The Role of Social Media for the Modest Fashion Movement in Indonesia, Master Degree Thesis, Ankara, 2017 Islamic Modest Fashion has become one of the emerging creative industries. It is said that social media has making a role in its development. From designers, hijabi bloggers and then instagrammers, many women are often seen posting their everyday outfits through social media. They want to combine their faith with cutting-edge fashion trend. Muslim consumers have become a potential targeted market due to the increasing of women wearing hijab. Muslim consumers are projected to spend $327 billion on clothing by 2019. Indonesia, as the biggest Muslim majority country, has targeted to be the Center of Islamic Modest Fashion in the world as its national branding by 2020. This study will examine how social media especially blog and Instagram can lead the movement of Islamic Modest Fashion in Indonesia, how it also brings consumer culture to hijab and as the result it triggers Indonesia to brand itself. This study will illustrate how all the elements of fashion industry in Indonesia including the designers, bloggers, instagrammers and also Indonesian Agency for Creative Economy (BEKRAF) work together to make Indonesia the center of Islamic Modest Fashion. This research will be conducted through in-depth interviews with designers, bloggers, instagrammers and agency officials. Besides in- depth interviews, this research will investigate pictures posted on Instagram through semiotic analysis in the context of the Islamic Modest Fashion trend. This research will also contain a literature review of a diverse group of studies on topics related to the study. This research will be examined through several theoretical frameworks including the study of social media, creative industry and consumer culture. Fashion and consumer culture are also two main topics because fashion furthermore leads to the consumer culture. The possible benefit of this research is to be a reference literature of Islamic Modest Fashion especially in an Indonesian context. Endonezya’da Muhafazakar Moda Hareketi’nde Sosyal Medyanın Rolü, Yuksek Lisans Tezi, Ankara, 2017 İslami Tesettür Modası yükselen yaratıcı endüstrilerden biri haline gelmiştir. Sosyal medyanın da bu modanın gelişiminde rolü olduğu söylenebilir. Tasarımcılardan, tesettürlü blog yazarlarından Instagram kullanıcılarına kadar pek çok kadın her gün giydiği kıyafetleri sosyal medya üzerinden yayınlamaktadır. Bu kadınlar dini inanışlarını teknolojinin olanaklarıyla birleştirmektedir. Dünyada tesettür giyen kadın sayısının artmasıyla birlikte Müslüman tüketiciler potansiyel bir hedef pazarı haline gelmiştir. Müslüman tüketicilerin 2019 yılına kadar kıyafet sektöründe 327 milyar dolar harcaması öngörülmektedir. En fazla Müslüman nüfusa sahip olan Endonezya, 2020 yılına kadar dünyanın İslami Tesettür Moda Merkezi olmayı hedeflemektedir. Bu çalışmada blog ve Instagram başta olmak üzere sosyal medyanın Endonezya'da İslami Tesettür Moda akımına nasıl öncülük ettiği, tüketim toplum ile tesettürü birbiriyle nasıl yakınlaştırdığı ve bunun sonucunda Endonezya'nın kendi ulusal markalaşmasına nasıl zemin hazırladığı incelenecektir. Bu çalışma tasarımcıları, blogerları ve Instagram kullanıcılarını da kapsayan moda endüstrisi bileşenleri ile Endonezya Yaratıcı Ekonomi Ajansı’nın (BEKRAF) Endonezya’yı İslami Tesettür Modası’nın merkezi haline getirebilmek için nasıl birlikte çalıştığını gösterecektir. Bu araştırmada tasarımcılarla, blogerlarla, Instagram kullanıcılarıyla ve ajans yetkilileriyle derinlemesine görüşmeler yapılacaktır. Derinlemesine görüşmelerin yanısıra bu araştırmada göstergebilimsel analiz yoluyla Instagram’da paylaşılan fotoğraflar İslami Tesettür Moda akımı bağlamında incelenecektir. Bu araştırma ayrıca çalışma konusuyla ilgili çeşitli literatür taramasını da kapsamaktadır. Araştırmada sosyal medya incelemesi, yaratıcı endüstri ve tüketim kültürü çalışmaları dâhil olmak üzere pek çok teorik çerçeve ile incelemeler yapılacaktır. Moda, tüketim kültürüne zemin hazırladığı için moda ve tüketim kültürü ayrıca çalışmanın iki temel konusunu oluşturmaktadır.     Human Rights of Women Wearing the Veil in Western Europe Research Paper I. Introduction The present paper analyses legislation, policies, and case-law surrounding religious attire in a number of countries in Western Europe and how they affect the human rights of women and girls who wear the veil in Western Europe. It also more broadly analyses discrimination and violence experienced by women wearing the veil in Europe learning from their own voice. Throughout the paper, the terminology ‘veil’ is used to refer to a variety of religious attire worn mostly, but not exclusively, by Muslim women. There are different types of clothing that cover the body. This research is focused on manifestations of veils that are the subject of regulation in several Western European Countries. They include the hijab (a piece of clothing that covers the head and neck, but not the face), niqab (a piece of clothing that covers the face, where only the eyes are visible), burqa (a piece of clothing that covers both the face and eyes), jilbab (a loose piece of clothing that covers the body from head to toe), or abaya, kaftan, kebaya (a loose, often black, full body cover overcoat). The head and body covers are often combined. In several countries, some of these clothing are based on traditional costumes rather than religion and are often worn by rural communities in the countries of origins. The paper also uses the terminology ‘full-face veil’ or ‘face-covering veil’ to refer to both niqab and burqa. Furthermore, it refers to burkini, a swimsuit that covers the body from head to ankles, completed by a dress.

