COLLEGE OF ENVIRONMENTAL http://dept.arch.tamu.edu

WHAT IS ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN? The Environmental Design program is for students interested in the practice of architecture. The degree fosters creativity and prob- lem solving skills, provides extensive knowledge of architecture history and theory, and cultivates knowledge of the design process. Students who pursue a four year pre-professional Bachelor of Environmental Design degree enroll in studio courses through which they learn fundamental design concepts and exercise archi- tectural in order to create studio projects. Students use abstract and technical thinking skills to develop design proj- ects using hand drawings, graphics software and physical models. Oral communication skills assist students in presenting their design studio projects to faculty, peers and invited reviewers. The studio courses are complemented by coursework in technology, communication, history, theory, and practice. All students are required to spend one semester away from Texas A&M. This can be achieved by studying abroad, completing an internship or studying at another university. Students studying abroad can travel to one of our established centers in either Spain or Italy, taking 12 credit hours of location-specific studio and elec- tive courses. Those choosing an internship broaden their knowl- edge by working at an architectural firm. Students completing the Bachelors of Environmental Design degree who wish to become a licensed architect must complete the following: a Master of Architecture degree, the Intern Develop- ment Program (IDP), and the Architect Registration Examina- tion. Architects can design and renovate a wide variety of building types: office and apartment buildings, schools, churches, health care and sports facilities, hospitals, houses, airport terminals and college campuses. Architects not only design, but provide services such as project administration & management, evaluation & plan- COLLEGE OF ARCHITECTURE ning, bidding or negotiation, and construction administration. 3137 TAMU COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS 77843 Tel. 979.845.1144 For more information please contact Fax. 979.862.7119 The Environmental Design Academic Advisor T: (979) 845-2639 / E: [email protected] College of Architecture Environmental Design - Architectural Studies Catalog #135 (‘12-’13) With TCCNS
