SECONDHAND

Tankers:

Jebsen has sold a further of their coated Suezmaxes, disposing now of “SKS SATILLA” (158,843 tdw, Built 2006 Hyundai Samho, epoxy, 3 pumps, MAN-B&W) for US$ 23 million with ss/dd passed 12/2020. Buyers are Vietnamese as was the case with “SKS SEGURA” and “SKS SPEY” which were concluded earlier this year.

Greek buyers have agreed to pay US$ 18.1 million for the coated LR2 “CHAMPION PLEASURE” (105,852 tdw, Built 2008 Namura, epoxy, 3 pumps, MAN-B&W).

Vegoil trader “LEON M” (12,959 tdw, Built 2008 STX, IMO II/III, epoxy, 10 tanks/pumps, MAN-B&W) has been concluded to Vietnamese for US$ 5.5 million.

Bulkcarriers:

The BDI closed the week marginally down at 2,438 (2,596). . Cape size T/C rates continue to tumble, losing US$ 4,681 to close at US$ 20,933 pd (25,614) with other sizes at US$ 26,400 (24,841) (), US$ 26,941 (27,542) (Supramax), US$ 24,065 (24,170) (Handy).

Kamsarmax “ECLIPSE” (79,474 tdw, Built 2010 Jinhai, BWTS fitted, MAN-B&W – next ss 4/2025) has been sold within Norway for US$ 16.8 million, buyers reported as Sterling Shipping.

A bloc of six vessels have been sold to CDB Leasing for a total price of US$ 129.8 million, they are:

CDB Leasing is also attributed with the acquisition of the following for the total sum of US$ 140.45 million; it’s not clear in either of these transactions whether BB charter back is involved, there is a strong likelihood:

In a single-vessel sale, Greek buyers are paying US$ 23.5 million for the Ultramax “GH DAWN RUN” (63,561 tdw, Built 2018 Yangfan, cranes 4 x 30 tons, BWTS fitted. MAN- B&W).

The Onassis Group is selling three Supramax units to Costamare, the 2011-built “OLYMPIC PEGASUS” (56,726 tdw, Built 2011 Cosco Guangdong, cranes 4 x 30 tons, MAN-B&W – next ss 1/2026, dd 4/2024) for US$ 15 million and two older Japan-builts, “OLYMPIC PEACE” (55,709 tdw, Built 2006 Oshima, cranes 4 x 30 tons, MAN-B&W – ss/dd due 06/2021) and “OLYMPIC PRIDE” (55,705 tdw, Built 2006 Mitsui, cranes 4 x 30 tons, BWTS fitted, MAN-B&W - 01/2026 DD 04/2024) for an en bloc price of US$ 25.5 million.

In other Supramax sales, Chinese are paying US$ 15.9 million for the Crown 58 “STAR ERACLE” (58,018 tdw, Built 2012 Yangzhou Dayang, cranes 4 x 36 tons, grabs, no BWTS, MAN-B&W – next ss/dd 9/2022). “AMS PEGASUS III” (56,521 tdw, Built 2012 Jiangsu Hantong, cranes 4 x 36 tons, MAN-B&W – next ss/dd 7/2022) has achieved US$ 14.65 million. Kawasaki-built “HOUYU” (55,471 tdw, Built 2010 Kawasaki, cranes 4 x 30 tons, MAN-B&W – next ss 7/2025) is sold for US$ 15.5 million; Eagle Bulk’s “TERN” (50,209 tdw, Built 2003 Mitsui, cranes 4 x 30 tons, MAN-B&W – next ss/dd due 8/2023) has Chinese paying US$ 9.6 million.

Handy size “YOU & ISLAND” (38,309 tdw, Built 2011 Shimanami, cranes 4 x 30 tons, MAN-B&W – next ss 11/2021) is reported to Taylor Maritime at a price in the low US$ 15 millions. Having purchased her in the mid US$ 9 millions in 2018, Interlink Maritime have now sold their “INTERLINK COMITY” (37,302 tdw, Built 2010 Huatai H.I., cranes 4 x 30 tons, BWTS fitted, Wartsila – last ss 2/2020) to Greeks in the high US$ 12 millions.

Sales of smaller handies include “GRACE OCEAN” (33,296 tdw, Built 2013 Shin Kurushima, cranes 4 x 30 tons, BWTS fitted, Mitsubishi – next ss 10/2023, dd passed 5/2021) to Greek buyers at US$ 15.2 million. Imabari 28 “CHERRY ISLAND” (28,220 tdw, Built 2014 I-S Shipyard, cranes 4 x 30 tons, BWTS fitted, MAN-B&W) has gone at US$ 11 million with ss/dd due 11/2021. An older version, “DESPINA ANGEL” (28,534 tdw, Built 2007 Shimanami, cranes 4 x 30 tons, MAN-B&W) obtained US$ 8.25 million. “RYOGA” (24,959 tdw, Built 2011 Murakami, cranes 4 x 30 tons, MAN-B&W – next ss 8/2024) has been concluded at US$ 8.8 million.