    The Equinet Report ‘Faith in Equality: Religion and Belief in Europe’ highlights recent legal developments that have taken place in the field of discrimination based on religion and belief. LEGAL FRAMEWORK EU protection against discrimination on the grounds of religion and belief is incomplete. EU law specifically prohibits differential treatment based on religion only in the area of employment (including vocational training). This gap would be covered by adopting the Horizontal Directive, proposed in 2008. EMPLOYMENT Discrimination cases have been identified in areas such as recruitment and selection; headgear and religious symbols; religious harassment in the workplace; justified occupational requirement; opting out of certain work tasks; work patterns; and conflicts of rights. EDUCATION Consistent with the trend shown in our 2011 report, a majority of the cases reported to equality bodies across the EU which deal with religious freedom in education are connected to the Muslim religion, particularly with Muslim women’s dress. GOODS & SERVICES In relation to religious discrimination in the provision of goods and services, justifications for discriminatory behaviour towards certain religious groups have to be examined thoroughly, be they health and safety concerns, the need to maintain security or the aim of enhancing integration. MANIFESTING RELIGION & BELIEF IN PUBLIC Although the full-face veil and the burkini are not comparable, they are both the subject of the will of politicians to legislate against forms of religious garments. Our report finds that the European Court of Human Rights' ‘living together’ argument for a blanket ban on the full-face veil does not sufficiently delineate what it means in respect of restricting fundamental rights, including the right to freedom of religion.

Salemba Raya No. 4, Jakarta 10430, Indonesia [email protected] Abstract A film, as a media, acts significantly in popularizing the culture of backpacking tourism, which is closely related to the capitalist values. This research attempts to reveal the capitalist values in Indonesian backpacking films. The data are obtained by applying qualitative content-analysis to 2 (two) Indonesian films, namely Haji Backpacker and Laura & Marsha. The analysis leads to several interesting findings. First, Indonesian backpacking films, either explicitly or implicitly, more-likely prefer foreign tourist destinations. Second, the backpacker ideologies are presented more obviously in the implicit backpacking movie, Laura & Marsha rather than in the more explicit one, Haji Backpacker. Third, films contribute in shifting the ideological meaning of backpacking, which now emphasizes on principle of progress or recency (standardization), individualism (pseudo-individualization and social-cement), and efficiency (fetishism). Further researchers should analyze the effects of the shifting of the meaning based the perspective of the audience and content producers. Di sisi lain, permintaan akan hunian tiap tahunnya terus bertambah. Bahkan berdasarkan data Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS), kebutuhan rumah baru tiap tahunnya sebanyak 800 ribu unit. Adapun merujuk pada data Kementerian Pekerjaan Umum dan Perumahan Rakyat (PUPR) dua tahun lalu, rumah yang mampu dibandung baru 400 ribu unit. Artinya masih kekurangan setengahnya lagi setiap tahunnya. Kini, semua pihak dilbatkan. Holding Perumahan yang dipimpin Perum Perumnas diharapkan bisa mengatasi kebutuhan yang terus bertambah. Untuk menutupi kekurangan (backlog) tersebut, Kementerian Dalam Negeri pun dilibatkan. Strategi disiapkan, termasuk salah satunya adalah pembebasan Izin Mendirikan Bangunan (IMB) untuk pembangunan rumah bagi MBR. Belum cukup sampai di situ. Penggunaan tanah negara atau wakaf untuk rumah susun juga dioptimalkan. Termasuk identifikasi aset lahan yang bekerja sama dengan pemerintah daerah. Jangan juga lupakan dengan deretan kemudahan seperti bantuan dan penyederhanaan perizinan lainnya. Terlepas dari itu, dalam dua tahun masa kelesuan ekonomi ini, Pemerintah terus berupaya mewujudkan target. >> MAMAN Masalah demi masalah memang masih ada. Tak terkecuali adanya kemungkinan salah PEMIMPIN REDAKSI sasaran. Untuk itu, pendataan PNS dan pemaksimalan pelayanan terpadu satu pintu jadi punya peran penting. Satu lagi, sosialisasi—hal yang juga tak kalah pentingnya agar sinergisitas bisa terjalin erat antara pemerintah pusat dan daerah. Dengan begitu, tahun 2017, diyakini akan menjadi tahun kebangkitan properti.

Untuk mengetahui bagaimana wacana dalam film tersebut, peneliti menggunakan metode riset perspektif Teun A. van Dijk. Ada tiga dimensi untuk menganalisis yaitu dimensi teks, kognisi sosial, dan konteks. Di balik terciptanya pesan Islam agama perdamaian terdapat sutradara dan penulis naskah yang beragama Islam. Hanum Salsabiela sebagai penulis novel Bulan Terbelah di Langit Amerika memiliki pengalaman pahit mengenai bagaimana ia sebagai umat Islam mengalami diskriminasi di Eropa. Rizal Mantovani sebagai sutradara yang mengetahui bagaimana pemberitaan mengenai Islam di mancanegara memutuskan untuk memproduksi film tersebut di negara Indonesia yang mayoritas penduduknya beragama Islam. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan untuk menggambarkan Islam sebagai agama perdamaian dalam film tersebut sutradara menggunakan gambaran penduduk Amerika beragama Islam yang toleran dan memilih bersikap damai di tengah maraknya isu terorisme.
