  • School Estates Management
EAST AYRSHIRE COUNCIL CABINET – 8 MARCH 2017 SCHOOL ESTATE MANAGEMENT PLAN 2015-16 Report by Depute Chief Executive (Safer Communities) PURPOSE OF REPORT 1 The purpose of this report is to outline the 2015-16 School Estate Management Plan and seek Cabinet approval for its submission to the Scottish Government. BACKGROUND 2 Local authorities are required to submit an annual School Estate Management Plan (SEMP) to the Scottish Government, which details the status of the existing school estate, the vision for the estate, the required capital investment to meet this vision and timescales within which this vision would be achieved. 3 Cabinet will note that the Scottish Government has specifically requested this information for primary, secondary and special schools only and that the investment requirement excludes all Early Years and Community Learning establishments, although these are referred to in the documents where it links to school accommodation. SCHOOL ESTATE MANAGEMENT PLAN 2015-16 4 The School Estate Management Plan is attached to this report. In summary the document: restates the Council’s vision for the school estate and the policy context; provides an update on the current status of the school estate; identifies current investment and progress made; and sets out the principles for the Council to achieve its desired standards 5 The School Estate Management Plan reflects a significant investment through the capital programme on improving the school estate and demonstrates the recent successful completion of a number of projects and the ambitious next phase of an extensive building programme for our schools. SCHOOL CAPACITIES 6 The School Estate Management Plan indicates, as at 2015-2016, that there is still a significant surplus capacity in schools.

  • December 2018
December 2018 UPDATE View a full colour version on our website: www.dyceacademy.aberdeen.sch.uk WELCOME As we head towards the Christmas holidays we try to strike a balance between keeping the focus on the work of the school and acknowledging some of the more festive celebrations around this time of year. On the work front we are very aware of the need to prepare our senior pupils for estimate exams in January. Therefore pupils and staff know they will be working hard in class up to the end of the week. The estimate timetable has been issued to our seniors and a copy has been provided to parents via email. Young people should be planning their study alongside ensuring they rest and recharge the batteries. Our term will end with House assemblies which feature a reflection on the year so far and our hopes for the year to come: lots of pictures, music, performances and the presentation of awards to those who have contributed so much to the sponsored walk. We raised over £5 000 which is a superb effort in quite difficult times. Look out for the staff video on Youtube. Might be the staff that are ‘banned’ from ASDA – you’ll see what I mean when you view our efforts. I am always proud of the way our young people show kindness within our community. They have supported charity events such as Christmas Jumper Day to support Save the Children; they have gathered gifts for needy teenagers and supported the local foodbank by bringing in a wide range of items.

Bucksburn Academy School Newsletter March 2017 Bucksburn Academy Win 2017 Schools Biodiversity Award We recently found out that we have won the North East Scotland Schools Biodiversity Award. We were nominated for the breadth of work we have done with our students in this area, such as the number of people in the school community who have gained John Muir awards, joint environmental projects in the local area and further afield with a number of partners and the international projects on promoting sustainability we have been involved in. Ms Shanley and some students will be attending the North East Scotland Biodiversity Partnership Conference to take part in the day and receive this award. Stavanger Visit In February a group of 16 students and 2 staff took part in a 4 day study visit to a partner school, St Olav’s in Stavanger, Norway. During a packed programme they were able to find out more about how Science is delivered at the school, approaches to enabling people in Norway to live a more sustainable lifestyle and to continue to share Scottish and Norwegian culture and lifestyles. This visit followed a similar visit earlier in the session where we welcomed the group from St Olav’s to Bucksburn Academy. P7 Transition Visit On 28 February we were delighted to welcome all the P7 students from our ASG Primary Schools for their first transition day. During a very busy day the students were involved in activities to support the development of skills they will need for successful learning at Bucksburn Academy in S1.

It also provides copies of application forms, information for parents and contact details of nurseries in each Associated School Group (ASG). The Standards in Scotland’s Schools etc Act 2000 places a duty on local authorities to secure pre-school education for all eligible children from the school term following their third birthday. In addition they also have a duty to provide an additional year of free pre-school education for children with a birthday in January and February where parents request it. This policy was agreed by Full Council on 27 June 2007.
