The Embassy cannot assume responsibility for their professional ability or integrity. If you have any complaints or concerns regarding any of the attorneys on this list, please contact us immediately. The attorneys are listed alphabetically, by town, and the order in which they appear has no other significance. This list includes lawyers who handle criminal and civil (inheritance, divorce, etc.) cases and commercial law. A list of lawyers specializing in business law is available from the Embassy's Commercial Section. We are providing this list of attorneys licensed to practice in Romania with the understanding that you will select a legal representative with the same care that you would choose one in the United States. We advise the following: - When making your choice, please take into consideration whether you can easily communicate with the attorney and whether he/she appears responsive. - Please make sure you and your attorney are in clear agreement on the services that will be provided for the fee you pay. The best way to ensure this is to have a written fee agreement. It is wise to keep records and receipts of all payments. - Please understand that the Romanian legal system is substantially different in its procedures from the American. Although many aspects may seem strange to Americans, the basic principles are the same, and the Embassy is aware of no case in recent years in which Americans were discriminated against because of their nationality. Your problem will be handled more effectively if you work with your attorney in the framework of the Romanian system, rather than if you expect that things will be settled “our way”. - Be prepared for a lengthy process: Romanian courts are backlogged, and postponements and delays are very common. If there are special circumstances, your attorney can petition the court for an early trial or hearing date, but such requests are not always granted. The decision of the initial court is often appealed in Romania; in a civil case, however, an appeal cannot be filed until the initial decision is formally recorded by the court, a process that may take additional weeks. The Embassy has no standing to intervene in these processes. You may receive additional ifnormation about the attorneys on this list by contacting the local bar association (“Barou”).     NOTE REGARDING THE DISSOLUTION OF THE WORKING POINT OF SC FONDUL PROPRIETATEA SA IN 15 CALEA VICTORIEI, ENTRANCE E, 2nd FLOOR, SECTOR 3, BUCHAREST SUBJECT TO THE APPROVAL OF THE EXTRAORDINARY GENERAL MEETING OF SHAREHOLDERS DATED 29 NOVEMBER 2010 Taking into consideration the provisions of the Articles of incorporation of SC Fondul Proprietatea SA regarding the headquarter relocation, as well as letter no. 16651 of 18 August 2010 sent by the Romanian National Securities Commission, the former Directorate of the company decided to move the registered office from 17 Apolodor St., sector 5, Bucharest (the building where the headquarter of the Ministry of Public Finance is located), to 63-81 Calea Buzesti, 7th floor, sector 1, Bucharest, according to the rental contract signed between SC Fondul Proprietatea SA and Franklin Templeton Investment Management Limited United Kingdom, Bucharest Branch, on 29 July 2010. Upon establishment, the office of SC Fondul Proprietatea SA was in the same building as the headquarter of the Ministry of Public Finance, because the Ministry of Public Finance was a sole shareholder and no other headquarter was identified. In fact, the activity of SC Fondul Proprietatea SA has been developed at several working points, such as at World Trade Center and at Bucharest Financial Plaza, even since 2006. At present, the address of Bucharest Financial Plaza is registered with the National Trade Register Office as working point, although the rental contract expired on 30 June 2010. Having regard that the existence of the working point of SC Fondul Proprietatea SA in 15 Calea Victoriei, entrance E, 2nd floor, sector 3, Bucharest is no longer justified, as the rental contract expired, as well as the fact that, it is more organizationally efficient for the relation with shareholders, public institutions, our collaborators, as well as with any other third party to be managed from a single point (e.g.

Ethnic residential segregation in three cities of Northwest Romania1 Patrik TÁTRAI2 Abstract While ethnic residential segregation research is still current in Western Europe and in North America, there are only few studies about urban ethnic patt erns of the former state socialist countries. This article is an att empt to contribute with an analysis of three cities (Oradea, Satu Mare, Baia Mare) in Northwest Romania. As no census data are available below the sett lement level, there were used the results of the Hungarian ethnic party achieved at Romanian parliamentary elections. Based on this method the spatial posi- tion of the Hungarian inhabitants could be drawn, while fi eld work helped to map the distribution of the Roma population. The result is a ‘quasi-segregated’ situation: there exist parts of the cities, where the otherwise minority ethnic group Hungarians live as local majority, but their distribution is rather uniform. The residential segregation of Roma is spectacular, but due to the lack of data it cannot be quantifi ed. In East Central Europe the still existing ethnic diversity creates an opportunity to study the ethnic issues from diff erent perspectives: from national/regional level down to local/sett lement level. Until presenty most of this research related to ethnic geography focused on the regional level, independently of the size of the territorial unit. The case of northwestern Transylvania1 Mircea Brie Abstract. The ethnic structure of this region has been heavily influenced by the evolution of the various historico-geographical factors and policies. Most of this structure, however, is linked to the evolution of the denominational structure. Ethnicity in this case is closely related to religion. The political reality, the events with political overtones that occurred during these centurieshad a direct influence regarding the conduct of processes and phenomena related to the ethno- confessional evolution of the area subject to our research. In this period the region is part of the Austrian state (before 1867), Austro-Hungarian Empire (1867 to 1918), Hungary (1940-1944) and Romania (1918-1940, 1944 - present).
