Join us for a star-studded line up of artists as we celebrate our 40th season and look confidently to our future.” A full schedule of artists and programs are listed below. This year’s Festival brings several outstanding artists, including seven of the world’s greatest chamber ensembles, several winners from recent international competitions, and an impressive line-up of pianists. Returning artists include the Brentano Quartet, Dover Quartet, clarinetist Anthony McGill, as well as debuts appearances from Miro Quartet, pianist Jan Lisieki, violinist Tessa Lark and pianist Simone DInnerstein. Tuba Skinny est un groupe américain de jazz Nouvelle- Orléans formé en 2009, composé de divers instrumentistes dont un tuba, un trombone, un cornet, un banjo ténor, une guitare, des voix, du washboard, une clarinette. Ce groupe, dont le nom signifie littéralement « tuba maigre », produit une musique inspirée par le jazz précoce des années 1920 et 1930. Depuis sa formation, le groupe composé à l'origine de musiciens de rue depuis constitué en groupe de scène, s'est produit partout dans le monde, lors de festivals de rue ou dans des salles de concert.     Biography -- Printable Version Peter Wolf's Historical Biography Written & Researched by Bryan Wiser, and Sheila Warren with Mimi Fox. Born in New York City, Peter grew up in the Bronx during the mid-1950's in a small, three-room apartment where he lived with his parents, older sister, two cats, dog and parakeet. For some time, Peter lived with his grandmother, an actress in New York City's Yiddish Theater. She and Peter had a strong bond, and she affectionately named him "Little Wolf" for his energetic and rambunctious ways. His father was a musician, vaudevillian and singer of light opera. Like Peter did years later, his father left home at age fourteen to join the Schubert Theater Touring Company with which he traveled the country performing light operas such as The Student Prince and Merry Widow. He had his own radio show called The Boy Baritone, which featured new songs from Tin Pan Alley, and was a member of the Robert Shaw Chorale. As a result of such artistic pursuits, Peter's father underwent long periods of unemployment that created a struggle to make financial ends meet. Peter's mother was an elegant and attractive woman who taught inner-city children in the South Bronx for 27 years. A political activist, union organizer and staunch civil rights advocate, she supported racial equality by attending many of the southern "freedom rides" and marches. Peter's older sister was also a teacher as well as a photographer who now works as an advocate for persons with disabilities. She continues her mother's tradition, often marching on Washington to support the rights of the disabled.

    Summer 2006 After the Rain Irma Thomas (Rounder) New Orleans songstress Irma Thomas has endured a lot over the course of forty years in the game. Beginning her career in 1960, Thomas hit a high note with many forward-thinking ladies upon releasing her debut single, “You Can Have My Husband (But Don’t Mess With My Man).” Soon Thomas was able to celebrate the charting of several hits on Billboard, and found herself being covered by the likes of Otis Redding and the Rolling Stones within five years of recording her first song. With a sassy voice that could stop Patti Labelle or Aretha Franklin cold, Thomas has been blazing trails ever since, touring virtually nonstop, running a successful nightclub with her husband and raising a family in between. Her most recent release, After the Rain, finds Thomas exploring a past steeped in blues and gospel, alongside upbeat songs championing women’s independence. “I Count the Tears” resounds with old-school harmonies reminiscent of so many doo- wop songs, where “These Honey Dos” bounds through jazzily, piano and bass asserting themselves as mightily as Thomas’s lyrics addressing an unappreciative partner. “Stone Survivor” shows Thomas in her element, rebuilding and redefining her personal history through sound, where the album’s closer, “Shelter In the Rain,” could easily be taken for a hopeful, piano-driven love letter to her hometown in a post-Hurricane Katrina world. After the Rain reveals some of the best things about Irma Thomas’ charm as a performer and the powerful voice backing it all – each of the thirteen tracks engage listeners with melodies and lyrics that have staying power for days, while serving as testament to a great sense of wit and an unstoppable spirit.

    Down Home Groovin’ With Big Al and the Heavyweights Times are very challenging right now. There can be no doubt about that. This pandemic is robbing us of our loved ones, the economy is tanked worldwide, once bustling cities now look like ghost-towns, businesses are closing down while many will likely never reopen, jobs are on hold, millions have no income and are in need of food, and to top it all off, we are hunkered down in our homes, wondering when this nightmare will end. Left with only our thoughts, it is all too easy to slip into a deep funk and lose all hope. It is worth remembering, that out of significant pain, some of the best musical genres in the world arose, weaving tales of hardship set to music, that penetrates the depth of our collective souls. The blues originated in the Deep South in the post Civil War era, conveying stories of the pain of slavery and the toll it took on African descendants, while combining African musical traditions, African-American work songs, spirituals, chants, and ballads, as a means of powerful story-telling. Zydeco music is a genre endemic to southwest Louisiana, from primarily French Creole speakers, blending the blues, rhythm and blues, and the indigenous music of Louisiana Creoles and Cajuns. Roots music is a very broad category of music that includes music from the varied origins of American life. It includes bluegrass, old time music, folk music (particularly from Appalachia), Cajun, and Native American music, while serving as a basis for rock and roll, rhythm and blues, and jazz.
