Your most pure Body from the tree, Wrapped it in fine linen and anointed it with spices, And placed it in a new tomb. But You did rise on the third day, O Lord, Granting the world great mercy. Troparion (Tone 2) – The angel came to the myrrhbearing women at the tomb and said: Myrrh is meet for the dead; But Christ has shown Himself a stranger to corruption! So proclaim: the Lord is risen, Granting the world great mercy! Kontakion (Tone 2) – You did command the myrrh-bearers to rejoice, O Christ! By Your Resurrection, You did stop the lamentation of Eve, O God! You did command Your apostles to preach: The Savior is Risen! Descendants of John Alford b. about 1645 Three Generations This file provides all of what is currently known of the first three generations of John Alford. Folks who would like more information on the descendants of sons James or John should select them from the previous page. 1. John Alford #4656 b. about 1645, probably Virginia, m. Wife is Unknown #4657. John died Mar 14 1710, New Kent Co., VA. The late Tressie Bowman, publisher of the ALFORD FAMILY BULLETIN in a family group record provided to AAFA used the St. Peter's Parish Register and Boddie to compile a family as is shown in this record. Although the church record does prove a John Alford had the children listed there is nothing to prove it was the John who died in 1710. Please note that there is no proof that James was the son of John. There are some who make a William Alford the father of James. It is true that there was a William Alford in the area at the same time who had about equal circumstances as James. We lean to John but you can take your pick. There are important notes at the records of most of the children. Please don't draw any conclusions about them without first reviewing those records. John's date of birth is nothing more than a guess- as is his place of birth. See also Boddie, John HISTORICAL SOUTHERN FAMILIES, Vol XII, page 57-58. His death was reported in The Parish Register of Saint Peter's New Kent County, Virginia 1680-1787 published by The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America in the state of Virginia, 1904, Richmond. -

The Arrest and Trials of Jesus Grateful Acknowledgments to Chuck Swindoll
The Arrest and Trials of Jesus Grateful Acknowledgments to Chuck Swindoll ------------ --------- --------- --------- ------- According to the Gregorian calendar, the arrest and trials of Jesus took place on April 6th, 32AD, during a nine hour period. The Jews put together a plan that was illegal, fallacious, unfair, and unwarranted. No man was ever more innocent, and no man ever stood before six more illegal and unfair trials than Jesus. The Arrest Now, in order to bring Jesus to trial, they had to first arrest him. And in order for there to be an arrest, two things had to take place: The cooperation of Judas, and the location of Jesus. They tried to grab Him on other occasions, but He always alluded their arrest (because His time was not yet: John 7:8). So Judas agreed, for 30 pieces of silver, to betray Jesus Christ. It was the cost of a common slave, a very cheap price. But for 30 pieces of silver, Judas really sold HIMSELF, not Christ. On the night of His arrest, while Jesus was in the garden (John 18:1), He prayed to the father that He would not have to go through this suffering and crucifixion, but He wanted to do the Father's Will above all (Matthew 26:39-44). Once He was assured that it was the Father's Will that He go to the cross, He cooperated willingly with the arrest, even with the abuse that His body would suffer. Up until now, He had not gone under the blows of Romans or Jews. First it was night. -
Inventory to Archival Boxes in the Motion Picture, Broadcasting, and Recorded Sound Division of the Library of Congress
INVENTORY TO ARCHIVAL BOXES IN THE MOTION PICTURE, BROADCASTING, AND RECORDED SOUND DIVISION OF THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS Compiled by MBRS Staff (Last Update December 2017) Introduction The following is an inventory of film and television related paper and manuscript materials held by the Motion Picture, Broadcasting and Recorded Sound Division of the Library of Congress. Our collection of paper materials includes continuities, scripts, tie-in-books, scrapbooks, press releases, newsreel summaries, publicity notebooks, press books, lobby cards, theater programs, production notes, and much more. These items have been acquired through copyright deposit, purchased, or gifted to the division. How to Use this Inventory The inventory is organized by box number with each letter representing a specific box type. The majority of the boxes listed include content information. Please note that over the years, the content of the boxes has been described in different ways and are not consistent. The “card” column used to refer to a set of card catalogs that documented our holdings of particular paper materials: press book, posters, continuity, reviews, and other. The majority of this information has been entered into our Merged Audiovisual Information System (MAVIS) database. Boxes indicating “MAVIS” in the last column have catalog records within the new database. To locate material, use the CTRL-F function to search the document by keyword, title, or format. Paper and manuscript materials are also listed in the MAVIS database. This database is only accessible on-site in the Moving Image Research Center. If you are unable to locate a specific item in this inventory, please contact the reading room.
