Thompson was originally hired to coach the Sound Tigers on June 28, 2011 and led the team to a division title in 2011-12 before being named assistant South Division coach of the Islanders for two seasons (2012-14). On May 2, 2014, the Islanders announced Thompson would return to his role as head coach of the Sound Tigers. He is 260-225-53 in 538 career regular-season games as Bridgeport's head coach. Thompson became the Sound Tigers' all-time winningest head coach on Jan. 28, 2017, passing Jack Capuano with his 134th career victory. Prior to his time in Bridgeport, Thompson served as head coach of the Alaska Aces (ECHL) for two years (2009-11), winning the Kelly Cup Championship in 2011. During his two seasons as head coach in Alaska, Thompson amassed a record of 83- 50-11 and won the John Brophy Award as ECHL Coach of the Year in 2011 after leading the team to a record of 47-22-3. Thompson also served as a player/coach with the CHL’s Colorado Eagles in 2003-04 and was an assistant with the AHL’s Peoria Rivermen from 2005-09. Before joining the coaching ranks, Thompson enjoyed a 14-year professional playing career from 1991-2005, which included 121 NHL games and more than 900 professional contests. The Calgary, AB native was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the second round (39th overall) of the 1989 NHL Entry Draft. ERIC BOGUNIECKI - ASSISTANT COACH Eric Boguniecki was named assistant coach of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on July 12, 2011 and is now in his 10th season in that capacity, including his eighth year under head coach Brent Thompson. Boguniecki and Thompson previously teamed up in Bridgeport during the 2011-12 season, when the Sound Tigers went 41-26-9 in the regular season to win the Northeast Division - the second division title in team history. Prior to joining the Sound Tigers, the West Haven, CT native enjoyed a 13-year professional career, including stops in the NHL with the Florida Panthers, St. Louis Blues, Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Islanders. During the 2002-03 season with the Blues, he posted NHL career highs in goals (22), assists (27) and points (49). An eighth-round pick (193rd overall) of the Blues in the 1993 NHL Draft, Boguniecki won the Les Cunningham Award as the American Hockey League’s Most Valuable Player in 2001-02 with the Worcester IceCats. Boguniecki ended his playing career as a player/coach with the Alaska Aces of the ECHL, alongside Brent Thompson. Boguniecki attended the University of New Hampshire from 1993-97 and played four seasons with the Wildcats. He was named assistant coach on July 7, 2016. A native of Winchester, ON, Carkner played more than 800 games during his professional career, including NHL contests between the Islanders, San Jose Sharks and Ottawa Senators. He amassed 40 goals, 139 assists, 179 points and 2,312 penalty minutes as a pro, including a career-high 335 penalty minutes in his first year with the Cleveland Barons in 2001-02. During his lengthy AHL career, he posted 152 points (36g, 116a) and 1,756 penalty minutes in 587 games and finished his career with 14 points (4g, 10a) in 60 games as a Sound Tiger. A second-round pick (58th overall) of the Montreal Canadiens in the 1999 NHL Draft, Carkner was never shy to help his teammates on the ice, or the community off of it. He was named the Sound Tigers recipient of the 2015-16 IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year Award for his outstanding contributions to the Bridgeport community - the sixth time he earned the award. In addition, Carkner won the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in 2006-07. • P-Bruins Stomp Wolf Pack to Lower Magic Number to Two
Providence Bruins Nathan Roberts [email protected], 401.680.4734 Eddie Pannone [email protected] P-BRUINS STOMP WOLF PACK TO LOWER MAGIC NUMBER TO TWO Providence, RI – The Providence Bruins defeated the Hartford Wolf Pack Friday night 6-3, lowering their magic number to clinch a playoff berth to two. The P-Bruins got two goals from Ryan Fitzgerald along with goals from Anton Blidh, Jordan Szwarz, Trent Frederic and Austin Czarnik while Zane McIntyre made his 42nd start of the season in net. Providence dominated the zone time in the opening period and it showed on the scoreboard. After being held scoreless despite an 8-1 shots edge through six minutes, Blidh gave the P-Bruins a 1-0 lead at 7:59. Taking a pass from Cameron Hughes, Blidh started a 2-on-1 break with Jack Studnicka up the right side. Rather than pass, Blidh surprised Hartford goalie Alexander Georgiev with a wrister from inside the right circle for his 11th goal of the season. Just 1:11 later, Szwarz doubled that lead with his 21st goal of the season. At the bottom of the left circle, he blasted a one-timer in off a pass from Fitzgerald to give Providence a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. That domination continued into period number two with Providence tacking on a trio of goals. Fitzgerald found the back of the net on the power play at 2:58, tapping a beautiful feed from Czarnik in from the crease to make things 3-0 Providence. He struck again at 8:37, taking advantage of a poor Hartford clearing attempt.

  • April 2, 2021 Vs Cape Breton Eagles
GAME PREVIEW Happy Easter! This afternoon’s Good Friday matchup features your Halifax Mooseheads (13-16-5-3) vs the visiting Cape Breton Eagles (12-22-1-0) at 4pm at Scotiabank Centre. The Moose are looking for a bounce back game after a one-sided loss last night to Charlottetown that saw the Islanders not only win 6-2 but dominate on the shot clock 45-15. Halifax played that game with a depleted lineup as Senna Peeters, Cam Whynot, Kyle Petten and leading scorer Elliot Desnoyers all sat out as a precaution with virus symptoms. All players have tested negative for Covid-19. All four players will be game-time decisions this afternoon. Defenceman Jake Furlong was injured when he took a puck to the face last night and will miss today’s game. Fans not in attendance can watch on Eastlink channels 10 or 610, listen on NEWS 957 or subscribe to the QMJHL webcast at https://qmjhl.neulion.com/qmjhl/. SCOTTY’S 3 WHOPPERS OF THE GAME MORE OF THE SAME The QMJHL announced four additional games in April for the Mooseheads yesterday, all of them against Charlottetown. The Herd will play two on the road and twice at home (April 9th & 17th) while there is strong indications that play will be opened up to facing the New Brunswick teams as the regular season wraps up and the playoffs begin. That will be a welcome sight for all of us. Q DEBUT X2 Dylan Chisholm was signed and called up on an emergency basis last night to fill in on the blue line.
