May not be reproduced or copied in any manner whatsoever. 1 Preface This field trips guide book has been written by Dave Carter and Ed Funk of the Northern Virginia Photographic Society, NVPS. Both are experienced and successful field trip organizers. Joseph Miller, NVPS, coordinated the printing and production of this guide book. In our view, field trips can provide an excellent opportunity for camera club members to find new subject matter to photograph, and perhaps even more important, to share with others the love of making pictures. Photography, after all, should be enjoyable. The pleasant experience of an outing together with other photographers in a picturesque setting can be stimulating as well as educational. It is difficullt to consistently arrange successful field trips, particularly if the club's membership is small. We hope this guide book will allow camera club members to become more active and involved in field trip activities. There are four camera clubs that make up the Northern Virginia Alliance of Camera Clubs McLean, Manassas-Warrenton, Northern Virginia and Vienna. All of these clubs are located within 45 minutes or less from each other. It is hoped that each club will be receptive to working together to plan and conduct field trip activities. There is an enormous amount of work to properly arrange and organize many field trips, and we encourage the field trips coordinator at each club to maintain close contact with the coordinators at the other clubs in the Alliance and to invite members of other clubs to join in the field trip. -

(Attachment 1) Changes Made Since Public Hearing Draft Attached is the final draft of the plan amendment, including all Planning Board-requested changes from worksessions #1 and #2, as well as all appendices. Please focus your attention on the following pages and issues: 1. Page 34, added language to clarify the addition of the Northwest Branch Trail to the plan, in order to facilitate mountain biking access between US 29 (Colesville Rd) and Wheaton Regional Park. BACKGROUND The Rachel Carson Greenway, shown in FIGURE 1, stretches for 25 miles from the southern boundary of Montgomery County northward to the Patuxent River State Park. The Countywide Park Trails Plan (1998) identified the need to study this corridor in more detail. In 2003, the Planning Board included the Rachel Carson Greenway Trail Corridor Plan in the 2004-2006 Trails Work Program. In July 2004, the Planning Board approved the plan objectives, plan schedule and the public participation element of the Rachel Carson Greenway Trail Corridor Plan. In accord with the plan schedule approved by the Planning Board, staff has since sponsored two community meetings on plan issues and opportunities (one in the southern part of the corridor, the other in the northern part). Staff has also met with the Sandy Spring Civic Association, the Board of the Sandy Spring Museum, the Neighbors of Northwest Branch and Sandy Spring Green Space. Those attending the above meetings generally expressed support for the concept of an interpretive- based 25-mile greenway. -

The clinic was sponsored by TROT and held at Schooley Mill Park. There were nine TROT members and their horses working in the ring and several other TROT Horse Expo and Lisbon Parade) members auditing. Schooley Mill Park's ring was the perfect place for riders to gain Holiday Gift Ideas (also p. 11 & 12) 2 experience and build con!dence, asking their horses to negotiate obstacles that Jacquie Cowan-new AA Co coord. 2 simulated what a rider may !nd on a trail ride. Bell Western Maryland received a major economic As military operations of the French and Indian and boost in 1806, and secured a place in American history, Revolutionary Wars subsided, the young nation directed when Cumberland was selected as the starting point for its attention to economic enterprises. Calls for improved the National Road, America’s first federally funded highway roads were issued by commercial interests and land speculators that eventually stretched from Cumberland, Maryland who realized the monetary rewards of accessing natural to Vandalia, Illinois. News and Notes From The PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY JANUARY 1974 Vol. II, No. 1 VOLUME II With this, the January issue of News and Notes, we begin our second year of publication. When the first issue appeared last March we were uncertain as to whether a second one would see the light of day. However an enthusiastic response from our readers brought encouragement for further effort. Although the production of News and Notes has been largely a singular effort, your editor desires to take note of efforts put forth by individual members. Regular contributions by Paul Lanham and Ted Bissell have added greatly to the general scope of this publication. In addition, the general knowledge and contacts of Susanna Cristofane, Orva Heissenbuttel, John Brennan, James Shreve and James Wilfong have provided information on current happenings on the local scene. These and many others have, hopefully, made News and Notes more interesting for our readers. Also, we are indebted to our Corresponding Secretary, Edith Bagot. The added burden of circularizing the membership 12 times per year, instead of the usual eight times, has been cheerfully accepted. We are indeed thankful. In our effort to build a staff to produce News and Notes in the future, we have asked for volunteers. We are pleased to announce that Mrs. Leslie (Betty) Tichnor of District Heights will be contributing to the publication on a regular basis in the future. We hope that others will join us to help improve the quality and scope of our efforts. As always, we solicit the contributions and comments of all of our readers. -
