  • Local Plan Review Issues and Options
LOCAL PLAN REVIEW ISSUES AND OPTIONS – EMPLOYMENT, TOURISM AND SUSTAINBLE RURAL DEVELOPMENT Cabinet draft - 22 March 2018 1 CONTENTS 1.0 Introduction 2.0 Economic Development 3.0 Supporting the Visitor Economy 4.0 Sustainable Rural Development 5.0 Next Steps 2 1.0 INTRODUCTION An introduction to Horsham District 1.1 Horsham district is a predominantly rural district, containing the larger market town of Horsham in the north east and a number of smaller villages and towns through the rest of the District. The area is well connected, located mid-way between London and the south coast, and has good road and rail connections to both these areas. The district also has excellent international links, with Gatwick Airport directly adjoining the District boundary to the north east. The population is generally highly skilled, with 47.7% of residents educated to degree level or higher. Horsham boasts one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country. Although a high number of people in the district are employed locally, there are large numbers who commute outside the District to roles where salaries are generally higher. 1.2 The towns and villages in Horsham District are generally historic in nature, with buildings and structures in the district dating back to Norman times and creating attractive and characterful urban environments, many of which are listed buildings or are designated as a Conservation Area. Most settlements offer a number of services and facilities for those who live there including high quality local schools, shops, sports facilities and open spaces, together with some local employment.

  • Aug – Oct 2017 Activities & Events
Aug – Oct 2017 May–July 2017 Activities & Events Activities & Events Programme _________________________________________________________________________________________________ Dear Members In this late Summer/Autumn programme we keep a Summery feel to the Strolls programme, with gardens and tea gardens and cream teas featuring. We also visit a series of lost villages, among many other delights, and can meet, greet and congratulate our new Chairman as he leads us on a Stroll. There is a chance too to (re)-learn to play the game of Croquet, courtesy of Rother Valley Croquet Club at Duncton, for Walkers and Strollers combined. This is preceded by a shorter morning walk. By popular request, the days of the week are included again in the date listings, as most people found them helpful. Also by request, we are trying out including the postcodes of start points for satnav users. However they do need to be used with care - best to check them using your own system. Feedback as to their usefulness on the programme would be welcome. You'll see that September 16 - 23 is our Green Transport week when walks will all be accessible by public transport. Obviously not all transport links will suit everyone but we have tried to provide walks in a variety of areas. Maybe at least some of your route could be done using your own version of park 'n ride. Hopefully everyone who wants the Activities and Events programme has given the office their email address. As from this quarter, this is being sent out by email by default. If you know of anyone who is surprised to find they have not received a programme, could you ask them to get in touch with the office.