Singledecker “LALINDE” (18,909 tdw, Built 2006 Yamanishi, 4HH, cranes 3 x 30 tons, MAN-B&W – ss 5/2021) has obtained US$ 6.8 million, from the same builders, the similar “BL COSMOS” (18,976 dwt, Built 2004 Yamanishi, 3HH, cranes 2 x 30 tons, MAN-B&W – next ss/dd 3/2024) sold for US$ 4.4 million. “MAXIMUS I” (18,200 tdw, Built 2002 Shikoku Dockyard, cranes 3 x 30 tons, B&W – next ss 11/2022) – got US$ 4.5 million.

Containers:

As reflection of the extraordinary conditions in container shipping, CMA-CGM, the world’s third largest liner company, has reported net profit of US$ 2.1 billion for 1Q 2021, an increase of about 2,000% over the same period in 2020.

Maersk is paying US$ 38 million for Doehle’s “BLANDINE” (5,301 TEU, 65,700 tdw, Built 2009 Zhejiang Ouhua, 32.2m , Wartsila).

Nord Reederei has sold a pair of Panamax beam CVs, “NORDAUTUMN” (3,586 TEU, 46,309 tdw, Built 2008 STX, MAN-B&W) and sister “NORDSUMMER” (Built 2007) for in excess of US$ 66 million en bloc. In December 2020, a further sister “NORDSPRING” (Built 2007) was reported to have obtained in the US$ 10-11 million range.

In February, Songa Containers exercised purchase options to buy “CITY OF HONG KONG” (2,578 TEU, 34,295 dwt, Built Xiamen 2009,) and “SONGA HAYDN” (3,534 TEU, 42,002 dwt, Built Shanghai Shipyard 2010) for US$ 10.5/US$ 8.5 million respectively. These two vessels have now been resold for US$ 58 million en bloc.

Sea Consortium has sold “X-PRESS KHYBER” (2,702 TEU, 38,096 tdw, Built 2007 Nordseewerke, gearless, MAN-B&W) to European buyers for US$ 24.5 million having purchased her in 2018 for US$ 12.3 million.

MSC is spending US$ 16.5 million to acquire “SCIO SKY” (2,732 TEU, 39,307 dwt, Built 2002 Gdansk, gearless, MAN-B&W). Delivery is likely to take place late in the year, current t/c to Sealand at US$ 14,000 per day lasts until October-December. MSC is also buying a pair of older geared feeders from Contship, Greece – they are “CONTSHIP GEM” (1,102 TEU, 12,895 tdw, Built 2003 Damen Ukraine, cranes 2 x 45 tons, MAN – ss 10/2018) and “CONTSHIP HUB” (Built Constanza 2003, cranes 2 x 40 tons), they are paying US$ 14 million for the two.

The gearless “ELKE” (956 TEU, 11,023 dwt, Built Qingshan 2005, MAN-B&W – next ss 7/2025) has achieved a price of US$ 6 million from European buyers.

NEWBUILDING

Korean builders have won significant orders in the LNG and sectors. More 2024 deliveries are being reported as earlier slots are filled.

Suezmax – Euronav has gone to Hyundai Samho with an order for two option one about 159,000 dwt tankers for delivery by February 2024, price US$ 66.2 million each. This replaces Euronav’s earlier Suezmax order at Daehan which was cancelled.

Containers 13,100 TEU – Wan Hai Lines has ordered four 13,100 TEU CVs at Samsung, deliveries 2Q 2023 – estimated price at least US$ 120 million each.

Containers 7,000 TEU – Eastern Pacific Shipping has placed an order at New Times for four option two 7,000 TEU CVs with deliveries 2023/2024 – estimated price at least US$ 70 million per vessel basis conventional fuel. ESP holds an option to upgrade the specification for LNG/dual fuel operation.

LNG 200,000 cbm – four 200,000 cbm LNG carriers have been ordered at Hyundai H.I. for a/c Dynagas with deliveries 2023/2024, price US$ 198.8 million per vessel.

LNG 180,000 cbm – options for two 180,000 cbm LNG carriers have been declared by Maran Gas at Samsung, price US$ 187 million each, deliveries by July, 2024.

LNG 174,000 cbm – Hyundai LNG has placed a contract for one 174,000 cbm LNG carrier at Daewoo for delivery 4Q 2023, price US$ 195.8 million. Intended for charter to Repsol.

LPG – Hyundai Mipo is to build an additional 40,000 cbm fully refrigerated LPG carrier for a/c Brave Maritime with delivery 3Q 2023, bringing the owner’s total order to four vessels, price about US$ 47 million each.

Self unloader – Algoma Central Corp has exercised an option at Yangzijiang for a Seawaymax self-unloader of excess 38,000 dwt. that will be delivered in early 2024
