Matthew Craig Associate T 416.862.8280 F 416.862.8247 [email protected] Matt is an Associate in the Toronto office who articled at the Practice Areas firm after obtaining his Juris Doctor from the University of Discipline and Termination of Employment Western Ontario. While at Western, Matt was involved as a Employment Standards caseworker with the Sport Solution Clinic where he Collective Bargaining provided guidance and advice to members of Canada’s National Sports Teams on a number of legal issues, Labour Relations including compensation and disciplinary issues. Prior to joining the Firm, Matt spent five years working at the National Hockey League Players’ Association (“NHLPA”) where he managed various marketing and sponsorship programs. Matt also played a key role in several joint NHL/NHLPA international ventures, including the NHL European Premiere Games, the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics, and the World Cup of Hockey. While still at the NHLPA in 2012-13, Matt became immersed in certain aspects of the collective bargaining process eventually leading to his decision to attend law school the following year. Matt later returned to the NHLPA after his first year of law school where he was tasked with preparing briefs and providing legal analysis as part of the National Hockey League’s salary arbitration process. Prior to his work with the NHLPA, Matt completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Yale University where he was a 4-year letter winner for the Varsity Hockey Team. Upon graduating, Matt played one season of professional hockey for the Edinburgh Capitals of the UK’s Elite Ice Hockey League. He later worked as an analyst with the Edinburgh-based, Sainsbury’s Bank Education University of Western Ontario, J.D., 2016 Yale University, B.A. Economics, 2006 Bar Admission Law Society of Upper Canada (Ontario), 2017 .

EDI NBVRG H+ THE CITY OF EDINBURGH COUNCIL Leader’s Report City of Edinburgh Council 20 August 2009 1 Ewan Williamson, Lothian & Borders Fire Fighter It was with shock and sadness that we learned of the death of 35 year old Fire Fighter, Ewan Williamson, on 12 July, as he tackled a major blaze in the city. At his funeral service, in a packed St Giles Cathedral on 22 July, tributes were paid to an inspirational professional, a member of a loving family and an outgoing sporty man. Lothian and Borders Chief Fire Officer, Brian Allaway, spoke of Mr Williamson as “a fire fighter’s fire fighter”, summing up simply and emotionally with “you were one of us and we will miss you terribly.” Ewan made the ultimate sacrifice as he did his job of securing the safety of people and buildings. We will be forever in his debt. 2 Modernising Pay Dispute in Services for Communities The unofficial action in Services for Communities which began on XthJune is still continuing. By the time the Council meets on 20 August this will be converted to official action following the recent ballot. The action will take the form of an overtime ban and a work to rule. Private contractors are now deployed on trade waste collection, recycling, domestic refuse collection and street cleaning. All services are running normally at the time of writing with the exception of garden waste which is scheduled to return to normal over the next two weeks. Regrettably, there remains the possibility that services could be disrupted further depending on any continued industrial action.

BRIDGEPORT SOUND TIGERS: COACHES BIOS BRENT THOMPSON - HEAD COACH Brent Thompson is in his eighth season as head coach of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, which also marks his 10th year in the New York Islanders organization. Thompson was originally hired to coach the Sound Tigers on June 28, 2011 and led the team to a division title in 2011-12 before being named assistant South Division coach of the Islanders for two seasons (2012-14). On May 2, 2014, the Islanders announced Thompson would return to his role as head coach of the Sound Tigers. He is 260-225-53 in 538 career regular-season games as Bridgeport's head coach. Thompson became the Sound Tigers' all-time winningest head coach on Jan. 28, 2017, passing Jack Capuano with his 134th career victory. Prior to his time in Bridgeport, Thompson served as head coach of the Alaska Aces (ECHL) for two years (2009-11), winning the Kelly Cup Championship in 2011. During his two seasons as head coach in Alaska, Thompson amassed a record of 83- 50-11 and won the John Brophy Award as ECHL Coach of the Year in 2011 after leading the team to a record of 47-22-3. Thompson also served as a player/coach with the CHL’s Colorado Eagles in 2003-04 and was an assistant with the AHL’s Peoria Rivermen from 2005-09. Before joining the coaching ranks, Thompson enjoyed a 14-year professional playing career from 1991-2005, which included 121 NHL games and more than 900 professional contests. The Calgary, AB native was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the second round (39th overall) of the 1989 NHL Entry Draft.
