Jason Lindsey (Athletic Trainer), Bob Mills and I visited a spot that I had been to several years ago: The Gumbo House, which is located two blocks from our hotel in downtown Anchorage. Bob and I went for the gumbo. I took the Kitchen Sink which was a little bit of everything, including shrimp, pork, chicken, oysters and sausage. Bob went for the Shrimp Gumbo, which also included Andouille sausage. The gumbo is hot when served and spicy hot when eaten. Jay opted for the Pork Po Boy which also comes in the gumbo selections, and when Jay eats it should come with a bib. We decided to try the blackened chicken wings with cilantro as an appetizer, which we really didn’t need when we got our entrée. The Gumbo can be ordered either by the bowl or by the bucket. The bucket, for the record, is the size of two bowls. Speaking with the manager, I asked if people got the bucket to share and he stated that he has one customer who comes in and has a bucket of gumbo and a Po boy. Bob and I both commented on the fact that it was hard enough to fi nish a bowl, never mind a bucket plus the sandwich that Jay was taking down. We also ordered and some blackened chicken wings with cilantro that we really didn’t need but wanted to try, we were not disappointed. The wings had a nice kick to them, and we enjoyed that they were broiled instead of fried. Prices range from $12 to $17. We held a team meal on Sunday since we played three games in three nights. When we got to the airport after our game on Sunday, we headed to Humpy’s at the airport. Their down- town site is a favorite with players for pre and post game meals. I went with the black- ened salmon burger. It was superb. Jay and Bob got the halibut and chips, also excellent. Several of the players went with the crab nuggets as an entrée as it is a huge portion and, I have been told, unreal. Humpy’s also has a food challenge that was featured in Man versus Food. It consists of 7 crab cakes 1 foot of reindeer sausage, 3 lbs of crab legs, side dishes and wild berry crisp. If you can fi nish it in a hour and a half it’s free! If not, it’s $124.99. Next trip is back to Boise. Last time we didn’t get a chance to really explore since we played back-to-back games. This time I have a couple of old hangouts to visit. Till later, Bon Appetite! Boy Scout Day The Tri-City Storm held its second annual Boy Scout Day on Dec, 13 at a special afternoon game. Boy Scouts came not only from Kearney but the surrounding central Nebraska area also. Some came from as far away as North Platte. Cheers for the team were enthusiastic and slightly higher in pitch because there were so many boys in the crowd. The official attendance was 4,133, the highest so far this season. While most of the boys could be found in their seats, a few were “glued to the glass,” they were so interested in the action on the ice. Birthdays There are two January birthdays to note this time. Edgar Rybakov turned 18 on January 5. Ryan Forgaard will be 20 on the last day in January. 1 Roster Changes Player Profiles The roster has continued to change during the past month since the Christmas break.
